Lately I’ve seen some cell phone related threads come up and I figured I’d start a new thread about it since I work for a cell phone company (and have worked for others in the past) and other people here work for different carriers, we might be able to help people out with any issues.
Yep, anything tmobile related i got ya’ll covered.
cool i cant connect a razor v3i from verizon with a razor v3 with cingular with bluetooth. What the problem?
My razor V3 is modifiy with themes and stuff could that be the problem?
My cingular plan is ending in a few months and I’m considering buying a sidekick2 or 3, from what I understand the 2 has the same speed internet as the 3? But they are a bit harder to get so I might just get a sk3.
From what a friend told me the data plan which is internet and aim is 20 a month, then the minutes plan is like 30 so it comes out to around 50 correct?
I’m wondering if there any like special minute plans for cheaper that have like 100 minutes or less, I really only talk on my cell phone maybe an hour a month literally , my conversations are mad short .
I also heard froma guy that owns a sk3, that I’m better off getting a MDA, he said it’s similar to the sk3 but it’s a ton better, anyone know who makes the MDA and how much it cost??. I’m looking for something cheap as possible with a full keyboard like the sk3.
Also how does the sk3 prepaid plan work? something like a dollar a day for unlimited internet and aim? is that better then paying the monthly? and is there a prepaid for minutes so I don’t have to get a plan but can still talk on it every once in a while.
Quick question! Do any Verizon phones use sim cards???
Well, from my experience with Verizon so far, none of the phones use sim cards.
I have a Cingular phone and I want to put my own wallpapers on this shit, is that at all possible?
Anyone know how or where I can get Loz’s ringtone from final fantasy advent children? (the final fantasy 7 victory music)
Cingular/AT&T and T-Mobile run on a network called GSM, which uses a simcard. You can get unlocked phones and they can be used world wide, but they need to be on a certain frequency. Certain countries have different frequencies, such as 800, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. If you are a traveler, you need a phone that’s a called a Quad-band or “World” phone. The USA runs on the 1900 band.
Nextel also runs on a sim card, but they’re on a net work called iDen, some of their phones can be used world wide also, such as the i2000 and the i930. that’s all i know of. Ever since there mergeance with Sprint, their service has been going down hill big time.
Sprint runs on a network called CDMA, they’re planning to get rid one of their networks, so they assimilate Nextel into their system. They do not require a sim card, from what I recall. Their service just plain sucks ass.
Verizon by far is the best service, they do not require a Sim Card and they also run on a unique nextwork called TDMA. Verizon FTW!
I used to work for a cell phone company, so that’s why I know all these stuff. I have had used all the services, except for Sprint, but I’ve heard many bad things about them. Also, if you go through MCI worldcom for service, good luck, cuz you’ll get screwed.
Does anyone use Slingbox with their phone? How is it? Do you need to have a smartphone?
well im with Nextel and i really like this company,
Good Shit Pryde  thx for the info.
What if i want to get a new verizon phone from someone else? How would iI be able to transfer all my shit from my old phone to my new phone.
On my v3 razr i was able to petty customize it that i wanted. If you have a motorolla phone then you can get MPT(Motorola Phone tools) and depending and your provider you can upload music, pictures, phonebooks ect.
When you get the phone, all you need to do is go to a Verizon Store that has customer service and give them you’re old phone and new phone and ask them to transfer everything from your old phone to your new phone. They have wires to do that, so you don’t need to input your whole phone book again, they also MIGHT have other wires from different companies, i.e. you can have a nextel phone and want to transfer all your data over to verizon, and they might be able to do it, vice versa. You may want to delete everything on the new phone, such as the persons previous #'s etc. just do a master reboot, i think they should have that.
Sweet! :lovin:
Hmmm Is there any way i can go online and buy hardware like that? I have alot of nice Cingular phones but i can’t use any of them since i have a verizon. Is there a way i can use my cingular phones with my verizon account?
no. verizon doesn’t use sim cards, so you can’t use your cingular phones.
that and i have a cingular account (regrettably) and i hate the phones that cingular gets.
i wish cingular still put out NEC phones.
They use CDMA, actually. TDMA was the old network that T-mobile and Cingular used to use. In terms of it’s viability, CDMA is a rather narrow technology in terms of global use. GSM is the world wide standard and most GSM phones will work in a variety of countries. Also, GSM has the ability to hot swap phones via the SIM card. CDMA identifiers have to be programmed into each phone if you’d like to use it with your number.
As for Verizon having the best service, I think that’s pretty subjective. Each carrier has it’s strengths and it’s weaknesses.
Damn, you yankee’s don’t use GSM? I thought more or less that was a worldwide standard? Down here the networks lock their handsets to their own networks- they offer to “unlock” it so you can use it to any other networks for a fee. Of course, i have the necessary cables to do this for myself, unlocking and phone repair (read firmware flashing) is a nice little earner. I find Nokia are the most popular, so there’s all sorts of programs available for the 3G/N series handsets. Down here, the motorola phones are viewed as kiddie phones, while nokia is the real deal, with sony erickson a close second.
I hear that the manufacturers are working on a international database that blocks IMEI numbers around the world for lost/stolen handsets. Not much use when I can change IMEI numbers on most handsets.
Do you guys get free upgrades on your contracts? I’ve had a samsung d500, and nokia 6630, and currently a nokia N70 in the last 3 years, all for free. :lovin:
Stupid question but I’m on Rogers network, I have the samsung d807 and I’m just wondering if it’s possible to remove the big ROGERS letter on my background. Ruins the pictures I put
The MDA and Cingular 8125 are essentially the same phone. I have a Cingular 8125. They have slight cosmetic differences (a lot of people prefer the keyboard on the Cingular 8125) but are about the same. Both phones are based on the HTC Wizard, and both run Windows. They have just been rebranded for use with specific carriers (T-Mobile has the MDA, Cingular the 8125). It’s a great phone, a fully featured smartphone that can hook up with Outlook, read and edit Word and Powerpoint, all kinds of stuff. It’s not a very cheap phone though ($250-500, depending), as it is geared more as a business phone.
I use it to get a lot of work done when I’m not at work, but as far as an entertainment type phone… it has WMP and can hold a lot of music (as much as you can fit on a micro-SD, and you can swap em out), play music, video, surf the net… but most of the builtin features are geared more towards individuals who need the Outlook/Office capability, IMO. Waste of money otherwise.
The Cingular 8125 is the older smartphone as well… they have the 8525 now, which is slightly better.
