Charleston SC, Prepare Yourself!

ggs Rob.

Sorry for bailing, but need to leave in a hurry.

lol at that two FK into Ultra combo with Sagat. My jaw dropped.

Also lol at me teleporting into ultra with Dictator. Definitely need to work on those.

You have the best Sagat I’ve played online so far. So ggs, we’ll have to play again.

GGs right back at you. It worked out, cause right when you left people started blowing up my phone left and right.

>_> You straight beat my ass in :stuck_out_tongue: I haven’t played Josh yet, so I have absolutely no Abel experience, same with Rufus and I felt really lost in those match ups. It was definitely a great experience getting to get games in vs those characters, especially since you where straight up punishing every mistake I made.

You are the first person I successfully landed Fhk, fhk, ultra on so grats haha:lovin:

And the teleport thing, I was just hoping there was a vulnerable frame at the end of it and I was lucky there was  Stoked for that! teleport throw is so lame haha. Definitely kept me on my toes. Vs. dictator I guess I just need to be patient and play the footsie game, that seemed to be when I did best.

Definitely add Duffeyy (That’s his gamertag), he’s starting to get a really nice Boxer that’ll definitely be good practice, and I appreciate the kind words about my Sagat, but I’m way too humble to think I’m any good  If you noticed anything I was doing wrong or things I could improve on, I’d love to hear it. Criticism is always welcome!

I definitely look forward to playing the shit out of you in the future.

God you beat my ass so hard with Sagat last night Rob. Probably time to learn a new character to beat Sagat and the other matchups that I have problems with. Kinda surprised that I’m picking up Boxer, I wasn’t expecting it at all.

1.Footsies = yes… there are many setups just like EX3…
2. SF4=EX4 = YES… Come to my house, and I will show you a side by side demo like I did for Shawn… BTW just b/c it is EX4 doesn’t mean it is a bad thing, it just is what it is…

Also it just means we should have been playing EX3 like I told you all back in da day b/c it was DEEP, and very technical just like SF4…

So whats everyone doing today??

Ok then someone explain what the hell footsie is b’cause i got some wrong information:confused:

Hey, don’t you guys quit 3S on me now ! I never played you guys (or anyone that knew how to play for that matter) yet !

One more week then I get a car… one more week !

Another reason why PS3 is WAAAYY better than XBOX 360 CLICK BELOW TO SEE DA FUTURE…

Taken from the Street Fighter Anniversary Edition guide that MrWizard helped make:

Poking
Advanced gameplay involves several tactics to win. Most players will use a barrage of normal moves instead of just doing special moves. Using safe mid-range or long range attacks is known as “poking.” Many special moves take much longer to recover than normal moves. As such, they are more risky against experienced players who know the proper counter-attacks for them. Since poking is rather easy and safe to do, it is more common than a lot of other techniques.

Example: Vega’s long-range crouching LP enables him to continuously barrage any opponent with annoying pokes. This makes it very difficult for an opponent to get close to Vega or perform slower attacks, such as throwing projectiles.

Footsies
It’s difficult to mount an effective long-range zoning gameplan against characters who have a strong attack range. In such cases, it becomes necessary to play “footsies.” The term footsies is basically a subset of zoning that is focused primarily on close-range normals, where the most common goals are to knock the opponent down and set up cross-up opportunities.

Staying within close proximity reduces the advantages present in an opponent’s long-range normals. It creates a sense of anxiety and pressure for an opponent, who now risks damage to a much greater degree than facing your character at a great distance. Although such close proximity places your character in danger as well, it’s a strategic sacrifice that is necessary to maximize your character’s close-range arsenal. If an opponent attempts a slow, long-range attack to push you away and force you to block, attempt a cross-up to force the opponent into a difficult guessing game. If an opponent attempts a quick short-range attack instead, stay just outside of the attack’s range and use a crouching HK to counter attack when it whiffs, or fails to make contact. Knocking down an opponent in this way creates an advantage for the offensive player by allowing for a guaranteed cross-up or a tick-throw attempt.

Example:
Since Guile’s normals have a greater range than Ryu’s, it’s important for Ryu to stay close to Guile and play footsies. If Guile tries to push Ryu away with his crouching MK, Ryu should walk back to force it to whiff and punish it using his crouching HK sweep. If Guile tries to throw a Sonic Boom, Ryu can jump over it and go for a cross-up attack. If Guile becomes reluctant to attack, Ryu can simply inch forward and throw him. This entirely close-range guessing game is known as footsies.

Footsies isn’t confided to just sweeping. 3S Chun Li is a perfect example of a character that relies on superior footsies. She uses far s.hp and c.mk as methods of punishing attacks that she’s baited. The term footsies is in reference to the dancing back and forth outside of range.

On a Tekken note, poking is done close-range as well as mid.

Meh… Tetris kinda sucks to be honest. One of the themes is full of win though.

Rock on !

Honorable mention: Chocolate Rain - Gothic Metal Version

So, is anybody going to watch The Legend of Chun Li? It might be corny, but, I’m still gonna watch it

Do y’all think that Prima SF IV Official Guide is worth buying? I’d wait for it to be available in a torrent website before I’d buy it.

