Welp, I’m done. I can’t bring myself to to play a character with ass walk speed and a fucking ground dash that needs to covered with an assist. Having to always cover yourself with a Soul Fist to move forward at all is simply ridiculous, especially since 5 durability won’t stop things like Deadpool’s now sub 10 frame start up guns.
Morri can currently block out of any of her air dashes other than straight back on the first first frame after inputing the dash. But as Max just demonstrated, her “ground” dash is an air dash.
The news about Morrigan unable to block during her “ground” dash certainly discouraging for us who main Morrigan. I’m gutted to think that this air dash nerf impacts Morrigan and some other low tier characters the most whilst upper/top tier characters are hardly affected due to their quick air dashes. I hope Morri got something significant to compensate for being unable to block during any dash. Looks like the only way to move around now is to super jump, then air dash.
I thought Morrigan’s walk speed was like 3rd fastest in MVC3? But with the large stages in MVC3/UMVC3 it seems insignificant, and since almost everyone else can wave dash and be able to block, seems grossly unfair to Morrigan and those who main her.
All walk speeds in MvC3 are ass. It doesn’t matter who’s the fastest, because paint dries faster than anyone walks. I See no real way to effectively work the opponent into a corner anymore, and double overheads may as well not exist. If you’re in their face you can still go for a dash L and nail them with what will probably be a <10 frame overhead, but you can kiss any non-point blank unblockable attempts goodbye. They’ll simply get her and the assist nailed. I honestly no longer see any viable place for her on a team. I guess Capcom was thinking with that 10% meter generation nerf that Dark Harmonizer and Soul Fist S would become more valuable, but with the fact she essentially can’t move against anyone with a projectile or assist of 5 durability or higher ready with using her own assist to cover her, she’s simply becoming too much of a liability for me to put up with anymore.
Yeah, I agree with you - And it’s a shame since you are such an excellent advocate for Morrigan in vanilla.
I would like to hear Capcom inform us Morrigan players how to actually win now that they pretty much killed her means of getting in safely or starting an offense. I know that Capcom don’t owe us anything (or maybe even care), but still . . . . If someone is in a position to ask Capcom this, please ask, it would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah… I knew I would be dropping Hsien-Ko for Nova after just three minutes of contemplation when he came out. I thought I could still make Morrigan work despite the mediocre buffs too. No way I can play her now after that airdash nerf and I’ve been calling it bad from the very first moment I saw it.
Maybe I’ll use Trish in her place or something…
Yeah, I knew it would take a while until people finally start getting how this will affect the low tiers. It will NOT be a pretty sight for those folks come November.
“Capcom: She has a few tricks up her sleeve that you haven’t tried yet! wink”
I think we should all just wait and see. If it ends up killing her despite her buffs, then that will be a shame. I was really hyped to pair her up with Strider too.
Has there ever been a character in a fighting game with a ground dash that is completely unsafe? That question popped into my head earlier this morning and I just want to know out of curiousity.
Seems like the only way to play Morrigan now will be go keep Astral Vision up almost constantly so you can cover the screen with fireballs, slowly work your way in, and super jump a lot.
We still have to see how much Astral Vision has been sped up. It will be useless if it is not near Sougenomu’s startup and recovery since she’ll get blasted by beams and everything else from the other side of the stage.
The Capcom changelog can’t come soon enough…
Spoiler
It is going to be horrible compared to Marvel’s awesome changelog.
Morrigan now has to ask and answer 3 questions to essentially be able to do anything:
1.) Does the opponent have a projectile with more than 5 durability? If yes, you cannot zone or approach from the ground. IF they’re Deadpool, you can’t zone from the air either. If no, you may rush the pure rushdown character (-_-)
2.) Does the opponent have an invincible or fast hyper that can punish you at your current range? If yes, go to question 3.
3.) Does the opponent have meter you use the above hyper? If yes, the only thing you can do is walk forward. Anything else will get her, and the assist you call to cover her killed.
The only way I’ll be giving Morrigan a chance at all in Ultimate is if Soul Fists have like 9-10 durability. And even then, she’s rendered pretty useless against things from question 2.
Exactly. It’s fast enough now to now eat Legion Arrows from full screen, but other than that we don’t know. It’s silly how one universal change can shit on everything that had me optimistically hype.
So just watched Max’s “assist me” and just found out about the Air dashing… FML. I don’t know if i’m going to be able to use her now. It sucks that her “ground Dash” is an air dash. Would be cool if capcom had given her a teleport with bats or something. I really wanted to stick with morrigan, but hearing this news i think i’m just going to have to move on which blows. Also is that Soul Fist Draining move Slow enough that some one can teleport to you and hit you? just curious.
Man this really sucks for morrigan, I was looking forward to using her more. I guess hidden missiles or something like it could maybe help her get in easier as you could wait until the missiles are in the air before leaving the ground and shadow servant on reaction to any beams or whatever else.
Comparing her to arthur, at least he has a double jump and better projectiles. He can probably even rush down better than her against zoners, not that you would need to.
I starting using Morrigan on my secondary team and i love her but… man… I’m trying to formulate exactly how I’m going to use her… she might just have to stay on the defensive and zone. But in the end most of the zoning cast can do it better then her anyways… i don’t see how Capcom can justify doing this to her.
She can get in safely using the bootleg tri-dash I was talking about earlier in the thread (at least in the current version of the game), but it’s honestly not worth the trouble. IMO, her current style of rushdown will be pretty much gone with the air dash nerf. I don’t think she’s completely dead though. I’m predicting that she’ll still have some tools left up her sleeve.
I honestly don’t see how Karst. She has no movement ability other than walking now. She loses zoning wars no contest - character like Deadpool and Doom just out durability her and out speed her. And they all have quick beam like hypers that will keep you from ever actually closing in if they have meter, even if you can an assist. So, she’s left where she can zone or rush down the rush down characters. But she’s not as good in your face as they are, and she won’t zone them as well as the dedicated zoners anymore. And her assists are still ass, outside of Dark Harmonizer. I just can’t see how her placement on a team can be reasonably justified anymore.
I mean, if she got heavily increased durability on her Soul Fists, and her walk speed is way, way up, then sure she’s playable. But if she’s still at 5 points, and still too slow to use an OTG assist as combo extension, she’s just done.
You can always flight cancel to block. I think Morrigan has one of the fastest flight cancels in the game. So using that would be a big part in her game, especially if you’re trying to rush. Yeah, she may be zoned out by other characters like Deadpool and Dormammu but with the right assists, she can still be a bitch to deal with. I’m thinking… Daggers of Denak would be a good assist for her since it homes and add Astral Vision fireball rape.
Or just change her dash to her old dash from MVC2. I personally like that dash than this one since it’s alot faster and she can do some crazy-mix ups. Her MVC3 dash is only good for games like CVS2 or some shit like that.
