Why did SF4 not reach y’all’s expectations?
I haven’t even played it yet.

SF4 is greatness. I can definitely see myself playing this for a long, long time.
I think this is the first SF game to come out where the majority doesn’t hate the game right away or gripe about how it’s not like the other ones before it. Only things I hear are people complaining about how it’s not like some other game they like, which is a dumb complaint to make.
edit: What’s everyone’s take on the game so far? Besides those who have already said.
What time is the P&T tournament? Please God be after 4pm. Pretty please
Also how did everyone do at the tourneys today. I would have gone, but work and all that shit
That eBay price ain’t even right. I saw one earlier today going for $500. WITH BIDS?!?!?!?
I like the new SF4 it feels like a new beginning for Capcom with the mix of 2d-3d game play. I see this format being used for future fighting games… :wgrin:
Ex4 lives!!! Aka sf4
:karate:
i LOVE this game… i stopped playing SF around ex/alpha time… III - i hated because there werent any returning characters. and i hated the VS series cuz they didnt play like II at all… it didnt even feel like a capcom game to me…
IV is the perfect mix of traditional gameplay and combo-stringing/newstyle fighter action… all that super-air-juggle-24-hit-ultra-tag-in-double-team-special stuff is too much for me… i didnt have the time or quarters to blow on that learning curve
i thought i was done with fighters back in the late 90s… but im back.
SF4 is a lot of fun. I like everything about it so far except what feels to me like the lack of footsies. Could be just me though.
I got 3rd. They wheeled the damn demo station outside and my fingers were frozen. I lost to Bryan (guy that played CvS2 Vega cross-handed) in the winner’s finals and then some dude scrubbed me out with turtle run away Blanka (I couldn’t even do qcf on the pads T_T) in the losers finals. Ah well. I hyped the PnT tournament.
I talked to the guy in charge of the March 1st Gamestop tournament. He says they have to “discuss” allowing people to use their own controls. They all gave me a bogus story about not wanting people to complain if they lost to somebody on a joystick, citing it as an unfair advantage (?).
March 7th Play n’ Trade in West Ashley folks. Bring your own joysticks/controllers! I talked to Critty and he’s down for letting us play for a cash prize.
Gratz to Ryan, Chris, Kevin, and Anthony for advancing :D. I should’ve just picked Sagat >.<
Scene revival? We got Duffey and Derrick posting again. Even SVille Paul is posting Hopefully we get some more new blood in here!
sf EX 4: ultimate letdown
the amount of time it took to come out…and this is what is released?!?
I don’t know about the sf4 comparison to EX. First more than two people are playing it, plus it is actually a really good game. That doesn’t sound like any description I have ever hear about EX
lol, EX gets no love. Except from Paul.
I’ve been seeing some decent footsie work in SF4 so far, but it is definitely different. The game is a lot more defensive; with the threat of a random ultra, people are a lot more apprehensive about throwing out a random poke for footsies. People are just getting used to the different timings and are figuring out which normals are best for which situations etc. etc.
Who’s everyone playing so far? I’ve got my Abel down. C. Viper Hard Trials are complete but I haven’t tried playing her much in matches. Claw, Dictator, and Rufus are the only other ones I’ve been playing. Don’t know who to main in the long run, stuck between Abel and Rufus.
dhalsim and dictator are beast! Ryu and Sagat is as solid as ever. Ken still does dumb damage as usual. Ken’s forward med kick has a good deal of frame adv to mix up off of.
I dig SFIV a lot. There is definitely a large learning curve to the game. FADCs open up mixups and rushdown galore.
What is truly epic is watching me play in a tourney with a 360 controller…
I’m playing Gief, Balrog and Akuma. Ken and Ryu are always on point though.
As much as I don’t like SF4 I’d also would have to say that the comparison to EX is not very solid. I would say it’s a slower SSF2T with EX moves from SF3 with the addition of focus attack and super bar.
what you mean no footsie. I poke all day with Bison s.mk & s.fk so long as you don’t have an ultra. plus lk scissors kick is still safe and breaks super armor when done close so yea thats all day
SVille Paul: I’m playing Abel and Rufus too My Abel is much better than Rufus, but I think after I learn Rufus better I might dual main him. I also play Gouken and Sagat. I’ve spent most of my time on Abel though.
SF4 seems like it is very easy to run away and turtle up, but at the same time, it’s almost impossible to really keep somebody out (unless you’re Dhalsim. I hate you Ryan and Chris =P ) since a random lv1 Focus can eat a panic jab and CH someone in the mouth for damage.
Jon: Poking =/= footsies
Rob reporting in. Gamertag is RobHasHIV for anyone playing SF4 on the xbox. Playing a lot of Sagat, and loving it.
Currently working on comboing into my ultra, which is probably the biggest thing right now. Also, hit confirming into tiger uppercuts instead of always throwing the low tigershot in combos and after pokes.
Loving the game though. Might give El Fuerte a shot once I’m satisfied with Sagat. Sagat is entirely too much fun to play though.
I’m a total tool and sent xbox friend requests to everyone in this thread with a gamertag listed. Add up and play SF4 damn it!
