Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

I guess that’s about the same as Wesker and he was stilclearly top tier so…we’ll seee.

In the one clip of clockwork playing strider with xf+oroboros, he was doing some sick nasty mixups with the orbs and the wall cling. The wall cling seriously looks ridiculously good now.

yeah Orbs fullscreen, wallcling, double overhead is a nasty mixup for sure. THAT’S what’s gonna make Strider so dangerous, not 30-second combo videos.

Jam Session assist is going to put a stop to random wall cling spam. There has to be more to Strider than that.

So keep that in mind, Strider players.

Not just a derpy sentence, but a derpy lie:

You specifically called her a rushdown character. You claimed health and damage was all that went into making one Zero a ‘better’ rushdown character than Strider. I countered by comparing another teleport rushdown character (Phoenix) with a substantially lower tiered rushdown character (Spiderman) with twice as much health who can get over 1 million 2k damage for 1 meter (no XF) and gave video evidence. Rather than actually providing and footage of Phoenix netting over 1mil, 3k for 1 meter (no XF) for some useful discussion you just bleated that it was untrue that Phoenix has less damage, and instead of providing evidence (which I would actually be interested in seeing) you just backed up your assertion with insults and antagonism. I’m still waiting, but all I’ve received is ball ache and juvenile nonsense so I guess I’ve successfully proven that teleport rushdown characters can better than some rushdown characters despite less health and 1 meter damage.

Appeal to authority. Remember when Marn said Viper was the best character in the game and Seth said Thor was really good? Good times!

Straw man. Show me where I said that Strider worked like he did in MVC2. From the start of this thread I have been countering this claim and even mention it in the first post. My point wasn’t that he should work like he did in MVC2, but that you shouldn’t sacrifice his level 3’s by pairing him with meter eating partners. You can’t have Orbs and Ragnarok as well as DT’s, level 1 and 2 Spiral Swords and level 4’s working simultaneously. You won’t be able to utilise each character to their fullest and therefore,** in theory, **it’s a better idea to pair with meter building character who don’t need much meter for their own damage. It was an interesting topic for discussion, but you’ve shat all over it.

people can also use Purification with Dormammu as an anti-Strider/OTG assist. it’s pretty underrated imo if only because of how slow it comes out. using wall cling properly is pretty much the same thing as using a character’s teleport properly-- don’t use it without protecting the point character with an assist. beams are recommended of course, that’s why I think Strider-Doom is still a great pairing.

You mind explaining then… The strongest gameplay of Strider and Zero is rushdown, spiderman’s strongest gameplay is rushdown but phoenix on the other hand has a strong gameplay at zoning and rushing. Stop trying to insert random rebuttals to save yourself from looking like a moron.

Please get over it. Spiderman does not dish out damage better than Phoenix, you can’t even answer the question i gave to you in order to see how illogical your argument on this was but you still want to poke around with this dumb ass argument of yours. Phoenix has the strongest rushdown game because she dishes out the most damage and she has the fast frames out everyone, making her a character that can destroy out teams in seconds. Why in the hell do you think everyone including the pros had such salt against the character? LOL at your video evidence, using Spiderman to do that much takes allot more skill compared to phoenix… Phoenix’s plain BnB in xfactor can take out any character instantly, and you asking for evidence shows that you are just forcing yourself to argue (or actually exposing the amount ignorance you have). How many WNF’s have you watched, it’s all over…

But since you are probably going to hold that against me here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8KS2wgzgZA

See the amount of HP Captain America lost after 6 basic hits… now use your brain, and just try to compare the amount of work of the first 6 hits in that Phoenix combo with that Spiderman video you showed me that involves 4 web throws. Nice fail.

In reality, i should even show you this video because every body including the scrubs in gamefaqs know how powerful Phoenix’s damage dealing is in comparison to everyone in the cast. The significance of this Phoenix/Spidey thing shows your argument concerning Zero and strider is invalid because you backed it up with an invalid point.

Ya, wow… Marn, that’s it? Regardless, Strider/Vergil isn’t only claimed by 1 pro even Clock said it works… we have a total of 3 Pro’s who actually experimented in Fightclub. I’m sure their word should have more value than some guy in a SRK forum who thinks spiderman dishes out more damage than Phoenix. Lastly, Thor is really good, the only people who think other wise are scrubs and noobs because they can’t adjust to a character with a high learning curve.

The underlined point makes it look that your whole gameplay concept is just like in MVC2, whether you don’t see it or not. You think that level 3 Oro is needed therefore making Strider a meter hog. I’m saying Strider isn’t a meter hog and nothing will effect the “meter hog” issue you’ve been yapping about. Because he doesn’t need it, it’s not MVC2 anymore where meter is needed for him. You really need to quit, you don’t even get your own babbling and that whole Spidey/Phoenix thing was already enough.

i feel like strider will still have 30 second combos regardless of his mixup game being improved. once we figure out wall cling with otg orb/using orb fire to wall bounce (if it does) to continue the combo across the screen and all that, any doubters will see.

and he can already relaunch without an otg assist.

@The Strider/Dante/Vergil discussion:

I could be wrong, but I was the first to call this team being good from the day Vergil’s trailer and gameplay were first released. Also was the first to name them. points to avatar

Points for discussion:
-Low health
-Meter use
-Assist/team synergy

  1. Low Health: People seem to forget that Magneto/Doom/Sent all have real pretty bad health except Doom (Who’s not thhaaatttt much better than Sentinel), and they’re a really good team. Secondly, Wolverine/Akuma/Phoenix is GDLK, and the only one with average health on that team is Wolverine. So obviously low health isn’t too big a problem for teams to do well.

