These guys put out a combo video featuring 2 of the combos I have on my channel, and the cr.hk, whiff jump attack, cr.lk, cr.hk setup that I came up with. Funnily they do the j.hk, st.mp, sweep combo on the same dummy I used in Boxer. I guess it was too hard to figure out who else it worked on?
Everything else is common stuff that has been known for at least a year, and it is nowhere near comprehensive.
So use old combos everyone knows, steal shit from me, and film it with a cellphone? This is why Blanka players are all ass, no originality. I literally have to spoonfeed this shit to people because no one brings anything to the table.
I’m trying not to be ass. I worked out how to do mp/mk, lp xx elec on my own, so I did. It works great and it doesn’t leave me with printless fingers or rsi. It’s so easy it actually feels ‘cheap’. I know it’s not an original or amazing combo but… I thought I would never be able to do it after I read ‘how’ I was supposed to do it. My dexterity/muscle memory usually bottoms out at tying shoelaces.
hah, that combo is just common knowledge or whatever. It makes sense in an intuitive way. I think I started doing it without anyone mentioning it to me. It feels good to do though, especially the st.mp version.
The combos that got xcopied from me don’t work normally, and the odds of someone working them out independently are very low especially when they show nothing else “innovative”. Kinda salty.
Well… I was getting a crossup j.mk on a Ryu earlier that stuffed his already active srk everytime, and when he dropped to the ground I was on the other side again to elec him. It was a cross-up to cross-under before he landed. I thought it was quite interesting. I see if I can find how to time it mechanically. It was off a backthrow, lp.ball, j.mk type setup.
btw yeah, the st.mp, st.lp xx elec feels nice alright. Easier than ending in ball. Excellent on Guile after a stuffed flashkick. The cr.mk version def is a bit tighter, less frame advantage. Both xx to super too, in the corner.
After f.throw, you can do a walk forward j.hp that will stuff Ryu’s reversal lp DP everytime. Reversal hp and EX DP will whiff, but mp will hit you cos of the invincibility frames. Also loses to delayed DPs.
I’m beginning to think the midscreen b.throw, dash setup is one of Blanka’s best tools. There are several possibilities, and they produce different results depending on the opponent and your own timing:
j.mk: always hits front/back, ambiguous or unblockable
j.hk: whiffs, always hits front, ambiguous or unblockable
j.hp: whiffs, always hits front or ambiguous
Ambiguous jump-ins are performed by changing your button press timing. Early hits at the back, late hits in front. If you do it too early/late it whiffs. Same with j.hp/hk, but it only works against larger characters. Against some chars j.mk will always cross-up regardless of your timing, but if you delay the jump/dash by a fraction you can make it hit in front. A few tall chars can’t be crossed up after a midscreen b.throw (Hawk and Seth, I think). In cases where one jumping attack always crosses up and another doesn’t, it’s basically as good as an ambiguous setup.
The hard part is compiling a list of that shows what works against which chars, and which reversals they can use to beat it. I’m gonna try to compile a list soon. I’m very lazy these days though so progress is expected to be slow lol.
I think he has great execution, some really good setups, especially after throws which beat invincible reversal with well spaced jumpins/hops and I think he has good spacing.
I think his biggest issue is that he wants to win in a flashy manner, so he takes huge risks. If he gets shut down round 1, he has a tendency to go a more reserved style and it’s obvious he’s not used to playing like that and it is basically over at that point, he doesn’t play from behind very well.
He’s a step behind guys like Taku, Nishikin, and Mizoteru in his prime because of this. He has trouble switching gears, and when he does he has a tendency to lose his composure. I’ve seen matches where his hops are getting uppercutted, and he just doesn’t care, keeps going for it, loses the round, and then in round 2 he’s just playing scared.
And what do you think about Shizuoka Saikyo ? And Chari and Aoki (two grandmasters in Vanilla arcade) if you know them, and who is your favorite Blanka in SFIV series ? For me, it’s Mizoteru, i never see a Blanka like him, Godsgarden 2 was so godlike, he have some great footsies, extremely patient and so smart ! If he don’t stopped to play Blanka, i’m sure he can do big things with him in AE, despite the nerfs.
Shizouka Saikyo, I don’t really know well enough, same with Aoki, I haven’t seen more than a handful of matches from them, so it’s hard to judge.
Chari was my second favorite Blanka to watch in the vanilla days. Very smart player.
I liked Mizoteru in Vanilla. He’s inspired me the most by far in terms of how creative and smart he is.
Currently I like Kim Legend because stylistically we are very similar. Nishikin is obviously a favorite, he’s the closest player to Mizoteru in style now IMO, very patient, very mistake free. Taku gives me a heart attack watching him, but he’s incredibly smart, resourceful, and his execution is realllllly good. Like those 3 currently, and I learn the most from watching them.
Saikyo is a really offensive player, he is very good in that : great mix ups, mind and a player very smart but in matchs up where Blanka need to play defensively, Saikyo is bad, he is like T SRAI but, an execution less impressive and a better intelligence.
COOP is a turtle Blanka also very good but in AE, he seems to have troubles, more than Vanilla.
And Utemasuka since Vanilla has make good progress, specially in footsies.
I’m remember a great grand master in AE with blue color, Black Mamba, but he has disappeared.

Look that, it’s hard to explain but Abel can break the DP with his cross up, Blanka can have setup like that with his cross up MK ? It’s not a real safe jump, just a “DP killer” i think.
