Cell phone thread. (Questions, reviews, issues with carriers, etc)

FYI: If you do happen to need speed, you can OC your G2 pretty easily.

My surround is supposed to show up in a few weeks. I got to play with one like two weeks ago at the windows 7 launch event and I really think MS is headed in the right direction with windows 7 mobile. It’s pretty fucking good and will keep people on both sides, android and iOS, on their game.

Definitely… there are some things that need to get fixed that I’m sure are on the way - copy & paste, multitasking, and little tweaks of the UI. It’s definitely really clean, feels fast, and a good start for Microsoft to build upon. I’m a little annoyed at how it won’t sync to my Outlook on my computer and just my corporate Outlook, but that’s a simple workaround - just need to sync Outlook with Windows Live. A little annoying but understandable since Microsoft has been pushing the cloud computing concept more recently.

Engadget has a very good app that I use regularly. For speech to text I use Vlingo, its good at voice recognition and allows you to text, email and search (including directions) the web. The google one is good too, but for some reason Vlingo seems to do it for me. Chomp SMS and Handcent are good replacements to the stock SMS app. Make sure you disable notifications in the stock app if you get a replacement to avoid double notifications.

If you want a home replacement, use either Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher. Both offer enhancements to the UI if you are not satisfied with the stock one. Launcher Pro Plus (paid version) offers widgets that are close to the Sense Widgets. Though I don’t have the paid version, I hear good things about it.

anyone use google voice for their voicemail? I can’t get mine to work at all

Windows 7 users how ya liking th phone?

I love it so far. I’m very happy with the upgrade.

Ducky, what’s your opinion on the quality of the speakers on the Surround. I’m leaning towards the Focus but the fact that it’s 8gig only kinda upsets me :S.

Also what’s the extent of the xbox live integration? Does it just allow you to view your gamertag?

That issue was addressed in the newest update, no more SMS/MMS freezing at all. My battery life has gotten better as well, feels like 40% more. I go to work for 8 hours and from 100% with light use it goes down to 80% max( Thats with brightness low and bluetooth/wifi off and such). Wasnt like that before.

I was playing about with my HD2 in froyo and i got a H symbol? I was like no way and i did speedtest… that thing read like 2500 kbs. Speeds are fast as hell in Orlando, some places

My iPhone contract will be up in a bit and i’m looking to get a new phone. I’m very interested in a droid phone. What are some pros and cons for them? Which droid phones are the best? i do like the iphone4 though. my jailbroke/unlocked 3g has served me very well.

I like the speakers and they are great but not a huge improvement. I don’t think it really simulates surround sound well at all because it is so small. The volume is loud but you really don’t get any type of surround sound out of it. I got it over the Focus mainly because of the weight (I like heavier phones) and because I felt the screen was a bit more responsive when it came to the on screen keyboard. The LG phone that has the physical keyboard has a really mushy, uneven feeling keyboard.

Xbox live integration is more than just viewing your gamertag. Links games and stuff to your gamertag from your phone. I would give you more details but I haven’t really used that app on my phone at all.

I’m looking to upgrade my phone at some point early next year. I’m wondering what I should replace my BB Curve with.

I don’t know much and the options aren’t exactly plenty but out of these which would you suggest:
LG Optimus 7
Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+
HTC7 surround
HTC Desire
Or should I just pony up the cash and go for an Iphone?

I already have an Ipod touch so the Iphone isn’t all that attractive to me although combining the two would be nice. How’s the battery life on the 4g? It was god awful on the previous ones especially considering how much I play games on my Itouch.

Battery life is much better but if you play a lot of games you’re gonna be finding yourself charging your phone every couple hours or so. I’d recommend getting another phone instead since you play games a lot.

Does anyone have an HTC desire they can give me feedback on?

This may be a dumb question but…

I recently got a Droid from my wife for my birthday, and I was looking at getting a bluetooth headset, specifically this one:Amazon.com: Motorola H790 Bluetooth Headset (Silver): Cell Phones & Accessories

I can’t find any compatibility charts however. Shouldn’t the products be compatible if they’re both Motorola?

If the phone supports Bluetooth, it should work with all Bluetooth headsets.

Bet. Thanks much. Wanted to make sure.

Heard there should be a new iphone coming out around June. Might just wait and pick that up when it comes out. The jailbreak scene is just too much for me to let go of. Is there anything like that for droid phones? I like the droid x or HTC Evo4g. Anyone have either of those phones?

I’m unsure if I like my HTC surround. Haven’t had much time with it. I think I prefer the focus. Windows 7 mobile is awesome though.

What do you guys think about the HTC Wildfire? I might just cave and go for the Desire, but I heard they’re quite similar.
