Changes for Morrigan in UMvC3

So how do you Morrigan players feel about her in UMVC3? Is she any better and how is her damage?

I like her better, the priority buff of the Air H and S makes it alot easier to get in. The air dash nerf could be made up for if you play Morrigan alot more carefully.

She is way better than before. The lower height restriction for airdashes, faster Flight, and the ability to combo after all throws help a lot. She was hurt by some of the system changes, but she also benefits from them in some aspects (e.g. her assist is stronger now that meter gain is nerfed overall). Overall, I’m quite satisfied with her changes.

I feel like she is a much stronger character. Once you get used to her hop-dash, like Doom, the airdash system change hurts less. Her damage seems to be a bit better, especially since using soul fist in combos is much easier and you can mash Finishing Shower. Definitely better in this game.

Dunno if anyone found this out but she can combo off of both her vector drain throws (including the one in the air) with leads to some pretty cool reset options. For instance you could do bnb into air series and end with a fireball, wait a split second for them to recover, dash diagonal down to and air throw, upon her touching the ground you can do shadow servant which is almost unscaled damage I think. And if you’d like to you can dhc.

Yeah I posted something about this reset earlier, I never could really do it because my execution is meh. Glad to hear it works.

I’m really liking the new Morrigan. Soul fists with Astral Vision in XF3 does retarded damage. That, and her meter assist being very useful (thanks to the meter gain nerfs) makes her a much stronger anchor in this game.

Anyone else finding Astral vision> soul drain barrage to be more useful than initially expected? It’s hitting much more often than I expected, mostly because its so slow people forget about it and run into it once it’s a little off screen.

I just noticed that forward M combos into soul drain, not sure if this is very useful outside of the phoenix matchup though but it is an actual way to land it without hoping it randomly connects or without the help of an assist or something.

Jesus christ, as if you needed more reasons to love Storm + Morrigan.

If you DHC from Hail Storm to Astral Vision, you can combo 2 Soul Drains (so a total of 4 projectiles for 1.2 meters to you, 1.2 meters from them) during the duration of the Hail Storm. I do it just by calling Typhoon assist, Soul Drain, Fly, Move in, Soul Drain, etc. This is with only a few minutes in training mode. I’m sure there’s much more potential for this kind of stuff ahead.

I was also able to do something mean with Ammy. If you throw -> Veil of Mist -> Astral Vision, you can continue the combo combo with 4 Soul Drains (so 8 total projectiles, 2.4 meters from them) during it. The combo also does pretty good damage. The downside is you don’t get the meter you steal because it’s during Veil of Mist, though.

It also seems very possible with Sentinel as well. Hyper Sentinel Force -> Astral Vision -> soul drains + sentinel force assist. Can maybe get in 3 Soul Drains during all that.

So I’m going to keep putting time in on this because I think it’s hilarious. But I also think it could give us an option for running Morrigan in the second slot rather than the third. DHCing into Astral Vision and then using assists to chain together 3-5 Soul Drains (so 6-10 projectiles, 2-3 meters gained for you and lost from them) could be really really awesome.

Damn, Typhoon is what I was missing when I tried this. Hail Storm just has so many active frames I knew it could be abused with Soul Drain.

Has Veil always shut down meter building for the entire team? Shit seems like a bug, especially since you can use Harmonizer to gain meter during Devil Trigger/Sougenmu/Berserker Charge.

I think the most Morrigan-centric team right now is probably Storm/Morrigan/Doom. It’s a really solid team overall too, since you can use Hidden Missiles to combo into Double Typhoon after a flying screen without x-factor, allowing for Hail Storm->Elemental Rage set ups. The worst order it could be in would be reversed, and I still think it would do fine.

Unfortunately yes to my knowledge :frowning: Still there may be a place for eating 2.4 meters from someone else during a basic throw. That’s just the combo I could figure out with a few minutes in training mode. I bet with other assists/techniques you could push it up to more.

FYI, Morrigan can now get all the hits in Shadow Servant to connect after an air series. It’s not easy, but delay your air series, and once you land, do an empty trijump S as low as possible and you will land right in front of your opponent so it can connect. Mostly helpful for expanding her DHC options.

Also another fun find, if you’re using Morrigan on point and you’re running her with the Shadow Blade assist (so she Shadow Servants when you THC), you can use a long hitting THC like Dante’s Jackpot to get in multiple Soul Drains at the end of a combo.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, you can steal 1.2 meters with RR / Morrigan DHC.
For Morrigan’s point game, I like to run Wesker (gunshot) and Strider (vajra). Strider assist is so good for stopping opponents in their tracks whenever they try to chase Morrigan down, it also allows Morrigan to safely air dash towards them. I never really use Wesker assist for OTGs with Morrigan, only for the unblockable setups. You can set up easy unblocakbles on wake-up if they tech roll forward or backward after a hard knockdown or a throw.

Oh wow, I need to see if theres any way I can make this work with my team…

I was messing around with Morrigan against my friend the yesterday and I had her in Astral Vision the entire match practically, I was just chucking plasma doing tons of damage w/ chip and when he messed up and tried to move he got pegged and I gained that meter right back. Occasionally I would throw the meter absorbing projectile and get 60% meter back, it’s just nuts with flight canceling.

I honestly think doing meter-less combos with her (since the damage is not great) and saving it for astral is a solid idea, (unless it will kill)

Hey guys, I’m actually working on a Morrigan guide for players who want to level up their Morrigan, and I was wondering if I really need frame data and damage for it. I don’t have a brady guide, so I can’t get the frame data. I only have her normals and her specials done so far, but I’m wondering if I should post those and edit along the week or just finish up a final product. Thoughts anyone?

I think frame data is pretty important. If you’re looking to start a Morrigan thread, though, anything is better than nothing. Maybe someone would be so generous as to share her data with you. Feel free to steal formatting from me if you find it appealing.

Im not sure if I should be asking this here, but… Is there any combo in wich she does 600+ damage with no assist or HC?
The combo is easy to do [compared to her vanila advanced combos, I mean].
It includes a lot of Soul Fists and fly/ unfly, but its really worth the shot.
