Changes for Morrigan in UMvC3

Oh, and it’s only a 55% damage bonus now, down 5% from vanilla. Losing the 50% minimum scaling for 35% as well really hurt her. Popped it on D.Phoenix first in training, then Morrigan, Morri times out first.

Also, it could all be in my head, but while every combo I’ve tried so far still works, none of them seem like they have the same timing at all.

Upside: Movement in flight mode appears to be faster. She has a stupid low minimum air dash height now, but only when she’s not in flight mode. Same minimum height to dash during flight as vanilla.

wut the fuck

She was looking good now that you can link meterfist in combos, but that XF3 bullshit is a buzzkill.

Did she keep her speed?

[S]I’ve only gotten Soul Drain after 6M, and as far as I can tell, it’s only because it causes stagger on regular hit now.[/S]

Also: the only Finishing Shower change to make it to retail was mashability as far as I can tell so far. Same shitty spread, same speed, still whiffs most of the hits unless you hit perfectly. Mashing brings it to reasonable damage, but it’s still ass.

First thing on the agenda is to find a good reset into air throw>Shadow Servant instead of spending the meter on FS. Oh, mashing it fully makes it pretty hard to connect a Shadow Blade after it in the corner.

So far though, her tools are better, damage is only slightly higher normally, and way down in XF. A full XF3 loop to FS that did 1.5m in vanilla does 1.05m now.

She seems to be every bit as fast as ever in XF, and since flight mode is faster to start with, she’s fucking FAST in XF. Just don’t expect to run through 3 characters with her anymore. (Or was I the only one who did that?)

MOTHERFUCK

they nerfed my anchor. fucking capcom bastards.

-dime

Oh, I should say this too, since i know a lot of people won’t figure it out - you can “pre-mash” hypers. Mash during that freeze, and shit is easy to get max hits on. If you wait until it’s active, you’re going to need turbo, if it’s even possible.

Truthfully, I think she’s quite a bit better, even though not much changed. She’s just not the fucking miniature Dark Phoenix no one knew about in XF3 anymore. Oh, that said, the hit stun increase on soul fist allows you to nail quite a bit more Soul fist Hs during AV if someone was dumb enough to jump into them. I think I got 5 off before the combo broke in XF3. It was against a Sent, so smaller characters may fall out, but that robot at least better never put his boot in your face.

I still need to test OTG assists, or possibly just wait until I get the damn guide tomorrow.

Last comment: regular Phoenix is still 50% bonus damage in XF3, and Dark Phoenix is still 100% bonus damage. I can’t fathom why Morri went down to 55% from 60%, unless it always was 55%, and everything was just wrong, I just realized I never confirmed that myself.

Morrigan got rediculous in this game. So fast in the air. She got mags flight speed from vanilla. All her aerials are easier to combo off of especially with jump S ~ > light. I expect her to be around high tier now. Shes godlike with Strider assist. Silly people thought she was gonna end up bottom tier.

To be fair, pretty much everybody can be godlike with that assist

Its perfect for her play style. She can outzone zone characters with that assist.

Unless I’m reading this wrong, she could always 100% anyone with fireballs in XF3 AV if the positioning was right.

This may be super old but I noticed a change that really just kills my custom BnB. I know they made it so Morrigan can’t do corner loops (Finishing>Shadow Blade>Finishing Shower again… ) But it seems the way they did this was by counting Supers as one of her 3 moves she can do in the air. Which sucks because I usually did launch>LMH>Shadow BladeM>light cancel>LMH>ShadowBladeM>Super. Not the best combo I’m sure, but one I could pull off with semi-consistency.

Also, I don’t know if its a change to air Shadow Blade or a change to air Finishing Shower, but it’s much harder to land an air S. after Finishing Shower now.
I’ve watched really good Morrigan player videos and the real crazy stuff seems to come from corner loops and air S OTG or TACs AFTER Finishing Shower (a trick I think only Morri could do). Forget my scrubby BnB being gone, this is huge I think, for Morrigan players.

I have never seen anyone juggled to death simply by fireballs in AV, XF3 or not. They were considerably negative on hit even in XF3 before, I suppose it might have been possible with flight cancels, but not something I’ve ever seen. Anyway, I meant just straight up QCF+H repeat several times.

That works fine (XF3) as long as the fireball hits the upper part of their hitbox, as the opponent will bounce upward slightly with each hit and will only drop out of the combo if they get bounced out of range or something. She could take O.Sentinel down from 100% by doing that. ~25 or so in a row, easy.

I am extremely unhappy about Finishing Shower and Darkness Illusion now counting against the air action limit. Fucking bullshit is what it is.

Edit: also, I take t back, the missiles from FS are faster, and do seem to hit a bit better, but not as much better as they did in the SDCC build. It’s still very possible to lose a considerable amount of hits.

lets see some videos

sigh I just checked this board to ask about these. I wasn’t sure if it had to do with me screwing up since I haven’t even touched vanilla in a long time or the game just doesn’t let me do it now. Very disappointed that it’s the latter. Oh well. We’ll find new stuff.

soul drain with xf3 and astral vision is pretty awesome–i managed to catch an akuma w ping pong and took him down from 3 bars to 3/4 of a bar.

Loving this new flight speed. Instant overheads are so sneaky and quick now, a lot harder to spot than vanilla Magneto (at least IMO).

Morrigan’s supers counting as specials is total bullshit, but at least you can do Shadow Blade / Finishing Shower / Darkness Illusion when in the corner. Timing is tight though. Also have to say Finishing Shower may have been improved, but it seemed to be much more hyped up than what I’m seeing. It might be better but doesn’t seem to be improved as greatly as I thought it would be.

After reading the New Testament, it’s pretty apparent they want Morrigan to be played as a zoner / projectile spammer using Astral Vision. They yarn on and on about how great it is, and how amazing Dark Harmonizer is.

Can I say that Morrigan is one of the best defensive/zoning characters in the UMvC3 with AV? like seriously. It’s good. And with the Strider’s Vajra, her pressure game is insane.
