Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

:pray:I can not wait for this game. Every character seems to be bringing something new to the table and Strider seems like the child of Dante and Phoenix (cause we all know only Dante can “control” it8-)). People will complain about his combos while saying his low health isn’t a disadvantage because he’s so damn hard to hit. Let the fun begin!

Fullscreen hit confirm! That looks nice to punish Storm’s Hail Storm on reaction (or prediction). Strider is so nice.

According to Seth at EVO, Strider had 750k health.

Maybe that changed. I dunno. Probably not.

so it’s just 750k? that’s not too bad, I guess. I mean, I’d take fullscreen hit confirms over an extra 50k health any day. that’s what, the equivalent of two crouching shorts from wesker?

hello fellow Strider fans, I made this one day, (Working on the other ones currently) . It’s a bit sloppy because It was rushed but enjoy

Ironically i’m a pad player.

LOL it looks good bro. I bought the LE Blazblue fightstick for the artwork and to try out a pad. I use it for arcade games more than anything

To get some discussion going on, how are you guys planning on using Strider? Point, second, or anchor/assist?
I am planning on using him second. Main plan, Zero needs to kill the first character with the help of Strider and the other 3rd member’s assist. That would probably build around 2 meters so I can have Ouroboros ready.

You guys?

Gonna run him as anchor for now and just make the use of that durpy tracking vajira assist. Plus in the back with level 3 XF and Ouro I’m sure is going to kill some characters if it comes down to that. I’m sure Dr.Strange second assisting for Vergil should give Vergil the assists he needs with both of theirs to lock people down.

Man I really just want to see what clockwork does with this character!

If I were to play Strider, I would play him second, mainly because my team would be build around making Strider into dominant character. I need to see what his advanced combo potential is honestly. I would look for characters that have an assist that works well with his rush down and screen control and assists that can extend his combos some. I would want my point character to be a deadly battery – someone who’s very effective without having to use much meter. As well, I would like them to have an assist that fills at least one of the roles I mentioned. I think my point character would be between Wesker and Doom. Most likely it would end up being Wesker. I also like the looks of Strider’s cross up game. It looks pretty deadly. I would think that Strider would work really well with Drones, so I guess I would try Sentinel in the back.

So we have Wesker/Strider/Sentinel. My game plan would pretty much be based around building meater with Wesker, then bringing Strider in with orbs, two deadly assists and an X-factor. That should be enough to be an entire team if played with enough skill. I would be basically be treating Strider like a legit Phoenix. This is all thoery, however, as I won’t be playing Strider in my tourney team.

Anchor with Orbs + XFLV3 will probably mean a dead character, but I really don’t want him to get the Phoenix treatment. Depends on how good Orbs are, it could still be very dangerous by itself or with XF Level 1.

Basic plan then, Zero kill as much as he can with both assists (like Magnus in MSP), and for sure I will have 3 meters for Ouroboros for Strider. So maybe Strider can come in and clean up the mess with level 2 XF, or maybe have somebody like Wesker that doesn’t need meter to be effective and has a good assist weaken the rest of the characters as much as he can for level 3 XF with Orbs.

Can UMVC3 come out already? Only 2 and a half months

Without playing/testing him out, I’m not sure. If I’m very good with him, I’ll probably give him my Dante treatment and put him on point with two characters that help him out. If him and Dante have some good synergy, I’ll probably put Dante on point with Strider second so Dante can build meter and take out people. That would also give me the opportunity to DHC from Devil Trigger to Ourobouros if I have 4 bars. If I’m only a little good with him, I’ll probably give him my X-23 treatment (anchor). That way he gets the XF3 damage boost and I usually don’t care if my anchor has meter or not. If someone snaps him and kills him, they at LEAST have to deal with a pissed off Dante and XF2/3>:(

probably on point if Strange doesn’t eat up too much meter. I feel he would be really scary with XF2/XF3 ouroboros but I don’t wanna limit him to that. Strider seems like a really good point character and I wanna see if he can do some cool team combos with Strange and… hopefully Phoenix Wright. otherwise, I’ll just find a slot for him on my Viper team.

I actually agree with Maximilian that Ourobouros is fun and all but ultimately you might be better off saving the 3 meters for Ragnarok, which looks like a very powerful lvl 3 and a more reliable way to spend your meters. It will also probably be easy to DHC into like Wolverine’s Weapon X.

Sorry if this has come up already; I saw some peripherally related discussion, but nothing that seemed to directly answer it. Can someone tell me why Ame No Murakumo assist is described as “Tilt Up” on the select screen? Most match vids I’ve seen pick the Vajira assist, so I can’t see why this might be. Figured I’d ask, since I’ve been looking for potential anti-air assists to finish out my team and am wondering what Hiryu offers in this regard.

Is there any good vids of Zero/Strider/Dante or Strider/Dante/Task?

StriderDante/Task (or what ever order) sounds like a good team… Strider has a good horizontal and vertical assist for him to use.

Mostly point, unless i’ve decided on using Zero or X-23. I’m actually thinking of maining my first desired team which is Zero/Strider. I’m very decent with Zero, and he was my favorite in vanilla so why not? The main problem i have with this is assists. This factor gives me thoughts of using Task instead…

How do you guys think X-23/Strider/Zero will be? I know that it may seem bad on paper, but maybe it is possible?

Does this make orbs useless against Strange with meter? It’s not like Ragnarok won’t pretty much kill him though. I suppose just using your meter wisely is the right thing to do. ( isn’t it always? )

ATM the feeling I have is that one of Strider’s biggest issue will be his DHC options… I think the DHC in and out of Legion will be problematic. DHC into Legion is probably not that difficult with air hypers that send your opponent to the ground, but DHC out of Legion will be very limited. And I seriously doubt that Zero and Strider will DHC well together, then you can to consider that both are low health (and X23 is low health too) and I think you are a bit greedy wanting them in the same team.

Task/Strider/??? for me. There are still too many unknown characters at the moment to decide who my anchor from day 1 will be but if all else fails I can always stick with Spencer. Legion Arrows > Legion (Animals) > Bionic Manuevers (or Arm if I get two chars) would still work.
