Taku is interviewed.
He says the bad matchups, are worst fei, and also honda. yun yang is 6/4. Dhalsim and abel are not that bad. Balrog is bad, he says, but the unblockable makes it easier. Yes, he talks of the unblockable.
I wish he was asked about Makoto.
Thanks for posting that. I really need to figure out how to beat Abel and Mak.
I’ve figured out every other character to a good degree, but I lose to those characters more than I should I feel.
kinda curious… what is Makoto doing that’s giving you lots of problems?
-LAU
rushing down, axe kicks, pushing me to the corner, beating my footsie normals with st.strong. Also her dash is too fast to react to.
She seems harder to keep out than anyone else. Also I don’t like that I can’t do ambiguous jumpins on her.
Ves:
when i was in cali, I played there really really good makoto. We went about even, but most of the loses were me trying to test stuff and see what would work and not work.
Basically, makoto wins when u become afraid and start jumping. Yet she is very prone to jab electricity pressure, though I wonder what happens if she does her ex grab to counter jab elec. Also, she is super free on wakeup, just dont do wakeup electricities when she has ultra bc ultra wins.
There are a bunch of makoto vs blanka vid on ov3rheadgreg’s youtube page. Even choco blanka gets a win. Its just experience and playtime. I had to adjust to a very strong makoto, and it didnt take too long before I felt like i knew what to do. Jab elec in the end solves most problems. Love that damn move.
Oh, and in footsies, I found that standing jab just rocked. could mess with all her stuff, and kept her dash from being useful.
Ves: I dont see how she is harder to keep out than, for example, a smart yun or yang. Her buffs made her better, sure, but not super duper great.
My question is, are you talking about online matches, or offline?
Yeah I don’t jump, I’m not that dumb, though I know how to beat uppunch with jumps shhhhh.
at max range the ex grab will whiff, but if you are closer she’ll grab. Jab xx elec is solid on her. The things I don’t like is that I can’t do meaty cr.short cr.short hit confirm cause I’m in ex grab range, so I have to back off to meaty which means I get worse pressure and it’s easier for her to backdash out of trouble.
Jab is good, but it’s low damage. In max st.jab range mak can do tk axe kick and catch you. Even if you block you’re at massive frame disadvantage which allows her to start frame trap/karakusa stuff on you, which blows.
I think part of what I hate is how random Makoto is. I don’t like being in a situation where I have to repeatedly make guesses and have to worry about what option select is being done.
Yun can’t divekick in, he needs ex lunge. Yang gets in by playing footsies, his footsies are good vs. Blanka. She dashes faster, her jumping attacks have better hitboxes, etc. I’m comfortable with EX lunge and footsies. I’m not comfortable with random dashes into moves with armor that lead to too much damage, or random ex hayate when she has another one stocked and can punish my punish.
Both
Also crossup u2 is absolutely stupid.
Basically you are telling me that when u fight makoto u feel like u are fighting abel.
Except, its like abel with a dive kick (axe kick thingy).
I admit the ax kick kinda messes stuff up. I havent had enough matches to really figure out the right counter to it. I tried standing rh, and that was a bad idea. For the most part I think evasion helps, as makoto may lose patience and start to be stupid. Just stay outta the corner.
While the jab is low damage, I dont really care about the damage, rather I am trying to push her towards the corner and control my space. Once she is in the corner, a safe jab elec distance can be found, and she will take some good damage.
I thi the match will change pretty soon though, in 2012. Mak is nerfed, blanka is buffed. I dont think its gonna be that bad of a match.
I think Josh P advice is pretty accurate… I will just add in throw her more… especially when she’s knocked down she’s got pretty much nothing outside of ultra that can beat your throw.
-LAU
adding on:
she is kinda like a less optioned abel when she gets in… like abel i kinda find reversal ex rainbow an alright option…using it more as an attack or fake attack… but if you’re obviously trying to get away with ex rainbow you’re gonna get smacked.
wakeup tk axekick blows up throws.
And yeah the changes help this matchup a lot.
empty or whiff jump into throw mixed with your normal meaty jump in pretty much ensure she’ll never or rarely wake up axekick you.
-LAU
adding on: after forward throw… the roll->electricity (or reverse) into throw or mixup or continual electricity is a good option here
meaty jumpins that would lead to the same positioning as a meaty throw lose to wakeup ex karakusa, so I tend to shy away from them.
Makoto players don’t care, they just hit buttons.
I dunno… i just find it kinda easy to trian makoto especially after a knockdown… there’s are just some stuff that makoto is not likely to do if she sees a certain setup vs others…
-LAU
Thanks, Fei-Blanka : 8-2 ah ah what i said, this match up is RETARDED.
Love this Taku guy.
Makoto players don’t seem to think from what I can tell. They just seem to pick options. I have the same problem vs. Abel.
I guess i just need to play better Makoto players then… I just find Abel much harder in comparison…
-LAU
It’s a pretty similar matchup.
I’m gonna ask Strider for sets with both characters, I’m sick of losing.
Ves, are you playing online or offline? is it laggy? Im not an online player, but i find blanka online is generally stupid, at least our bad matches are.
Different topic: Taku said that low short into ultra is super necessary for blanka. Does anyone else think taku is fuking nuts?
I play both online and off, and I only play on good connections when I do play online. Playing on a bad connection with Blanka can be frustrating especially against characters with projectiles, and I have above average reaction time, so I know how bad it can be for someone who doesn’t.
I think low short combos are the evolution into how you become a Taku like player. Thats the next step into becoming an actual top Blanka player. It’s my current thing I’m working on harder than everything else. I’m not really worried about setups until 2012, but low short into ultra is really really important. It does a multitude of important things.
- Damage, Blanka is a low damage character. Full u1 combo from 3 cr.shorts does 400 damage
- Untechable Knockdown. Blanka’s combos don’t normally leave him with such great positioning, but u1 does, and it also gives Blanka the chance for any mixup he wants, and any positioning he wants.
- It opens up other parts of your game. People become determined to low block, which opens up overhead/kara throw. It makes you scary essentially.
