Choosing your Main Character

Charge characters because I cant QCFx2

Just make sure you play a character (preferably all of them) before making your decision.

Trust me, these forum people that pick a character based on their costume or the 30 second youtube clip they saw 18 months before the game even dropped… they don’t win anything.

Play around with the cast, then your decision should happen pretty organically and be justified.

I tend to go with (who I perceive to be) the weirdest character of the bunch:

SF2 - Blanka
3S - Necro
SC3/4 - Random Creation
T5 - Jack-5
GGXX - Millia (eh, all the characters are weird)
BF - Face

But, if I’m playing very seriously, I pick higher-tier characters as needed.

i play around and eventually settle on whoever i like. as oddly as it seems, everyone i like seems to be mid to bottom :frowning:

st - hawk / fei long
cvs2 - sagat/rugal/yama c-groove
kofxi - griffon or maxima / ramon / gato
3s - necro / q
sf4 - gief / fuerte
t5 - dragunov

When a game first comes out with an all new cast, I choose based on appearance. Once I get comfortable with the system, I find the dude that rushes down the hardest. And than I rush that shit down.

Yeah, right…
You’re seriously deluding yourself if you think that top players have never chose characters based on their appearance.

MANY players in the Japan, America and even the UK have done this.

Why do people/players assume that the players that choose anything outside of the “Playing to Win” philosophy will never get good.
Totally ridiculous.

Chikyuu could destroy most of the players in the West and he chooses stupid characters.

Kuroda was the best 3S player ever and he used Q even though he was a shit character.
Then when he did decide to change to Gouki for SBO, he won.

It’s weird but I don’t do that. I’m good and I feel comfortable playing characters like leona, benimaru and goro but I don’t use them because I don’t like the characters that much or I don’t like their move set. then I’m struggling using iori and chris that aren’t that easy for me to use but I use them because I like the characters. I feel I tend to choose more the aggresive, offensive characters even though I’m not the best at controlling at but then I like to use yamasaki, kenosu, billy as well but I don’t use kim.

so I guess character design is all for me no matter how difficult can be to master a certain characters I will always choose who I like.

Vanessa here I go!

I choose by character design first.

I’ll play the three characters with the most appealing design to me and whichever I like playing with the most will be my main.

The only exception to this is any game based on established IP.

For example, I always play Sabretooth in X-Men Vs Street Fighter because he’s one of my favourite Marvel villains.

I gravitate towards toptiers but more importantly I always play “trickster” type characters because that’s the playstyle I feel most comfortable with for example st dictator, 3s akuma, and gg chip.

Sagat is my #1 main in any game whether he’s tops or not because I really like the high low guessing game you can play with his tigers.

The only time when design mattered to me was with Chizuru in KOF 98. It’s a good thing she’s awesome from a gameplay standpoint, too!

Whoever the goodest female in the game is, that’s who I pick. Not the best, the goodest. There’s a big difference there.

^^ Lol.

I usually Play all of them and choose which is easiest to use… Then I go to learning deeper into the So I can then Choose another character that will be more fun to use… And When I mean fun, I mean to Win more with… Lol.

EDIT: I also choose Who’s the Sexiest Female when I’m completely baffled on who to choose…

There’s a lot of truthiness in this post…

this is a personnel choice and reflects your character and preffs.

I use projectiles incorrectly and I perform poorly using short characters with limited zoning.
So I mostly play with large fat ass full screen charge characters (Vega being the skinny one but with insane reach)

I always selected the likes of Balrog, Honda, Blanka, Bison, Vega and Birdie in SF series to close in and reach my opponent.

that is me

I play Ganryu

this, i usually play with the char that i found more appealing in desing or/and gameplay, and i play to win :woot:

I usually tend to play females or characters who are fast, nimble, and the trickster type who can rush shit down.

MB: Ciel
GGAC: Order Sol / Millia (I don’t play her, but I love watching her in matches :lovin: )
3S: Ibuki
T5 DR: Lili

I really don’t know if this will make any sense, but I also find myself playing the characters who’s execution requirement isn’t high, but overall isn’t a braindead character.

Word.

which is the reason why i pretty RARELY use the top 3 in 3S and if I do, i chose another SA.

WINNAR!!!:party:party: I’ve ALWAYS felt this way. That why I **THRIVE **on humilate people who do this shit! :badboy:

People in CTF tier whore alot, ESPECIALLY in 3S. Cant say for the other games though…

Tier whoring in 3S is the reason why i dont like to watch people play when the top 3S characters are being used. Seeing Shippu Jinrai Kyaku or Genei jin for the 1,000,000,000th time sure gets…

Not when they lost a round to mid/low characters. Tier whoring doesnt seem fun then does it? :wgrin::lol:

uhhhh… Yeah…

Vids PLEASE!! I need to upgrade my Akuma and Q skills.

Personally I go for character design, story, bad-assness etc. After that I just doodle around with everybody where I can get a feel of how they play and from there is where i decide which characters are my mains. :wgrin:

I play for fun and choose who I want. I don’t play to win. I play to annoy, poke, laugh, and hopefully beat the other opponent. Its a lot more fun to be raped playing a char you love than to be beasted as a character who just happens to be top tier.

I mean I love interesting characters rather than easy characters. Gen, Fei-Long, Zangief, Rolento, R.Mika, and Oro all interested me a helluva lot more than most of the other characters because they had some unique and fun characteristics that appealed to me because of how diffrent they we’re (except for Mika, who I just love for her magic wrestling ring)

I agree. it gets boring. I mean back when I used to go to arcades, I always used to respect players who used different characters and who were more skilled than I, rather than the tier-whores, who didn’t like me a whole lot since I constantly beat them even though they we’re better players. People get thrown off thier game when you sing “Roxane” in the voice of Macho Man Randy Savage.

Usually I’ll pick the character who is closest to being the middle ground, or whomever plays like Ryu or Ken. After I get a feel for the game, it’s whomever catches my eye, design wise.
