The weird thing about Viper’s trials is that they’re actually easier to do than the stuff you need in real matches.

Some of Ibukis trials can be a pain if you’re not used to doing SJC combos. It sucks if you do the whole sequence but it doesn’t combo so you have to watch the whole U2 animation. Juris trials are not that bad but they’re quite long so its easy to mess up the moves. Makotos trials aren’t that either but there’s one that’s really annoying because if you mess up the combo you have to wait for her super combo to wear off before you can do it again. Hakan and T.Hawk’s trials are retardedly easy.

i finish all supers and ultras with U/F so i naturally combo into ibuki’s and vipers ultras off normals when i try to do them.i purposely do that because i often just get srk’s with ryu if if just do qcf x2 and end at forward. What does viper have to do that’s harder than fff x exseizmo > ultra? lol i enjoyed hawks trial, it was inded very very easy. Makoto’s i did all except the last on my first go but thats because i often play her in endless, i’ve got a 90% success rate with her combo’s i dont know why her ffs is so damn easy.

I’d have to check but from my C to shining C run T.Hawk and Bison were tops for win rate for me, upper 80s percent-wise. Viper and Makoto were pretty damn abysmal, I really hated playing with those two. Most surprisingly fun characters were Dan, Dee Jay and Dudley.

i didn’t warm to dudley, i don’t know why, i think its because i can never do anything after ex mgb and you have to know a fair amount of his extensive combo arsenal to get the most out of him. i did enjoy mashing st.hp and stunning people in about 4 seconds.

FFF is actually quite easy once you get the hang of it, and the shortcut and priority system means you can pretty much just mash 3P and df,f,df after cancelling into TK.

Deejays regular go to bnbs actually do less damage than Blanka’s do.

Blanka has combos but they mostly involve hard links to get big damage, but so do deejay’s. Both have hard to combo into ultras, and good walk speeds, but I think the biggest difference is in anti airs and footsies.

Deejay has very few good footsie buttons. His far range stuff is slow(including his fireball), highly punishable on whiff and block, and the hitboxes aren’t even good. Blanka’s footsie buttons are so so much better in speed/hitbox that they aren’t really comparable.

When matched up against another fireball character the only way Deejay can really get ahead is by kneeshotting over fireballs and doing Ex Sobats. His slide is literally useless in a fireball war because the recovery is so bad you can generally hit him out of it from useful ranges. Every single character with a fireball has better buttons than him, so even once you get in you aren’t in great shape. Because you don’t have a 3 frame jab, or a fast low move, or something with high priority. You pretty much are incapable of controlling the flow of the match unless you have a significant life lead and the other character does not have a fireball.

When it comes to anti airs, deejay has a deadzone without charge. If you jump and try to hit him at about a 45 degree angle towards the front he is forced to block. lower he can far st.strong you, and higher up he can cl.strong you, but inbetween there is a range that just sucks for him.

Jumping at Blanka is widely considered to be stupid to compare.

Vega’s D is actually great, he’s just vulnerable when knocked down as most characters are. He’s one of the best characters in the game at not getting knocked down though.

His lack of a crossup is a non issue. He has a good overhead, and is able to izuna loop a good amount of characters, which is better than a crossup(though he actually can crossup fatter characters with j.hp).

Obviously neither Deejay, Claw, nor Blanka are great characters, but Deejay is actually poorly designed in a lot of ways, while Claw pretty much works perfectly, and Blanka has way less design issues and most are special move related.

I think you have to factor in matchups as well. Blanka and Claw have some very good matchups, and Deejay pretty much has 0, he’s so painfully average/bad at everything that he can’t even exploit character weaknesses.

Dee Jay does kinda suck at footsies. All I use are mk, hk, and lk sobat all at max distances. But he shouldn’t be played up close unless you are crossing up and mixing it up well. Maybe he is a zoner that isn’t the best at zoning which I guess is why you compared him to Guile. For some strange reason I am better with him than with Guile. I think because I don’t sit on downback as much. He can also build meter faster than Blanka so he can have EX jacknife to kill any jumpin. Dee Jay does have a 3 frame jab up close and far but crouching is 4 frames though.

Maybe Dee Jay is the worse, but I don’t think it’s by much. I do better with him than any other besides Honda or Blanka, but that’s because Honda has similar combos and moves not to mention power.

i’m working my way from left to right, row by row, so i’ve done 9 characters and am currently on Gen.

i’m looking forward to playing vega, i think he’s better than blanka actually, exwall dive is so buff and easily comboed (safe?) his normals are great, i dunno i think its gonna be easy to get to C with him. i think blankas footsies are good (AND ‘Pretty good’ footsies don’t cut it without dive kick /good specials imo) but vegas are better, dont have a clue about anti airs with vega though.

When i’m done i’ll post my win% by character, should be interesting to see

Gen is actually really fun, I use him in Endless now and then. And yeah I just stay in Mantis and do hands combos haha. st.mp, st.mp, st.hp xx hands is pretty good.

Ex wall dive isn’t safe if the other person knows how to punish it, the recovery once he hits the ground is huge, so a lot of characters can ultra him. His buttons are great, but he’s probably one of the most frustrating characters to play when you get knocked down against a character with a solid mixup game. Also yeah anti air sucks, get ready to air throw a lot.

yeah thats basically my point, he’s a zoning character with a bad fireball and bad normals, so you are pretty much forced to get inside eventually because he’s very easy to walk go the corner. I have whiff problems with cl.jab, why I don’t really use it haha.

yeah, I don’t think he’s horrible or anything, you can win matches with him, I just think from a fundamental design standpoint they messed up big time.

The best part about playing Blanka is the salt in the opponent’s face when they lose. Alt 3 Blanka makes that much more delicious.

There’s no such thing as a Blanka that’s too lame. If I hit someone with one crouch fierce and ex rainbow roll away the rest of the match, I would feel better than if I actually got the KO. Time-out victories with Blanka are quite delicious. Almost as delicious as cr. lk, cr. lk, Ultra frame trap.

so midscreen Ryu can trade hp dp with cr.short/st.jab and ultra you, that is stupid as hell.

I don’t mind jumpin -> trade -> ultra, but the fact that you could be doing elec strings and he could just mash that out is stupid.

Sabin was the one who praised Mizoteru. Wong just said he while he was in Japan Mizoteru kept following Daigo around in order to challenge him and he usually won. That was in one of Gootecks’ podcasts. I think it was this one. He said seeing that wanted to make him counter pick Daigo’s Ryu with Blanka in the EVO 2K9 finals lol.
