Cell phone thread. (Questions, reviews, issues with carriers, etc)

I just found out about this phone today. Do you know when its coming out? eer wait, I just reread what you said, its out already? I’ll get it because its not HTC. I currently hate them. My touch pro 2 often freezes after sending a text </3

I refuse to get a phone without a physical keyboard. I’m leaning toward a Droid 2 at this point.

The physical keyboard on my Droid is such a waste since all I use is Swype anyway :\

I wanted the same thing. So yesterday I returned my LG crap phone and got the new Blackberry Torch. Its awesome.

I’ve never used or owned a smartphone and have always had cheap slide phones that did nothing. Needless to say I’ll never go back.

It has both a physical qwerty keyboard and a touchscreen keyboard. It’s very easy to use and I already feel like I got the hang of it.

The camera is awesome, it has flash as well. Quality of the screen is amazing, really bright. Though the Samsung Captivate I must say had a better screen with their new LED.

But yeah, check out the Torch I love it so far.

I feel the same way. Too bad canada has garbage for phone selection. I’ve been eyeing an unlocked droid 2 though.

I used to feel that whatever phone I had had to have a keyboard as well coming from a treo then ppc 6700 then the tilt. I have an evo now and with the huge screen and swype I don’t even miss the keyboard at all. Swype is seriously the shit.

what is this Swype you guys be talking about?

ok i googled it
no idea how it works, ima have to have someone show me

Marvell’s 1.5GHz, Triple Core ARM Processor Can Handle 140 Hours of Music on One Charge

I hope htc or moto start putting this on their next gen phones.

Sounds interesting, but I want to see it in action. :coffee:

With the T-Mobile G2 coming out mid next week (or Sunday) how many of you guys are interested in this phone. For me, I’m waiting to read a couple of reviews first but I plan to pick this up and make this my first smartphone (I’ve waited too long for WP7 and finally given up on it for now).

What do you guys think about the Acer Liquid E? I don’t know too much about this phone in general, and haven’t had an android phone yet (Last phone I had was the HTC Tilt on WM6…).

I would go for other android phones but this is the only one available with my carrier.

Said contract ends next spring btw.

I’m so glad I found this thread. I’m a Windows Mobile veteran. My lastest phone is the Touchpro 2. I’m getting paid (sometime) this week, and I’m saying goodbye to Windows mobile. At one time it was cool having a Windows mobile device. I remember my old HPAQ phone running Windows CE. Everyone marveled at it, and it was so worth the $500 I spent on it. Gradually Windows Mobile has been so disappointing. I eventually got the Dash, MDA, Wing, and the latest being the Toucpro 2. I was debating on getting the upgraded HD2, but that won’t be happening. I’m abandoning my nearly 10 year relationship with Windows Mobile smartphones. They are so outdate. If WP7 turns out to be any good, I’ll return. Right now NO, and I mean NO WP7 phone has HSPA+ support. And none of the specs on WP7 are anything worth looking at. The HD2 freezes like any other mobile phone from what I heard (and t wouldn’t surprise me).

I’m getting the G2. Played with it, and feel in love with it. It’s fast, the display is awesome, and OMG it loads flash on webpages like a true champ. The keyboard felt responsive too. I had a problem with the on screen keyboard, but I have an issue with virtual keyboards in general, and usually don’t make use of it unless I’m typing something really small. I know I’m going to love the G2 (please direct deposit my money). I can’t replace the Touchpro 2 fast enough.

I’m so in love right now. I purchased the G2 yesterday, and if anyone has T-Mobile it really is the phone to get. You could hold out for the Mytouch HD, but honestly if you’re a person like me who needs a physical keyboard, then this is the phone to get.

The web browsing is insanely good. It's so fast. I live in Atlanta where there is apparently really good HSPA+ coverage. It loads the most heavy duty websites really fast. It fully supports flash as well. And the 800 GHZ is super fast. Honestly if anyone is worried about that, DON'T. It really handles so fast, nothing ever freezes up, and stuff comes up so fast and quick with no lag whatsoever.

My only issue is the freakin physical keyboard. I am coming from Touchpro2, which has a stellar keyboard. This keyboard isn't as good, but I'll eventually adjust to it. I probably have to give myself a week to build up the muscle memory for it. Honestly if you have the money and you are debating getting this phone, it's a no brainer. Buy THIS phone today! You won't regret it. HSPA+ is probably the most amazing speed I've ever seen on a phone.

800mhz processor + HSPA+ = Godlike phone. I almost never have to use my laptop anymore, because I can do almost the same stuff from my phone.

thoughts on droid x?

i would get an iphone but i cant stand at&t

wow so I guess no one uses this thread.

I finally got an android phone, now I’m wondering if there are any geek-centric apps I should be on the lookout for.

Got a Windows Phone 7 a few days ago. I’m really liking it so far. I upgraded from the HTC Fuze to the HTC Surround. I’m very happy so far, Windows Phone 7 is so much better than Windows Mobile.

I dunno, anything video game/comic/tech related that wouldn’t be on the radar of standard “the 20 apps you must own!” lists

Ducky: What apps do you have so far? I’m probably picking up the HTC HD7 (likely getting that one) or make the jump to AT&T and get the Focus or Surround in the next week or so.

Angry Birds
TIKL - Touch to Talk (similar to a walkie-talkie)
Camera 360 (gives the camera some added effects)
Dropbox
PhoneMyPC (remote access)
Chrome to Phone (forward links from your computer’s browser to your phone)
Evernote

That’s all the apps that I’ve been using almost every single day. Since I have a Nexus One, WiFi tethering is also something that I use constantly.

Facebook is great, Twitter is ok. Going to try Seesmic. iheartradio is great, there are some other radio apps also. Yelp is there but you can’t post reviews from it, I don’t think, just read reviews. My favorite app so far is Netflix. Haven’t tried any games yet since I mostly use my phone for work but the Xbox Live integration is pretty cool. There is a lot of garbage apps on the Marketplace right now. I’m hoping they release an update to the Marketplace app that makes it easier to find what you want. Granted, they just launched everything not too long ago, but Microsoft needs to improve on that as more apps become available. There are a lot of free apps.

The Focus is a lighter phone. The speakers on the Surround make it more heavy. I was messing around with both in store and the touch screen on the HTC was slightly more responsive IMO. I have been a die hard physical keyboard user for years now and the Windows Phone on screen keyboard is great, but the actual responsiveness of the HTC screen was better IMO. The screen is supposed to be better on the Focus but I didn’t notice it too much personally. Don’t bother looking at the LG one with the physical keyboard - the keyboard sucks. I would actually recommend the Focus unless you want a more solid feeling phone. I got the Surround mainly because I like the weight of the thing.
