Chester Bennington (Lead singer of Linkin Park) dead

Linkin Park came out during a turbulent time in my life, when I was dealing with a lot of problems, including getting out of a relationship that was unhealthy in hindsight and other stuff in college. So yeah their music resonated with me, and this loss hits as hard as Cornell’s did.

Listened to their first 2 albums a lot when they came out, even dug around and found some of the less known stuff at the time. I think I still have the extra PC stuff you could get with a preordered/ day 1 version of Meteora on my old desktop, was very cool for me. Saw them live a few years ago, pretty fun show. Lots of memories with their music.

As father of 6 myself I can’t imagine what his kids must be going through, or what he was going through to cause him to do that. Rest In Peace.

Man I was at work in a meeting when a friend of mine texts me out of the blue about it. It fucking sucks. I hadn’t been a fan for a while, but Living Things changed that. It brought back the sound that I liked them for (HT/RA/M). RIP

As someone who probably has clinical depression and hasn’t been to a doctor in like 8 years, there’s this really weird thing where it’s like, I know there’s something wrong with how i mentally handle some things and it sucks, but there’s also a fear of “if they put me on meds, what will it do to me, and who will I become?”. I mean yeah there’s some shit wrong, but what if fixing that one thing changes a bunch of other thing about how you think or act? Then there’s also the problem of how you have to not only go to a therapist, but then spend like 2 months breaking down an awkward wall of unfamiliarity before you can actually speak to them.

Basically I’m saying that there’s a lot of unknowns among the general public about (unless you really take the time to read up of course) how treating depression works, and if it actually works. When I was in high school I knew this one chick that cut herself a bunch. Then she went on meds and she just seemed kinda empty. Like she wasn’t really there. It always seems like it doesn’t actually make you happier. It’s almost like it just supresses the urge to eat a bullet and not much else.

Yeah… Exactly. My ex in high school was put on meds for his depression and he turned into this emotionless husk of what he used to be. It was so sad to see and it made me terrified to get on meds when I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I just kinda tried to find other outlets to keep me mentally afloat but, times get hard and I can go down to a dark place. But I don’t think I’d still want to get on meds and not be “Neesa” anymore.

I’m with you, this was what was written on the day of cornell’s death;

for me personally the birthday’s of my roommates that both died in the past year each really hit me hard

I liked New Divide. A lot. Still have it on my phone. I couldn’t get into their 1st few albums, regardless of Chester sounding good in them, the lyrics just wasnt for me. IMO, when a teen is going through some tough shit in his life (heartbreak, or whatever), that is when you start taking out the Tupac’s, the Wu-Tangs, the Red Man’s, Busta Rhymes’, Foo Fighters, Metallica’s, Smashing Pumpkins… that shit. Music from early day LP, My Chemical Romance, Boys to Men, Babyface, etc was something a sad angsty kid shouldn’t listen too.

Nevertheless, the Jay-Z mash ups is one of my favorite albums of all time. Meteora had some nice stuff on it too.

Shit sucks on a basic humanity level.
Reanimation, hybrid theory and meteora were really good, they were one of the diverse sounds along with my friend making Dnb music that inspired me to explore other realms/genres of music. unfortunately after their jay z mashup I fell outta favor with them. They sounded different and I just fell off the train. Went to other stuff…

I remember Chester saying something to the effect of how he hated how people brought up hybrid theory and meteora a lot. Fans were tied to the older music more. Those albums alone developed a cult following.

Not saying it was a significant factor but it might have led to some frustration. Feel bad for the family cause when someone pulls the plug on their own life and your close you can’t help but wonder what could you have done…

I wonder why robin williams, chester bennington, & chris cornell chode hanging

Also what i said was not judging their music. A lot of the songs they had were from a place of anger and had to do with really complicated shitty relationships. And he did talk about wounds not healing.

Wifey was dragging me to their concert.

The beats were neat. I just was never a fan of the vocals or the flow of shinoda.

I know this thread is focused on Chester but Shinoda also mentioned something about that in one of the Teens react video. He actually talks about the change and experimentation is part of what they do

the part in question is 6:19 of this vid

The vids got pretty meta cause you got the Teens reacting to LP, and then LP is reacting to the teens reacting to LP, and then you get the Teens reacting to LP reacting to the teens reacting to LP. It was interesting watching Shinoda take the critique.

This was unexpected, news caught me by surprise.

If anybody here believes in astrology or is curious about it, once I watched a tv show where an astrologer read Robin William’s natal chart, and it was shown there was like 7 water elements in his chart. The normal amount of water elements people tend to have is 4. Water represents emotions. This meant that Robin Williams was an EXTREMELY emotional person; it must have been very hard to live for so long with this condition. It’s likely Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington also had an abnormal amount of water elements in their natal charts. It’s something to check for newborns so you know to get them help early on in their lives.[/details]

You got a link to that, was this astrology shit done when he was still alive? I have been curious on Astrology

From Disturbed’s David Draiman

Makes you wonder what is wrong with the world, when a successful and married man still is forced to escape in such a way.

:frowning:

Damn.

GOAT vocalist and amazing artist, you will be missed chesterbe…

I’m digging out all of my LP albums and doing a marathon listening vigil over the weekend until I’ve played through all of the albums. RIP Chester Bennington.

He was the back up singer.

a mod has to be a linkin park fan from all these bans im seeing rofl

I wasn’t an angsty, but Hybrid Theory and Meteora will always be classics to me. RIP.

nvm i dont wanna get banned lol

Sad. R.I.P

Although not entirely surprising. Seems like all of Linkin Park’s BEST songs were angsty as hell, and seemed like they were written by somebody with depression or frustration with life.

I wouldn’t call it angry white boy music but, close.
