sam’s nick comes off as someone who’s seen shit far worse before he even became a spy. Like his childhood made him realize real quick the universe is cold and dark…so when he meets aliens and world destruction…its not as scary. cause he’s been mentally prepared or fucked long before he ever became a spy.
avengers come off as idealists…which they should and sam’s nick comes off as the counter to it. the grounded base…like “look mutherfucker…this is the reality of shit deal with it. you think your special cause you got pew pew powers? nah i got a whole list of niggas like you”.
I’ve NEVER cared about Nick Fury before he was modeled after Sam. First it was because - it was modeled after Sam, but then - Maxx hit it right on the head - his presence really gives off that “Aliens? Nigga I blew their heads off back in 73’”, he captures the aura ‘less’ of a Spy - I don’t see him ever doing spywork, but he really captures the essence of ‘the man in charge of spys’ - someone who’s been there done that and thus is grounded in the reality of the situation and can properly assess the necessary counter force.
I look back at the scene in Avengers where everyone starts arguing and of all people - I felt he was put in the most difficult place. He’s just tremendously believable in his position…as opposed to coming off as ‘Wolverine’s friend’.
I equate OG Nick Fury as something like Dick Tracy and other pulp heroes. They have their moments but overall the appeal isn’t the same for modern audiences that it used to be. Add in the fact that Sam L. Jackson himself is a bigger iconic figure… well, while I am sad to see him disappear in comic book stories, I can’t knock the choice to use him over trying to get some older white fellow that people still would have bitched about anyway.
I dont think people care about the Nick, mostly cause they haven’t talked about his history. Its just heres Nick Fury like him or hate him hes here, with no background story. Unlike the other marvel characters we know a lot more about them.
That’s cool but Asgardians are a fictitious alien race based off of bastardized Norse Mythology (the original Thor was a ginger). Shit like this is way more flagrant:
Was mentioned earlier in the thread when dudes where saying everyone knows Bucky is the Winter Soldier. Someone made a list of pop culture shit that’s apperantly supposed to be common knowledge. Far as I knew tho Wolverines name was Logan…
This will be showing here next week and I’m seeing it. Love that they showed the shield ricocheting and caps abilities in these trailers. I guess that’s an old sharon carter talking at the end.
Just got back from and DAMN, this movie is too damn good. A tad bit better than Avengers. Fighting choreography was solid all around. Story was really good and the pacing was solid as well.
Spoiler
The movie is pretty much one part Brubaker’s Winter Soldier Arc mixed with the premise behind Hickman’s Secret Warriors run. After credits stinger was our introduction to Baron Strucker, Quicksilver, and Scarlett Witch. One thing to note is that Hydra has Loki’s staff from the Avengers movie. Oh and we got a couple of Dr. Strange name drops as well.
In the US, yeah.
Wow; Cap got so pissed with how the government is, he works for other people before us, now. LOL
Shoutouts to What If? #44, that actually HAPPENED there. Whoo.
