it took me about several months of practice, trying out different techniques in between to finally get the hang of it. but then again i also play two other characters so that slowed my progress down a lot. basically you just have to practice a technique till you become proficient at it
how does sliding stress your joints? You don’t need to apply that much pressure to japanese buttons and the entire motion is in your wrist.
I have 0 idea how you could get joint issues from sliding unless you were doing it wrong.
Cause its a sideways motion. And the buttons are not completely flat. If I press the first buttons during the slide and slide to the next, its a little it higher then the first buttons (before its pressed), so the motions goes a little it against the side of the buttons too. The Motion and so the pressure is 90° compared to the finger length, so the pressure goes directly into the joints, I dont think thats much healthy. The piano method is, I think, the way to go for me. Or perhaps not, cause I’m not improving wtih it.
the way you are describing the motion confuses me
when I slide I just arc my hand and my finger glides over the buttons.
There shouldn’t be enough pressure applied to cause any sort of pressure to anything but the skin. The only injury i could see potentially would be a friction injury.
Yeah Blanka’s ultras are some of the better ones to throw out for chip kills.
Reason I ask is because as soon as AE dropped I have never been able to land the crossup hop ultra. Comparatively, in Super I had hop ultra and crossup hop ultra down to 99% success rate. Even regular hop ultra now I can mess up a bit.
Its probably good that I don’t use it now considering his hop is so easily stuffed.
I’m gonna start using the slide technique for getting electric off jab, and use piano when I hit confirm c.lk or c.mk. Works best for me this way, because I can get c.lk/c.mk xx F elec pretty consistently but can never do jab elec fast enough.
In general… both techniques works fine… there’s really no better technique for one situation to another… it’s really about practice…
with piano… there’s better control in general… but if you’re playing 20+ matches in row it’s gonna take a toll on you a lot more compared to if you’re only doing electricity…
in general i feel you can cancel faster with slide as welll
the problem where slide comes in is there are chances where you don’t get the electricity you want… you might get MP instead of HP sometimes… or other times you might accidentally do a FA if your fingers are too close to the MK button… but these problems usually only happens in arcade when you’re playing at different cabinets with different button layouts… if you’re playing strictly from your own joystick… the chances of these error should be significantly less with practice…
also… last but not least… if you’re really into joysticks… certain buttons are better to slide than others…

I think this is the biggest benefit to slide, it makes osing so much easier when elec never comes out on whiff.
Getting c.lk xx FP elec or c.mk xx FP elec is not really that difficult for me, but getting jab elec is REALLY difficult using the piano method, but I can get it with slide. I don’t really think there is a disadvantage for using piano to do c.lk and c.mk xx FP elec and slide for everything else.
I want new buttons soon, my lk button is sticky. Beer may have gotten in there.
Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons for slide…? I want smooth, light buttons. Not ‘click’ buttons obviously.
I have a MvC2 TE. I’d like green ones to replace the banana yellow ones I have now.
For obvious Blanka reasons.
:edit: Nevermind, just got these http://tinyurl.com/ctysvcv €24euro delivered, sweet. :)****
whatever works for you man
but in general… if you can’t get jab to electricity but somehow get the others work… it means you’re probably doing cancel to electricity ‘slow’, usually it doesn’t really matter much but in some scenarios it’s possible to have karaoke not connect (on block mainly) because of the slow cancel.

Eh you can still be a fairly good Blanka without electricity strings. If you mash it, you still get an electricity that’s + on block, it just makes it harder to tell HOW + on block you are. If your defense, lameness, and link timing (cr. lk, cr. lk, cr. lk, U1) timing is down, you have a lot of the tools that it takes to play Blanka to his full potential.
Hey thx. Guess I was just a little frustrated. Cause elec is a basic common combi (in general) that every good blanka player uses and I just cant execute it. I had a good PN communication with a helpfull member. I will just keep practicing the piano method and will too, try other combinations (I always tried 12313, cause I saw a video of mike ross, explaining the pianoing and he uses this method, I think its not the best for me). Perhaps like 12333 or 12323 (but 13213 too feels very natural for me). I just have to try what works best.
Some people swap the jab and fierce buttons around, but that may be too much of a change for you.
‘slidey softly, electrocute monkey’ - old proverb.
fuck it, I just switched to sliding!
and I’m a player who switched jab with fierce…
my button layout is now:
LK HP MP LP
BACK HK MK LK
I slide LP xx Helec
LP MP HP MP HP
Melec
LP MP HP LK HP MP
Lelec
LP MP HP MP LP
EXelec
MASH
and cr.LK xx Helec (using the LK next to the HP)
LK HP MP LP MP HP
pretty easy…and i dont get that stupid EX elec anymore!
my fingers are simply not made for pianoing i guess…
AND
now it is pretty easy for me to kara-throw using my ringfinger for LP and my index for LK (next to HP)
I plink cr.LK with my pinky on LK and my index LP
the only downside is, that I dont have a 3xP button anymore, cuz i liked to B-link the ultra
mybe i get it done with my thumb on back and index midle ring on H M L
man, teching and plinking lk sounds like a dick, I could never move those buttons.
should have said that the kick buttons are a little more to the right than the punch buttons!
i drilled the holes myself…this layout wouldnt work on a normal madcatz stick…
it doesnt sound like that but it feels pretty comfortable!
PS: my doorhandles are just fine
Changing your button layout is pretty drastic IMO. It seems like more trouble than its worth.
i always played that way! from the beginning.
normal layout just didnt feel right for me
