Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

is it just me or does Strider seem like the type of character you have to center your team around? the dude bleeds like nobody else and I’m just not seeing the rape factor in this guy anymore for whatever reason. outside of his day 1 relaunch combo, just looking at his tools he doesn’t seem to be too strong in the combo department either-- leading me to think Strider’s like Wesker with glass bones. god I hope I’m wrong about this.

Gotta be patient man. You should know by now that we can’t judge a character based on day 1 video BnBs. We just now saw a full screen hit confirm OTG. That opens up a number of possibilities. If his health is still a problem, maybe Strider isn’t for you, off top.

I definitely agree that he will need a team built around him. However, only to back up his movement options.

health was never really an issue for me. I’m used to playing glass cannon characters-- I played Magneto/Zero/Akuma at one point and I killed characters faster than my opponent could kill mine. but yeah it’s probably just me being impatient or the fact that Dr. Strange quite possibly killed my hype for Strider with all the BS he can pull off. I also wanna find a good reason to use Ouroboros. don’t want it to be a 3S type of thing where several characters only had one -really- good SA while their other two were trash and “don’t use this, period”.

November 15 couldn’t come sooner, seriously.

I wish they gave Zero a new move that is also made as an assist (replacing his Y assist). It would be cool if he had that move in X4 where he pounds the ground and a bunch of fireballs come out in a 180o radius.

Zero/Strider/Dante is sounding great again to me.

Because you expect people to come up with combos for him with less than an hour of play?

I know better than to think something like that. I’m saying that I looked at his moveset and honestly the first thing that pops into my head is Wesker. Strider’s gonna be a bitch to deal with and fun to play as, don’t get me wrong, but I think most of his damage is going to come from basic B&B shit and resets using the teleport, not 30-second long combo videos a la Viper, Mags and Dante. again I’d love to be wrong. Strider’s a freaking ninja and it would be cool to take people out with style.

seriously. I play Viper/Magneto/Doom and I’m even gonna be picking up Zero for my alt team. I’d know a technical, high-execution character in this game if I know what that character does.

Strider has a staple OTG hitting fireball, his :l: excalibur allows for relaunch, full screen wall bounce off of :h: Gram and ame no murakamo groundbounces. Toss in assists and Strider combos are gonna be looooooooooooooooooong. Factor in resets and we could potentially have some serious technical wizardry. Seth and the gang did say they wanted to preserve his nature as a tricky character. I reckon shit will be mad stylish.

here’s hoping man. Strider/Strange is sounding more and more stylish as fuck.

That’s how it was in MVC2. You really needed a team to take care of him… I like the sound of Dante and a good horizontal assist like Task, Doom, Sent, Mags… it just seems like good assists to help keep pressure on the opponent.

On the topic of Assists: I was thinking of Haggar. I still think his assist will be strong regardless of it’s changes (no hard knockdown) because it may work like the old doom assist in MVC2 where you can teleport, drop assist and cross em up… Strider’s slide seems to have the hitbox to work with haggars assist if it hits.

One of the strats i use with Zero is after killing or snapping out the chracter of the opponent, i immediately go close to the corner where the next character comes out, i then drop haggar assist and Zero’s air dash teleport. I go through the blocking opponent, and with haggar now spinning at the opposite direction, i have a free opening. This cross up works 80% of the time for me. I know it works with Dante too because’ i’ve seen richard do it occasionally. I assume this may work with Strider.

At VMVC3, i always have Sent/Haggar at back. That’s how it was ever since my 3rd week of playing the game. Haggar just had some MVC2-Doom fundamentals to his assist that i was able to pick up fast. Allot of my past strategies involving Doom’s assist was able to pass on to Haggar’s assist in some manner, and allot easier too because Haggar is invincible, unlike Doom where you needed to have good timing in placing him when going against Psylocke’s and Cyclops assists.

So, it my not be appealing on paper (because haggar is ugly as fuck) but i assume that Strider/Haggar will be powerful, just like VMVC3 Dante/haggar. Haggar’s assist sets up mix ups, to unblockable set ups (X-23’s lvl 3 for example.) and may increase Strider’s power in upclose battles. Strider right now is actually a very fast hitter with great priority and moves that will cause ground/wall bounces, what more with such an unbeatable assist? Unless there is anything to show that Haggar’s invincibility was greatly decreased or remove, i think this maybe a great assist for Strider.

I’ve seen a lot of footage on people stuffing Lariat with crouching normals. Dunno how intact it truly is.

Shit, you can do that right now if you get your opponent a little scared to advance in. Lariat doesn’t hit crouching characters of below-average height I don’t /think/, and certainly not from some distances.

Ill probably play him 2nd, I don’t like the idea of playing low health characters on point since you can literally guess wrong once and lose said character. I like having someone who won’t die from a basic bnb into dhc on point. Plus with strider having 2 lvl 3’s I think it’ll be helpful if he comes in with at least 2 bars at the ready. Not entirely sure what my strider teams gonna be yet, but im pretty sure at the very least ill give him a whirl and see how he works. Definitely seems like he will require a certain level of skill to play what with him dieing from one wrong guess.

Meh, Haggar is going to be bottom tier in UMvC3. Not only have they nerfed his Lariat assist, they had given him numerous stupid nerfs on point. Unless they change things in the final built I don’t think it will possible to build a team with him in it.

Since several days have passed, I wanted to bring this up again. Does anyone know more about Hiryu’s Ame no Murakumo H assist? The character select screen, from what I’ve seen in videos, describes it as Tilt Up. I’ve seen the other two assists in action, but not this one. Can someone tell me more about it, or point to a video where this assist is used?

I think strider needs a good fast beam assist to increase the pressure and mix up potential. I’ve seen some videos, and it looks like doom’s beam is a good assist to distract the opponent as you get in through a teleport.

Strange and DEM BOLTS OF BALLSACK should also be considered. Especially since it’s two beams spaced out widely, something you can take further advantage of.

Strange sounds nice, but i heard his vitality is the same or even lower than strider’s.

Mags/Strider/Doom sounds like a nice team. Magneto got a great buff and he builds meter fast which can allow strider to come in with Orbs and fuck everything up. Then doom as an assist and comeback character.

Doom/Strider doesn’t sound too bad either considering Doom’s overall point game is better due to the buffs he got. faster plasma beam, hard knockdown j.S, etc.

That is an overrated assist, I seriously doubt people are going to use it very often when it’s super easily to avoid it and happy birthday Strange. Strange’s dominant assist will be Eye of Agamotto which locks up your opponent forever for you to do mixups.

Are there any good Zero/Strider vids yet, like from gamescon or NYC Fight club? I would love to see some good matches of Strider with Zero, Dante, Task or X-23.