  2. Meter use: What’s the big deal here? “BLEH BLEH STRIDER HAS TWO LEVEL 3s AND VERGIL HAS A LEVEL 4 BLEH BLEH!” Are we all forgetting that the one-man combo video is on this team? Dante builds like 2-3 meters with every combo. If your team has Dante, you’re probably never gonna have a problem acquiring meter. And if you do, just do longer combos.

  3. Assist/Team Synergy: There are better people to make arguments for Strider/Vergil working than me (Not to mention it’s been stated many times before), so I won’t even bother there. Secondly, consider the following strategy for Dante/Vergil teams (Which I believe was suggested by indig0, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong): Put Dante first, Vergil second, and then whatever character 3rd. In this case, it’s obviously Strider. Open the opponent up to a full combo with Dante, which will result in you having 3-4 meters once you end it. Then, when you get the chance, do Devil Trigger DHC Devil Trigger DHC Legion (Completely safe DHC). Now you have Strider sitting on at least one or two bars (If you waited longer before DHC’ing Dante out) with buffed assists, Dante’s right behind him regaining a ton of health, and Vergil’s now on anchor, which is where he’s strongest. By the time Dante and Strider die, Vergil will have 4-5 bars to play around with. Then, you just XF, activate Swords, run in, and blow them up. As for assists, I would use Strider’s teleport divekick (Forget the name), Dante’s Jam Session, and Vergil’s Judgment Cut or Rapid Slash (preferably Rapid Slash).

This team is obviously not gonna be braindead rushdown, which is what everyone seems to think it should be about. Strider/Dante/Vergil is going to about forcing 50/50s all day and forcing your opponent into mistakes. Anyone can guess right once or twice, but with this combination, you’re going to have the ability to make people guess about 10 times in a matter of seconds. Double overheads, teleport divekicks, AND Ouroboros with a lockdown assist like Jam Session? And then you have an anchor who is basically Wesker, but with halfscreen normals and a level 1 Ouroboros? Get real, this team is gonna be GDLK.

YO YOU WANNA SEE A REAL DHC?

Devil Trigger->Devil Trigger->Ouroboros!

like a boss (don’t actually do this, it’s a horrible idea, but definitely an epic one).

Only there isnt real discussion of pairing Strider with an assist. Everyones been dick riding “derp derp imma call an orb then wall cling!!”

I’d do that if I were dominating someone hard, and they were on their last character. Holy Hiryu, the salt levels would rise like Dark Phoenix.

I’ve just noticed that the announcer in the character select doesn’t even call Strider “Strider” he just calls him Hiryu. Who calls him that?

I know nothing about Strider or japanese but isnt the last name actually the first?

Strider is the name of the group of ninjas he belongs to: The Striders. Hiryu is actually his name. Whether it’s his first or last? Idk.

Hiryu McNeil of Strider Industries.

The biggest problem i see with Strider/Dante/Vergil is damage. Dante’s damage did get nurfed from what i recall in the Max vid. However i’ve seen videos of Strider doing a legion and then DHCing into Dante’s DT and Dante had some free stuff to do with it. It was flashy.

I agree with Marvin and Ya Ya bitch in concerns with the Oro strat. I really hope people do not use Strider with the strategy of saving meter for Orbs, that main strat needs to change because this is a new game.

Good stuff. I am sure that Strider/Dante/Vergil (or what ever order) will be one of the best teams in the game, because each of them can change in order and each of them have great assists for each other.

The meter issue that was beeing yapped about by Robo is not an issue at all, because everybody in this game can be meter hogs. Wolverine can be a meter hog if your strat is to rush the shit out of your opponent with Berseker rage; Akuma can be a meter hog because of his cheap ass X-factor… yet Wolvie/Akuma/Phoenix was a godlike team in the end. Magneto can be a meter hog because people generally do his level 3 after his loops, yet he works well as a point character for phoenix teams. It really depends on how you use them. If you are going to continue and be like some scrub where your strats are all fucked up that you have no idea how to use your meter for strider and vergil, then that is your problem. If your only strat for Strider is getting him in with Ouroborrus as if it is highly needed, then you are a trash of a Strider player.

Strider does not need a meter builder nor does he rely on his Orbs anymore. He can build meter fast on his own and he can open up characters simply with his unblockables and over heads. He has full screen control. Strider, Vergil, and Dante are fast in building meter.

Strider/Vergil is going to be one of the strongest duo’s in the game, there are no problems with it. Strider has a better chance at backing up his wallclimbs because Vergil’s running slash assist has invincibility frames (as said by Seth), it can help strider set up combos and also provide good mid screen lockdown. Dante’s jam assist will work great for Strider too because it can be used as an additional lockdown assist.

edit:

Pros of Strider/Vergil/Dante

  • Rearrangeable
  • Good assist synergy with each of the characters
  • Well rounded DHC potential
  • 3 Versatile characters with Teleports
  • Each of the 3 has a wide range of options.
  • Assists can be buffed up with DT on.
  • Orbs and DT is always great.
  • Each character can build their meter at an above average rate.

Cons

  • It will take allot of practice and experience to get this team down
  • Health

Few words yet exactly on point.
