Chun-Li Combos and Glitches

My go to punish for damn near everything has become jabs > st.fierce.

Its part of my current strategy to land super at least once EVERY match…and its coming along slowly but surely. I pretty much have to win the first round while spending no meter against many characters/opponents.

Same.

I really enjoy being able to punish damn near anything. And once they know you can, it limits their options immensely.

I disagree with this strategy against Balrog. The problem i have with it is you have to charge which means he’s able to attack you with anything once he sees you move forward. And even if you do a super reversal its only 340 damage which isnt that much against a character with 1100, and then you’re left meterless.

Good point. It can be much more useful against some characters than others. In fact, now that you bring it up, I think that purposefully not using EX moves to save super against Balrog puts you at a disadvantage.

For instance, as seen in the LA riots videos, you took advantage of free EX legs after a blocked overhead smash. I’d much rather do that because, like you said, it leaves you with more options because of the meter left over.

And by all means, if you have an opportunity to do damage but it requires you use EX, use it. However, if you’re able to fight without using it, remember it’s uses.

Losing a knockdown tool and ex sbk also sucks.

Is there a way to do

H Hazan, lk, EX Legs, (EX SBK), Ultra

on pad? I managed to do

H Hazan, lk, lk, EX Legs, (EX SBK), Ultra

but I imagine that extra LK scales the damage somewhat. It deals 560 in the double LK version (including the SBK), not sure how much the single LK version deals.

EDIT: 524 without the EX SBK.

You can do hk hazanshu, ex legs, ultra for as little scaling as possible.

Ah, wasn’t aware that was possible. Sounds hard to link that on a pad though.

That link is difficult, whether you’re on a pad or stick doesn’t matter since it’s a timing issue rather than an input issue.
True 1f links are supposed to be difficult, none of that pLink bs!

the way i do that link is i double tap the lk button (im on stick btw) when the blade of the hazanshu fades away and it lands occasionally. Its the only link for me thats hit or miss with ex legs cause if it hits then i get a big combo but if it doesnt ex legs is blocked =/ but yeah, im pretty sure you can double tap on a pad cause it only requires one button =)

if you wana go for a tougher combo/link off the hazanshu try hazanshu > c.lp >s. fierce. tough link, but its meterless and does like 200 dmg or so =)

That combo is easier since it’s a 2f link instead of one.
The only difficulty is checking that you’re hitting close enough for c.lp to connect.

I got a beginner’s question for you.
What combos (one grounded one vs anti air) should I focus to practice that does not use Special Meter.

I’m playin Chun’s combos like this:

  • on ground I do c.lk,c.lk,c.lk, EX LL (that’s BnB if I’m not mistaken?)

  • as anti air punisher I do j.fp>fp, EX SBK

When I don’t have any special meter I do some pokes, shoot some kikoukens, counter air via js.fk, s.fk, throw …

Anyways I’m still amateur and had a long pause from sf4, so recommend me a combo to use up close that’s not hard to learn (for now)

Some easy block string would be nice too

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I got a regular gamepad

A good combo to learn is c.lp, c.lp, [c.lp] -> s. hp. It doesn’t cost meter, builds a decent bit, does respectable damage, but most importantly you can switch to a tick throw or other blockstring shenanigans if the low jab is blocked. You can do the same with c.lk [ex legs], but this one does not require meter plus you get more frame advantage from a jab.

P.S. Do you play on GFWL under the same name?

It’s Th30n 007

We played some matches last year

Landed a fun combo few days ago during training mode.

i like to do the df.RH when the opponent is knocked down for the mixup game. I managed to land df.RH > EX SBK > Ultra. Didn’t know before that df.RH could link into the SBK. Did quite good damage too.

To land it you have to start in a corner and then do the combo, that way the ultra will also connect. I don’t know the frame count and stuff off the combo. Wasn’t too har to pull off df.RH > SBK, just had to wait until Chun was on the ground and then it came quite ease.

Yeah if you get the df.RH nice and deep you can do either cr.FP or cr.MK before the EX SBK to add an extra hit and a bit more damage

ooh cr.MK? =) straight to super from there also I guess ^^

You would have thought so but as far as I know (well I can’t do it) its doesn’t work, I guess you can’t get enough charge… You might, MIGHT (haven’t tried it) be able to do cr.WP >> cr.MK >> Super off the df.RH

But I haven’t tried it so you’d have to give it a go!

So I tried this ^^^ and you can do it but I found it hard to get missed it a few times so I guess I’ll give this a miss in a match lol

Instead of spending meter on the c.shortx2 > ex legs combo (for 180 dmg), work on hitting her best BnB:

c.jab x 3 > st.fierce

Its a hard link to master but once you get it down, it does like 170 damage, positions her pretty well (doesn’t knock down), and does NOT cost meter, which allows you to save the meter for super. You really SHOULD try to obtain super once per match, and once you get her super…there is NO excuse not to land it, unless your opponent is really really skilled AND knows chun well.

Speaking of that, once you get super you can do:

c.jab x 3 > st.fierce > super

(which is sexy as hell btw, I only started landing that IN matches recently and oh my GOD it feels good).

As for a string, try:

c.jab x 2 > st.jab > st.strong

Its pretty safe and you can mixup after by either throwing a kikoken, backdashing, or whatever.

Basically the gist of what I’m saying is try not to spend meter for your BnB because its too costly for chun. Hit up training mode until you have that jab > fierce link down cold and that will open up a whole new set of options and benefits for you.
