God damn, how many times do I have to say this: flight canceling Soul Drain doesn’t make a goddamned difference in how slow it is, BECAUSE IT HAS 20 FUCKING YEARS OF START UP. The recovery on it is fine, that’s not the issue, the START UP is. Also, given how slow Astral Vision is, I really don’t see a DHC from Viewtiful Godhand giving you enough time to wait out Astral Vision’s recovery AND put out a ludicrously slow fireball. I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t even give you enough time to combo into one, which would be the better idea anyway. If you want to combo into Soul Drain, you’re going to need to do a short combo into Jam Session, and that’s the end of the combo.
If Soul Drain has been buffed all the way up to normal Soul Fist start up levels, there’s 100% no purpose to ever using Soul Fist L again, so I don’t see that happening.
see its posts like this that just have me scratching my head. morrigans meter assist is one of the best assists in the entire game. IF YOU HAVE A TEAM THAT NEEDS IT. really i cant stress that enough. putting her on a team of like mags/zero/morrigan would be completely FAIL for a number of reasons least of which is that both the characters in front of her gain stupid amounts of meter for nothing.
lets ask ourselves a few questions:
is there a character with a powerup super in the game? yes, there are many.
is there a character with a powerup super and a comboable lvl 3? yes.
is there a character with a powerup super and a lvl 3 and a good assist? yes.
is there a character with a powerup super and a lvl 3 and a good assist and crazy as shit in XF3? yes.
felicia.
oh and felicias assist also happens to hit low plus has ridiculous range setting up easy mode unblockables for morrigan and storm
I never said there was a problem I just gave my opinion on reasons I like morrigan as my point than 2nd or anchor, and I recall me constantly saying it depends on the team, I understand the morrigan assist for meter hungry teams, I agree with you though, but I’m just talking about in general, like some people are just using a team they like rather than a specific in general, but I was mainly pointing at my opinion of morrigan as my point and her as an anchor more than 2nd and left somethings out. so my bad on leaving that out. Dark harmonizer is a solid assist but I just don’t want to be left with that as my only assist, and my bad on the meter gain, 30%
Yeah 2nd spot Morrigan is sounding like where it’s gonna be at. Respect to the people grinding out point Morrigan but that assist is too good. If people figure out more technology with anchor Morrigan I could see that working but it might be a lot of work that only really technical high level players will really put together. I just don’t play in tournaments enough anymore to really try that.
Yeah, my reason for not putting Morrigan as anchor because I want some one who could secure a win when the match is not at my favor. If Air dashes weren’t nerf then I would’ve definitely used her as an anchor. So I play her as 2nd instead, She has flight and her j.H and j.S to provide a safe landing. If the game is in my favor and I have more HP with morrigan and my Anchor, then i just lame it out, forcing them to use X-factor to try and turn the game around for their favor. I already won at that point they burned out their X-factor earlier before I even activated mines, and if they still haven’t killed Morrigan with a full HP anchor, that only increases my chances of winning more. AND! they increased j.H and j.S priority making my turtling game even better! That’s why I love how japanese people thought up 5v5 strategy (in Kendo, of course) It works so well with Marvel vs capcom and they have mix-ups in their team strategies.
I’m not the god of doing combos but I can definitely do my bread n’butter. So to make up for the lack of being godly in doing combos, I make it up for Strategy. I’m so glad my cousin recommended me SRK forums. So many awesome tech to be found here!
A nicer compromise would’ve been a huge damage reduction and meter sucking nerf on soul drain. I don’t know about you, but I’d totally take a fast meterfist that gives me 10% meter gain for half damage of normal soulfist if I can use it in combos over a slow startup meterfist that is extremely hard to use in combos.
Isn’t Astral Vision getting faster, though? I would be so happy if it was a 100% safe DHC option. It seems to me as though Morrigan should offer lots of safe DHC options to make up for her hypers being bad. It works well for her meter assist, too.
Anyway, I have so much fun planned for my UMvC3 team…Firebrand will be so much stronger than Phoenix on point, and Dormammu had almost all of his bad matchups nerfed or fundamentally changed via his buffs. Salt will flow like the water…with salt in it.
