Cincinnati OH, Dayton OH, and Northern Kentucky: I have the best Wesker!

Matt and anybody else who’s read Scott Pilgrim: fuck you for not telling me the 5th book was so depressing and left with a cliffhanger. You should have warned me so I could have waited until right before the release of the 6th book. Mostly because I get really attached to these characters and now I’m slightly depressed. :frowning:

Great series, though.

Scott Pilgrim?

So I noticed something interesting while practicing last night. I had input display turned on and I noticed something strange. When doing Ken’s target combo, the input would always come out as MP > HPHP, doubled up like that for some strange reason. I don’t know if that’s just general ham handedness on my part or if there is something legitimately up with my stick.

So, what does everyone else think, I’m guessing that it’s me and not the stick, so, anyone got a good tip on how to not have SSFIV think I’m throwing out more than I actually am.

Stop hitting the buttons multiple times and actually press them individually at the correct timing pertaining to the combo.

The marketing.

No, you.

It hurts, but they’re worth reading anyway. Your appreciation would be less genuine if you didn’t have to suffer through the anticipation like everyone else. Now you too can talk down to people that start from the movie.

Heh yeah I was thinking that I’m lucky enough to be able to get 5 volumes at once. Oh as for the game, I thought I recognized the art style from a video I saw a long time ago:

Turns out that guy is doing the art direction for the game too.

QFT.

SF4 isn’t bad, but it’s way to flawed to be getting ALL the attention. OG’s mainly just play it because it’s all anyone else wants to play.

I’m excited about KOF13, I was sad to see 12 die as fast as it did (in, like, a week, LOL). Hopefully the netcode is at least decent or the majority of people won’t put much time in it. Trying to learn NGBC since it came out on 360, missed it the first time around. Still learning the ins and outs of GCFS, LOL.

Jordyn - You know only you, me, and Slayer play ST or HDR in the 'Natti, LOL.

I REALLY want this!
God Almighty action figure

If people want to find out what games they’re interested in, why don’t people run dedicated random games on some of these Thursdays? Like maybe just 2 or so different games between all the tv’s. You can focus on those 2 games without distraction from other games, and you’d get to fight everybody in it. If that’s not your game, then fuck it. And they don’t ALWAYS have to be games played in tournaments RIGHT NOW. Derrick and I as kids played nearly any FG that came out, and many more random bullshit FG’s came out back then than now. But we gave nearly EVERYTHING a fair shot, and played most of those highly competitively with each other. Tons of those many random FG’s from the 16 bit or 32 bit era, even some of Capcom’s own didn’t get played for shit by the whole. It didn’t matter to us, the game was fun at the time, we played it, and tried to get everything out of it that we could. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff we played at “high level”, you would have thought some of those games couldn’t be played like we played them.

Also playing different games, helps you out in many ways. You get the “feel” of alot of FG’s, and you can much easier adjust to new games that play differently. It’s EXACTLY the reason Derrick can go from game to game that play differently and win, and/or place very high. I also have great results when games other than SFIV are played,(as you know, I put ZERO time into IV) even if I didn’t really play them. Don’t go writing off every single game because “OMG nobody plays this in tournaments” If you genuinely don’t like it, then that’s different. I know some people like Luke and Darius are probably on the same page; Derrick included, how many people have begged him to play SFIV when instead he rather played “shitty” Ultimate Mortal Kombat recently?

Personally I don’t care, as someone said, this renaissance that people are calling for will die quickly or not even start, because someone will start IV, and then when too many people are there, another IV, and so on and so forth until 5 tv’s are SFIV. If it takes off, I’m there, as long as a Japanese stick, 360 pad, or Dreamcast pad isn’t! If not, I have enough non-fighting games that I want and are coming out to last indefinitely, and I don’t plan to play a damn thing else for a looooong time once Test Drive Unlimited 2 is out anyway. I’m gonna have atleast 500 hours in that shit.

Edit:

Jesse, can I buy the LS-56 off you? I was checking lizardlick, but they dont have any octos right now. I’ll pay you for the parts and the inconvenience of you having to wait on another if you do.

