Add me on PSN. I’ll play you.
Stop posting paragraphs when it can be best summed up as this:
-People who actually are dedicated to fighting games will play what they specifically want and excel at it, even if that happens to be multiple games. Quite simply the more time you put in, the more you’ll get back in return. If you have a 9-5 holding you back, well sorry, not much you can do about that. However if you sit at home and have ample time to play, why aren’t you playing?
Casual players will always fall behind, and I know people try to defend their circumstances, but if you honestly don’t play 6+ hours a day, ESPECIALLY if you are new, then you will NEVER get better. End of story. As for people who like to dabble here and there, sure I play plenty of games, but I can only say I’ve ever taken 2 seriously up to this point, 3s and SF4. I’ve put ample time into them, and plan on putting more in. Baddies gonna bad.
Goose, You gotta hit me up when you’re gonna be in Louisville! I know a lot of SF heads there you probably don’t, and would like to see Doug/Matt/Mike etc
Goose man first of all when I first started playing fighting games I was learning 3 at a time being alpha 3 3rd strike and cvs2 while casually playing marvels 1 and 2 gg arcana heart and a few snk games. And that?s when I was knew to fighting games. Street fighter 4 has been out for over a year and no one wants to learn anything else. So I don?t think its that.
Ghaleon I know what you mean I still like the fighting game community a lot just not the super 4 community. And as long as you and fugee run sb ill be there. Ive only missed one year and that was the first one so as long as im in the scene ill be at all the local majors and whatnot.
Haha darius I know man you will play almost anything with us crazy multi fighting game assholes. that?s part of what makes you cool.
Nathan its good that you?re getting bored with super too. It just means you like fighting games just not super 4.
Jason nice post. I think that super 4 is one of the easiest fighting games to play and capcom def made it that way?not for us but for all the money they are making off of it. Everyone was so upset about kof 12s lack of modes to play in and whatnot. Ppl were calling it lazy and boring. But the system was awesome critical combos were cool as hell too. Me im upset with capcom cuz ya they have all the fancy modes and the good netcode but just look at how lazy their games are. Super 4 is just a plain fighting game on easy mode?boring. And marvel 3 looks like they are just copying so much shit from marvel 2 and tvc. Capcom doesn?t care about us one damn bit they only care about money. But hey they are a business too what do they care about us as long as they are making money.
Anyway ill be at the arcade this thurs and ill be willing to help anyone learn a new game or learn more about a game they already know a lil about. So don?t be afraid to come ask cuz im willing to help. I know at least a lil bit about a lot of fighting games out there so assume I know something about the game. If I don?t ill tell you right off the bat but ill still help you explore it. Just as long as I don?t have to play super 4 ill be happy.
Even tho I think its gonna be a shitty game I cant wait for mvc3 to come out cuz if it is good and its popular its gonna separate whos good at fighting games and whos good at just super 4. So id suggest to all those who just play super that you start learning other games cuz lets face it super 4 wont be played forever and what are you gonna do then. If you answered quit playin then I hate you. But if you?re interested in staying on id suggest learning tvc or mvc2 just to help smooth the transition to mvc3 but really any other fighting will work just not as well. And kof 13 is gonna be good so if anyone wants to play that start at kof 98 or kof 12 will be just as good if not better cuz it will be closer to kof 13 than 98.
Anyone wanna learn ngbc that game is the shit. The best snk game ever made and one of the best fgs ever made if you ask me.
I need my revenge against that punk ass Marco and that big head ass robot KEITH!!!
Wow this thread blew up.
Keith, I’m not sure I’m going to make it out tomorrow, but if you could show me some stuff in TvC some time, that would be great. Last time I played TvC, it was against Adam and you stepped in and kicked me off:( It’s cool though, I had to play Mac at GG anyway.
Also, I think Marco Wolves is the best SNK game out there, but I never really got into NGBC. I’m definitely down for playing that though. Also, KoF 11 is so much better than 12. Everyone in 12 only has like 3 moves:( but I never got to really play that against anyone because pretty much everyone just instantly hated it and never played it:( I’m down for 13 for sure though.
Darius. Marco Wolves. Also, if you want to play Pot in GG, we’ll have to set up a session some time. His offense is all about slide head and Pot Buster, so offensively it’s not all that taxing. Once you get that down, it’s all about learning defense, which will come as you play. Point being it shouldn’t be too hard to learn that character. Also, great health + great damage means you can afford a lot of mistakes.
Keith, if I’m ever at the arcade, just come find me and I will play whatever you want, as long as you’re willing to show me how. Only exception is if Mac is at the arcade too and he has nobody else to play GG with. That’s like all he wants to do, so I feel bad if he comes out there and nobody will play with him. Get at me on non-arcade days too if you want to try and get something together.
Adam, you can get better without putting 6+ hours a day into a game. Obviously the more time you put in, the better you will do, but you can show some improvement with as little as one hour of practice per day. There are also innate skills that come into play such as reaction time and coordination, and some people know how to optimize training time more than others. Some people can do more with 3 hours of training than others can with 6.