I had thought so, but at this point I think Legion Arrow might hve had it’s projectile speed slowed down. Legion Arrow was the only full screen punish that works on Astral Vision in vanilla that did not work on it in the SDCC/Evo builds, and any footage I’ve seen of AV since then has been MEssatsu/Shinku Hadouken’d still.
As for safe DHCs, Finishing Shower is my go to. It doesn’t always combo properly, but it is safe. Been using it more and more just to clear the screen to move in too, and it’s really stepped shit up for me.
Yeah I use FS as a DHC to get her out too in vanilla, but the startup on it is pretty slow and the nice thing is that it’s the only hyper that got a buff… But i think an older changelog in eventhubs included that the trajectory control on FS is increased greatly.
Finishing Shower is only 2 frames start up as a DHC/THC though. It’s 18+2, those 18 are dropped from all DHC/THCs. It’s why Hail Storm is 1 frame. Sougenmu is 0 frames after the flash and 3 frames recovery, Devil Trigger is 4 post flash and 0 recovery. Astral Vision is 6 post flash and 13 recovery, Kitty’s Helper is 1 and 20, Berserker Charge is 9 and 0. Finshing Shower should actually beat Shinku Hadoken, but since some of the missiles will be outside of the beam’s line of fire, it won’t.
As far as covering a Stalking Flare with a DHC, X-23’s Weapon X Prime would be the best choice, but obviously doesn’t fit your team.
Finishing Shower is definitely good for safe DHCs in general. It’s just not good for my team. DHCing into Shadow Servant actually makes it go full-screen, so I use that to counter Shinkuu’s, but it’s not satisfying in particular.
There are some really good choices out there:
Ice Storm…beats everything.
Bionic Lancer
Dr. Strange’s projectile counter hyper
Sougenmu/Devil Trigger/Berserker Charge
Beams
Hyper Mystic Smash (tons of invulnerability post-cinematic)
But I need certain kinds of teammates, teammates that:
Can use excess meter.
Can essentially function against most teams without the backing of an assist.
Can make Stalking Flare safe for baiting and poor judgment.
Those are my top 3 priorities. Most of the characters on the above list fail 2). I think a case could be made for Zero, Dante, Storm, Dr. Strange, and Firebrand, but of those, I feel that Firebrand likes extra meter the most, and I also feel he’s among the strongest of those characters without an assist, like a Trish with good solo utility hypers.
I hope Firebrand works out for you, but I’m just not feeling him. His damage output from what we’ve seen is like, vanilla Morrigan bad so far. But I’m also salty I lose the ability to play Phoenix on point ever.
The part that has me concerned is that Seth said Firebrand’s damage out is pretty low. And given how much he tries to put a positive spin on everything, that’s kind of worrying.
We’ll see in a couple of weeks though. He does have a lot of multi hit shit to start combos off of though, which may be why his damage looks like ass.
He looks like he could be the first scary low damage character in the game the way he fights though (which is the way all low damage characters should be). I don’t know how people are going to land clean hits reliably on him with how fast he can move. Plus got power up mode like wolverine and if he comes in with meter has level 3 version of kitty helper that covers most of the aerial space. Gonna be fun to fight I’m sure. With meter stored up he could probably be the next XF Wolvie/Wesker in the back.
His normals don’t do a lot of damage, but his breath attack hyper looks like one of the best lvl 1 hypers in this game: mashable, does great damage and punishes easily. Damage shouldn’t be a major problem for Firebrand as long as he ends his combos with that hyper. That plus how good his other 2 hypers are is why Firebrand will probably be one of the biggest meter hogs in UMvC3, my feeling is that he’s very dangerous with meters to burn but a lot less without them.
I remember nothing but complains when he brought She Hulk from full health to death with 4 meters and X Factor…
ABC launcher ABC hyper does about 500K for Firebrand, so I’m not worried. Most people aren’t doing his full combos he can do in videos. Plus, Phoenix on point does pretty poor damage, so I’m used to it.
The Phoenix nerfs are just moronic. She needed some changes, but prone until she falls from any aerial fireball? That’s just ridiculous to expect her to go into Flight mode every time. She was definitely really strong, even on point, but the only thing that really made her ridiculous is XF3. Changing her XF3 boosts, removing XF’s ability to boost chip damage, and having her life drain while still in XF would have made her much more balanced without crippling normal Phoenix.
