Because of close family scenarios similar and much worse to what happened with your ex, I fought basically my whole life to stay off meds. If I didnt have such an obsessive personality with the things I love, I think I’d be toast by now.
Huge loss to his family and friends, he was close with Chris so that is so heartbreaking to know he left the same way…I’m one of the biggest linkin park stans having been to shows and I’ve also met the band twice. This hits hard from every angle.
Knowing he left his kids behind is tough, knowing he was still dealing with issues is tough, knowing he felt this alone that this was the only way out is tough. Hate them or love them Chester voice captured that raw pain of dealing with all those demons and not being able to be strong enough to deal with it all. Or even have a voice
I lost a gf of 3 years to suicide back in 04 so all those times we listened to LP together I knew she struggled with depression from childhood abuse and with all my love and support I couldn’t reach her sometimes you never know how close a person is to taking their own life.
So even tho LP grew and changed their sound I’m still a fan and Chester will be missed.

people don’t make these decisions after carefully considering everything. they’re desperate, people who are desperate don’t tend to make great choices.
and on the topic of drugs etc. i have a friend who has been on a few things including anti-psychotics for most of his life.
but he goes off them regularly and tries different kinds, because he feels completely detached and barely functional.
that’s tough. you want to take meds to make life hopefully a bit easier to handle, but in doing so you make life kind of… lifeless.
With meds you want the right balance

Hybrid Theory was huge when it came out, still remember most of the songs. Too bad for the kids, it is often said suicide is a selfish choice.
Most celebrities live a life of stress, and often the ones with the most/best insight are also the most tortured.
Look at Robin Williams, the man is a comedic genius, almost everything the guy touches turns to gold.
Yet he battles with major depression and used some hard core drugs to try to cope with his life.

As a misfit in high school at the turn of the century this soundtrack was life.
I wonder where Linkin Park will go from here. Chester is like the soul of the band. Without him, their songs will at best be like The Raid soundtracks. They will never be able to find a replacement for his talent.
I imagine they’ll hang it up. Stone Temple Pilots probably will as well as this is number 2 in 2 years.

I’d imagine they would just do fort minor and include the rest of the band on some of the tracks. Maybe do some performances with a guest singer to tribute.
A lot of 90’s music had a depression and suicidal angst motif and its sad to see so many of these artists really play it out. This was the era I grew up with and I’d like to see some of the legacy acts age gracefully. Linkin Park is one of those bands that could have toured into their golden years, a definitive late 90’s and early 00’s band, and one of the few to combine rock, rap, and electronic music so well early on.
its interesting they are one of the only real survivors of the first gen numetal era. So many of their contemporaries didnt make it out of the 00s.
Dude common, their material from outside the 00s get hit so constantly with a wall of hate so intensifed it became an actual physical thing. Like Chester spent all his time defending his last album cause everybody were losing their shit over the fact it was a pop album. Then you got Hunting Party which was D tier AF.
