TK Shot was broken and needed to be nerfed. Jean still has a number of other things going for her, so it’s not like she’s going to be shitty just because of that.
You might be right that TK Shot needed a nerf, but it does not follow thus that the nerf she got was the appropriate one: it was not.
It was appropriate for what Capcom wants to do with the character which is make her built around Dark Phoenix.
The infallible Capcom?
Basically…LOL. If they balanced her the way the the general consensus would have wanted Phoenix would be still strong but Dark Phoenix weaker. Instead they basically made sure Dark Phoenix is still retarded at the expense of regular Phoenix being effectively low tier. Now you have no excuse to not kill off Phoenix before the 5 bars but if you don’t you probably still die unless you can somehow snap in DP before XF3.
Phoenix was kinda like the new Sentinel as like the go to win tool but in Ultimate I see only the seelct few using her and it will be hard for them to still dominate tourneys with her. She’s going to be a character that works when she works but really won’t work when she doesn’t now.
Sorry to derail the topic a bit, but am I wrong in thinking that Rocket Raccoon’s Log Trap assist my actually help Morrigan move around? I really want Morrigan to work and I’m praying he’s able to help her out. D;
Anything that fills the screen with anything helps characters move about, really.
The SRK thread has a guy claiming Frank West has a meter building assist. -_-
With those Doom Buff’s my Morrigan/Dorm/Doom is gonna be nice and evil. Thinking of dropping Dorm though, for someone less meter intensive cause I tend to burn a lot of it with Morrigan clone missle fireball flight cancel bastardness. How does a Morrigan/Strider/Doom team sound?
This is more for the Dorm boards really, but we need more active conversation in here. My sparring partner has been using Dorm’s Liberation assist lately, since outside of block strings, Dark Hole just never seems to appear where you want it to as an assist, and since he starts Dorm on point, so it’s not terribly infeasible to build up the charges and tag out either via DHC or TAC, and he’s had quite a bit of success with it. Have you tried this at all? I’m thinking now that they’re active from the first frame, meteors could be used (sparringly, and only after bringing Morrigan in via DHC/TAC) to give her a bit of freedom of movement mostly safe from hypers.
The Dark Hole assist helps better as a mix-up tool for teleporters imo.
Using meteor to cover Morrigan’s mobility weakness is a pretty good idea, I was thinking of getting taskmaster’s parabolic arrows to help cover her air dash mid section and use her soul fist to cover the ground section of the screen.
Morrigan’s mobility around the screen isn’t as terrible as people make it out to be… I think it comes down to the knowing your match up because air dash nerf doesn’t only affect her… I don’t know how big the priority buff is on her j.H and j.S but it currenty loses out to Wolverine’s and Magneto’s poke (in Vanilla), but hopefully it’s good enough to beat a majority of the cast’s poke to make up for her lack of safe mobility. I’m not too worried about hypers if Morrigan is playing center due to the meter gain nerf, It would only work at my favor.
Honestly, from my experience, Dark Hole is god awful for teleport mix ups. It basically never appears where you need it to for that shit to work. Liberation may take prep, but at least it always does something you can count on, even if it is a pretty feeble GTFO assist without any Dark Spells.
Uhh… well… I don’t use Dormammu that much but anyways… has anyone seen the maximillian’s ultimate assist me on Nova? fast flight and 8 way air dash feat. a triad of powerful hypers. Looks like he’s gonna be one of Morrigan’s worst match-up. I’m thinking even turtling on him will be very hard.
I’m not big on the Liberation assist just because it means:
- Build charges.
- Safely tag Dormammu out.
- Get one use of Liberation.
- Return to 1).
It’s a ton of work for one effect. None of Dormammu’s assists are great though, so it’s not like you’re missing the world. There’s a combo video in the Dormammu thread showing She-Hulk using his Liberation assist - it might give you some ideas if you’re interested in it, but it’s just not for me. I tried it for a while, but if I was really doing well enough to get to 3), the match was almost over anyway. Plus, if you have charges build with Dormammu, you generally have a lot of control over the match, so I don’t find myself wanting to tag him out in that situation.
I would just stress being able to make use of 0D0C somehow, so the assist isn’t worthless if you have to tag Dormammu out without charges.
I normally use Dark Hole, and it’s a decent assist, but you have to learn to use it in very particular ways. Tick throws, making Sentinel and Hulk’s moves safe, mix-ups, relaunches, and extending blockstrings for free mix-ups are my usual uses.
I don’t like the idea with Morrigan starting out on point on a Strider team. The optimal thing to do would probably put Morrigan second or third while having Doom on point building bar for Strider while zoning and calling Dark Harmonizer and Vajira.
This just in: Frank West has a 30% meter gain assist. Jumps on the screen, takes a swig and then hops off. Unsure if is as “safe” as Morrigan’s or if it has the same 1 second timer, but there you go. So yeah, awesome, one of her main draws has just been invalidated by a newer, arguably better character. Guess it’ll just be the diehards repping Morrigan in UMvC3.
Does anyone have any new information at all that we might have missed out on? I’m still holding out some hope for her, but she’ll probably be a training mode character unless friends are over.
Her ideal position now is probably the second slot where she won’t be a complete waste.
Welcome to the world of the Darkstalkers post Vampire Savior.
What is capcom thinking -_- I’ll definitely be one of those diehards, I’ve been playing her alot against people and she’s been securing me pretty neat wins and her playstyle is subtle imo…
I’ll play/lay her even if she becomes Roll tier. Though I do plan on playing FW
Frank West is unworthy of partnering with Dormammu. Morrigan stays.
Frank West would have to be bullshit broken for me to bother learning another meter assist character. Been using Morrigan for 9 months, and I still drop or cannot even do a lot of her shit. She stays on any team I deem needs more meter than it can reliably generate.
