Changes for Morrigan in UMvC3

No, not really. This might make sense if we were talking about a top class zoner from Vanilla MvC3, but she was mid-high at best there. She never proved herself in Vanilla and she needs to prove herself here.

So… did Morrigan get a downgrade or upgrade?

That sounds like it had more to do with the Akuma player not knowing how to handle the situation than it did with what you were doing with Morrigan, but I’m sure it was awesome nonetheless :).

Overreaction is inevitable with a new release, especially considering that there are probably a lot of new beginner players online (or seasoned players learning new characters), and styling on them is going to make people think the character is better than they really are. Once people get their feet under them a little bit, the landscape will level off, and we will see where everybody stands. Fwiw, I think things like AV and overheads with Morrigan are going to stay viable for the simple reason that she does not get played enough for people to learn how to deal with them; that doesn’t mean they are ‘really good,’ mind you, just seldom seen.

Morrigan’s air zone is actually really good now, especially since no tracking teleport character can act after an air projectile, and there just aren’t many who can cover the horizontal and diagonal at the same time in the air anyway.

90% of my soul drain hits come from pegging assist, just like at Evo.

Overall, she’s extremely different.
Not sure if this was already mentioned, but did anyone else notice how the shell kick part of her level 3 is gone now? As a result, you stay on the same side you did the level 3 on instead of switching places with the opponent. Also, her level 3 did like 450k IIRC, but now it does only 405.
That has always varied based on whether you perform the move in the air or not, and the attack has always done about 400k.

Oh, really? Sorry about that.

Overall she’s better than she used to be because she couldn’t really get much worse in Vanilla. Ideal spot to place her will most likely be second because that meter assist is going to make some near top tier teams with the meter gain nerfs. There’s characters that are better than her in XF3 any ways so having the shortest XF3 is not a big deal considering it forces your second character to come out without an assist to lockdown against advance guards.

First spot Morrigan is basically better overall due to general changes and how they reduced her air dash minimum so she has a real dash she can use on the ground now that moves her forward extremely quickly and sets up high/lows/OS command grab easily easily.

Oh yeah, does anyone notice the difference between frank’s meter assist and Morrigan’s? are they about the same or one meter assist is better than the other?

Morrigan’s is still the best one. Frank’s is more comparable to Ammy’s meter assist.

just me or her dash distance got reduced.

I don’t know if it’s reduced or not, but it certainly seems faster.

It’s not faster, and it’s not any shorter, since ti only goes as far as you hold the input anyway.

Her Astral Vision clone now gets X-Factor boosts. In the original release, the clone still had normal damage values and scaling during X-Factor.

Ah, that would probably be why her X-factor was dropped to 155% from 160% then. Good catch.

Ah! I thought the 15K Soul Fist damage buff was a bit much to let me do 700K from 6 linked Soul Fist Ls during Astral Vision. Hahaha! Honestly, I haven’t had the opportunity to play Morrigan much. Everyone is falling to Firebrand…

Good to know. Very good to know.

Edit: So as slow and seemingly pointless Soul Drain is, it has literally made Morrigan the anti-Phoenix. Scoring a killing shot with Soul Drain will prevent the Dark Phoenix transformation and will steal from Phoenix’s super bar. This doesn’t work if you chip her out with the projectile though - it has to actually land. Still, if Phoenix starts to become popular again, now there’s a surefire counter to her.

Frank’s meter assist is irrelevant in this game, everyone who uses him will use his shopping kart assist anyway.

Hawkeye is the anti-Phoenix.