Also, there are certain games such as TvC, or Melty Blood where a little dabbling can get you a long way, so I don’t think there’s any harm in dabbling provided you enjoy playing the game.
Also, lot of people hating on SF4. I personally can’t do it. I haven’t really enjoyed playing it in a while, but I also suck at it, so maybe that’s why, but I’m not going to say it’s an easy game when I’m terrible at it (though I will say that about BlazBlue).
That Makoto BB character has a plain design. Tao 1.3 animal hybrid.
As far as the SSF4 community, most are just gettin into offline play for the first time so they don’t know what to expect at tourneys. Some of the players are cool some ragequit IRL at tourneys.
That is unacceptable for a grown man to give up like that. Have some kind of honor. I’ve never seen so many people quit mid match as I have playing SF4 online. On 2df once in a blue moon (good beer) did someone ragequit.
I swear SF4 has made a bunch of bitch made ppl. Oh and so has COD. The clown must have not had his daddy around. smh Brought a pussy to the tourney and it got fucked… by Buk.
I really do wish there were more games I could add to the lineup. I’m always excited to see people getting into a new (or old) game thats not SFIV. If people would get hip to NGBC, that would be great. I just played a little this week and I also think it’s a great game. One I will probably play a bunch once things get rolling at the new place. I think having the side tournaments as non-ranbat games will help me figure out if there is any other game that could really be worth adding to the ranbat lineup right now. I was thinking about arcade ST. Seeing as I’m getting that new candy cab soon, I could pick up another board and have two nice arcade setups. Who’d be down for ST at the ranbats? If not ST, what game could we add that would get people out to play each ranbat? I still haven’t officially posted it yet. i will wait til Friday. Give me some feedback tomorrow at the arcade or just post it up here.
@Matt - I did misunderstand and I do think it is an interesting idea. I’m not sure if that would help or hurt ranbat attendance. If we put it into a pot for one of the bigger tournaments, there’s a decent chance most of that money would go to someone who traveled to win that bonus money. I’m all for keeping it in the local community myself, but I’m not good enough at any game for my opinion to matter all that much. How does everyone feel about Matt’s idea to put the money into a later tournament as bonus money?
I agree (edit: With Riot Guard). BB Makoto, art design wise, bores the shit out of me, but there’s no footage of her in motion yet so whatever. Hopefully they have some fun with her speed though and she fights well. BB’s universe as a whole isn’t into being as crazy as Guilty Gear and the characters are a bit plainer because of it. Makoto was part of the story, she’s just another girl member of “the Library” next to Noel, and Tsubaki. Her personality was pretty much weak already so I guess that narrowed their options on her art design. So instead of making her design 100% boring, they pretty shamelessly went toward making her “sexy”.
Real talk I think an snk game should be played around here. They get very little love and the have pretty good variety of characters in them. And its not the normal bs everyone plays…
See you guys soon to play SSF4 only!
i’ve been playing alot of alpha 2 recently, so i’d be down to play that with someone at the arcade thursday if they wanna
I’m definitely playing some NGBC at the arcade. Mr. Big is just too damn awesome. Shermie is pretty cool too; throw rekkas ftw! I really need to hit up some KOF98 too, and find me some characters.
98 has Shermie.
Jesse, hopefully ranbats make us all better and we start winning our own tournaments. Also, even if the money does stay local, it’s only going to a select few people. I don’t know why I should feel better about Derrick taking my money than somebody from Chicago or someplace. Especially considering it cost that person a lot more to get to AL than it did for somebody local. I don’t think 2 bucks a ranbat (4 ranbats = 8$?) is too much on my part if it increases attendance significantly enough. To tell you the truth, I was already considering the possibility of voluntarily donating to a tournament pot before you wrote up your ranbat idea. So I think no matter how the ranbats shake out, please go ahead and set it up so we can donate to a tournament pot bonus.
New BB character. I wanted her for Marvel 3, but I guess it’s ok if she’s in BB instead.
I play them, very irregularly though.
In order to give the old games some lovin how about everyone meets twice a week instead of once that way everyone gets their SSF4 fix and breath life into the classics on the other day.Not to mention we have to put cash munnies into the end season ranbat pot right?I like 4 but I’ve still yet to learn angel from Kof2002 I wanna learn Melty Blood,I’ve been jonesing for jojo and I’m hard up for vampire savior.I also have to appeal to my love of school girls with Xai in T6 but every time super is going on somewhere I turn into a zombie and shuffle off there.
alpha 3 is better than alpha 2 if you ask me but i know a lot of ppl like 2. its not bad tho just not as good as 3 speakin of anyone wanna play some alpha 3 on the showcase tomorrow night
I would but I have work. And I owe you because you won our last game.
The main thing I hated about alpha 3 is the 2 button throws and the whole recovery system. That’s just me though. I’m down to play it though. Ha I still got the day one release PS1 copy. I’m a gaming pack rat.