Paul: The game came out in the arcade. So if there was pad ports on it they wouldn’t be a way to set up your controller to have shoulder buttons. Its fine that u can use shoulder buttons in casuals but when u enter a tourney and the player finds out that u are doing it your in trouble. I look at it as if it was cheating. I’m playing stick and I have to hit all 3 buttons for my ultra but u can only hit one. It doesnt make any sense. If ppl want to bitch about it I would say thats your fault for playing pad.

Btw do u guys know what console to community is gonna be playing on. I know in Charleston we are gonna play PS3 cuz on stick players and it is better for pad players. But I’m talking about in the US.

I agree. If someone has to press 1 button to do something that requires 3 buttons for someone else, then, yeah that could be considered cheating.

But, where’d you quote “Redemption” at? I don’t see that post anywhere?!

Also, its kind of hard to understand what you just said. You said, “I know in Charleston we are gonna play PS3 cuz on stick players and it is better for pad players. But, I’m talking about in the US.”

It sounds like you’re trying to say, “I know that in Charleston, we are going to play on PS3 because we have stick players who own a PS3 and it is also better for pad players (possibly because the PS3 pad is better). But, what about the rest of the US?” Is that what you’re trying to say?

I’d think that the community as a whole would possibly play it on PS3 because 360 is more known for FPS games. And, shoryuken is definitely not about FPS games. That, and I cut and pasted this from shoryuken.com:

Q: What console will tournaments use?
A: More than likely the PS3 due to the ease of using PS2 sticks on them. It may be a good idea to be prepared for either, as the games should be identical. EVO is using PS3.

So, does that answer your question?

Any lag for ps2 sticks using converters to ps3?

What you just did to the english language was flat out wrong man.

depends on what kind of pad your stick is wired with and what converter your using.

Thomas/Thehurricane was quoting from tekkenzaibatsu i think…?.?.?

You mother fuckers are going to make me buy a fucking ps3 to be part of the ‘in’ crowd? For real? Like, unless I go buy a ps3 and a ps3 TE stick, I can’t play street fighter with you assholes :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I think the only person in charleston who bought a ps3 just for sf4 is josh :stuck_out_tongue: I just got the game (which runs better on 360 btw) for the system I had. So did Chris. Bah!

As for the pad advantage or whatever… I don’t really care about that. But here is pros and cons of both I guess.

Controller:
Easy access to ultras, other 3p or 3k moves, and ex moves.

Stick: Diagonals. Overall playability. Better execution. Um, just flat out better?

Controller con is sometimes getting ex moves when you wanted the ultra. Sometimes getting the ultra when you wanted the ex move. Bad diagonals. Overall shitty execution.

Wah wah go cry about the one button ultra with your 150 dollar stick.

I have a stick too, so… :stuck_out_tongue:

The fact that capcom made 3P and 3K defaults to the button layout on controllers gives me more than enough reason to believe it’s not cheap. I know if I played pad I would want one.

I can’t think of any other SF where 3 buttons were as necessary as this one, so it makes sense to make it easier for people on controllers to do it.

The rules have always been that you have to play by the default control layout, so I don’t see how using the 3P and 3K in the default layout is cheating.

Kinda sad that everyone else here is playing this on PS3 except a few of us, but I guess it doesn’t really matter… I got a HRAP for my Xbox and a custom for PS2, so I’ll just make sure to bring the custom whenever there’s something going on.

If it’s an arcade game (which it is), and they required you to use one button for a command, then you would’ve had to use one button.

3P & 3K are for casual gamers who aren’t going to shell out money on a stick. By having 3P & 3K, you have an unfair advantage in that you will NEVER make a mistake on input.

The entire debate is stupid. Use them in casuals all day, but no major tournaments will allow button macros. That’s just the facts. I wouldn’t sweat it though. If somebody want to set their pad all crazy, by all means do so. However, it’s going to be a severe handicap when a person can’t do it in tournaments. The choice belongs to them.

I also bought a PS3 for T5DR, a Blu Ray player, and the ability to play games with people that will actually play with me =P

I like my 360. I currently do have the buying power to get a PS3 like its no biggy. However, I already have AND am satisfied with a 360. Sure, others may like the PS3 better, but relative to me (which is all that really matters in my world) 360 is good enough. In fact, if I were ever to go buy a new system, I’d probably get a Wii for Tatsunoki vs. Capcom and Super Smash Brothers.

Has anybody played Halo Wars?? I’m guessing nobody has. But, thought I’d ask just in case. I almost bought it until I went on gamespot.com and they gave it a 6.5 or something like that.

And, Pistol Shrimp, I never said that you had to go out and get a PS3. Its the rest of shoryuken that said tournaments are probably going to be on PS3. That doesn’t mean to buy a PS3. I mean, since everything is identical, shouldn’t it be pretty easy to do all the same stuff on a different console? Wouldn’t it be cool if PS3 and 360 could play each other? That’s probably not going to happen though. PC vs. 360 is a possibility however.
