Changes for Morrigan in UMvC3

Honestly, I think this is because she has the fastest high/low in the game. Especially if I’m correct about her ground dashes being cancelable at about frame 5.

That said, I’m hoping the knockdown from her forward throw lasts as long as her back throw now. It wasn’t something I got to try, and she really has some obnoxious ground throw range. It’s almost impossible to hit a grounded opponent with a raw 6H, because if they’re in range to be hit, they’re in throw range.

Ah, good to know! I almost never TAC in this game (I hate randomness), so that it was always like that escaped me. Plus I anchor Morrigan, so I don’t even get the chance to TAC on accident, haha.

I see them more than I care to from practicing flight combos. That said, I do use Morri’s from time to time after FS in the corner. I still have a 100% success rate on that shit.

Well, we’re boned.

Straight from Seth’s mouth

Um, I feel like I’m missing something in that image.

Also, I don’t care if I can’t block with Morrigan while dashing, really. I almost always jump, Soul Fist, Fly-cancel, and then dash while flying. If I need to block a hyper, I fly-cancel into a block, which will still work fine.

Oh yeah, post-Finishing Shower TACs are so good. No one ever sees it coming, haha.

Lol I was just about to post and ask if anybody else knew about this. Seems like I’m a little lateXD

I care more about Morrigan’s minimum air dash height and the minimum number of frames that must pass before she attacks after a ground dash. Any information on THAT would be amazing.

Edit: Particularly, I’m hoping that I can just do Soul Fist L, fly-cancel, air dash from the ground.

I wonder if you could do some fancy stuff with air XF? Didn’t get to try this at NYCC, but maybe after midscreen aircombo shadowblade missile super you can air XF -> dash forward and continue? Heck even midscreen missiles -> XF -> missiles or missiles -> XF -> level 3 would be nice.

You can already link Darkness Illusion off Finishing Shower as long as your close to a corner. I’ll be playing around with air X-factor, but for as fast as Finishing Shower pushes them away I don’t expect to do much after it midscreen.

Alright well its pretty much confirmed now that morrigan can’t block even with her ground dash if it wasn’t already:

Anybody think that Morrigan will be able to psuedo ground dash? Since she really doesn’t have an air dash height limit, would it be possible to sort of super jump and IAD downwards so she can block when she hits the ground and keep on repeating this to inch her towards her opponent? Just a thought.

Depends on how much they lowered the minimum height restriction for her downforward airdash really. I’m sure we’ll find ways around this universal airdash nerf though. She’ll definitely be more of a zoning character in UMVC3 however. What worries me is how long zoning will actually be viable…

Knowing her minimum air dash height and minimum attack height out of a ground dash are the only things I care about for Morrigan right now.

I don’t think this is quite as villainous for Morrigan as it seems, though. Personally, I always do something like jump, fireball, fly-cancel, and then approach behind the safety of that fireball, since I anchor her. The fireball means I won’t need to block against most things other than random hypers, and all I have to do is cancel flight into her blocking animation to be safe.

I think the change will primarily affect bad Morrigan players, personally. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the plight, though.

Sounds like some bootleg tridash lol. Really tedious and awkward, but I’ll give you tons of points for thinking outside the box.

Well, the whole point of flight cancels fireballs is to use them to control space and move around like you said Karsticles, which is what we should all have been doing. I’m not so worried about her losing her methods of approach in general as opposed to how her bad matchups such as Dante and Dorm may become worse.

The Dormammu matchup is hard to judge, because now Flame Carpet disappears whenever he gets hit, and that’s a large part of what made the matchup so terrible for Morrigan. Even if you got in on Dormammu, you just landed on Flame Carpet and had to start over, haha. With air dashes being risky now, we might end up keeping Morrigan grounded more against certain opponents, and then using Shadow Servant to counter any aerial approaches while keeping the ground busy with Soul Fist.

Won’t the matchup get harder if he has meter though, since Chaotic Flame may be able to punish a forward dash on reaction and keep her at the other side of the screen with Purification and Dark Spells? Since taking to the air is probably going to be more risky, I was just wondering what she can do to him while she’s on the ground. I guess Astral Vision based zoning on the ground could work…

Against Dormammu, I usually forgo zoning and hardcore rushdown him with Morrigan, doing my best to prevent him from getting and keeping Flame Carpet up. Since Flame Carpet no longer persists after he takes damage, I think we will probably want to just tridash rushdown him, though we might want to do something like Shadow Blade -> Fly Cancel, air dash attack instead of jumping, so that if Dormammu tries to Chaotic Flame we can cancel flight into a block to save ourselves. Purely theoryfighter, of course. In MvC3, even if you hit him you lost. Now you at least get to keep your combo

Sounds like it could work, but then again we’ll see. Flame Carpet nerf will definitely make things eaisier though. I usually try to avoid facing Dorm whatsoever with Morrigan if she’s on my team and let someone else like Dante handle the work since it’s easily her worst matchup in vanilla…

well actually, sorry prob a stupid question but I’m just going to ask anyway, is the air dash nerf really going to hurt morrigan? can’t she only block after air dash like at the end of the dash or if u let go of dashing after a certain amount of time and hold back in MVC3?