Awhile ago there was a comprehensive list of fighting games that categorized the tourney scene of each game. Look, I like a lot of fighting games, I really do, but I don’t care to play them too often because its typically me and one other person. That gets stale fast, no matter what the game is, and its not like getting better at these random games is going to help you anywhere outside of a mystery tournament. When I go to AL and play SF4 I’m putting in work, period. This is not about fun, sure I have fun playing, but fun went out the window a long time ago when I started shelling out money to travel and play video games.

well then adam it seems you lost your way. look out everyone now that adam takes this serious i think hes gonna win evo this year

Well considering we have dedicated CVS2 and 3s/ST cabs, play in those games has been steadily increasing, I pretty much just played 3s this week, and I barely play that game usually.

I think we’re moving in the right direction as far as diversifying games that we play, even though I’m not serious about 3s at all its still hella fun to play with friends. The fighting game community is unique compared to a lot of others in that even though old games don’t get a ton of tourney play usually, they’re still there and have a pretty good following. Do people play old Halo’s and CoD’s at tournaments? I’m not an expert on it, but I’m pretty sure that you’d be hard pressed to find anything but the “newest thing” at those. You can’t expect everyone to just decide to pick up 3s competitively(for example) when there are other games with far more competition available. Some people may go the extra mile right away and boot up GGPO and start getting their ass handed to them for awhile, but shouldn’t we just be okay with people playing these games casually for now? As for me I never had the intention to play tourneys for 3s but I’ll still play it every thursday if its up. And who knows, maybe if I play it enough and get decent I might enter in it next time a tournament rolls around.

What’s with all the pessimism? There were only like 4-5 people playing ssf4 this week, everyone else was playing other stuff. We aren’t getting anywhere hating on sf4 as much as we have, take an optimistic viewpoint and be glad we have an arcade with dedicated machines to these old games you’ve been wanting everyone to play for so long.

Northgate mall SvC chaos tourney that was amazing. Just got back from the pokemon nationals and boy are my arms tired. Not from flying or jerking off a mr mime. The tourney was single elim. 80% of that game is luck haha.

Ha ha Keith, I don’t expect to win anything major, ever. In fact I don’t expect to win a tournament that has more than 20 entrants. But, I do want to better myself every time I play, and if that means sitting down for hours on end to figure things out so be it. I didn’t just start taking FG’s seriously all of a sudden, this happened when I first sat down with 3s, got utterly destroyed by Josiah, and realized there was more to the game than meets the eye. Once I got GGPO working I put many hours into working on my basics and managed to have a good showing despite only playing for a few months. Believe me, when I get back, we’ll spark up a Blaziken (if I’m employed at that point) sit back, and play whatever the hell you guys want to play.

I wanna play Twisted Metal 2 or Black. Me and my cousin played the HELL outta 2. We used to set up traps and everything. We both jumped online once on black and dominated the room. Damn I used to be GOOD in those games. I just feel like playing some good ol old school games.

AYYYE TM2 is that shit. I liked 3 & 4 too.

3 and 4? 989 Studio ruined that game man. I played 3 for a bit and the controls were HORRIBLE! Turn a corner fast and the car flips over. Turn left then right and straighten the car too fast, you shoot a freeze ball. I barely played 4 and that was enough for me. I’m glad Singletrac came back with Black. They take no responsibility whatsoever fir 3 or 4. They even said something like that during the making of Head On for PS2.

VERY confused by what you’re trying to say.

1.) Playing unpopular games with few people isn’t fun.
2.) SF4 is work. (work as in opposite of fun or what?)
3.) It’s not about fun, but it is fun. (So SF4 being work doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not fun?)
4.) Fun is no longer a concern because it costs money.

So if you could clarify for me:
1.) What precisely are you saying is the fun part?
2.) Why does cost change the aboutness of it? The reason I ask is because people throw money away all the time in the name of fun, even when it’s money they have no chance of winning back, so a lot of people will consider fun as a reasonable way to spend their money. Do you find that this is not so? I think you’ll agree that video games are not the best way to make money, and even within video games, fighting games are not the best ones to be playing if it’s about money.
