The cartoons and video games that used Ultimate Fury weren’t popular enough to push that kind of change on main comics universe. I bet a couple successful movies would though.
Its pretty much Fury’s black son from a tryst he had on a mission way back. It was Marvel’s way of technically getting a black Nick Fury and Agent Coulson in the 616 universe.

The ultimates titles started off super strong as far as “modernizing” the look of alot of hero’s. They pretty much have use that look in everything now…
taking it back further, and I guess i have to give props to fox… they spearheaded the movement with X1 and the grant morrison keep it going with New X-men.
I think nick fury being replaced with samuel was probably the best thing for the character. Nick fury and cable always seemed like the exactly same character one with and one without powers… all the way down to the look.
Agree, “Comedian” costume for Bucky was better. At least he didn’t look like The Darkness.
As far as the movies go, no actor alive could have generated as much hype of gust as Nick Fury, save maybe Harrison Ford, who needs to fire his agent based on some of his most recent films, like Sam L. Jackson. It also doesn’t hurt he is a bit of a nerd himself signing off on them using his likeness in the Ultimate universe so long as he got first crack at the character in a movie.
But at this point, no one has a problem with it other then comic nerds and maybe racists because those that came to the property via the movies know him to be Nick Fury and Marvel/Disney is going sell every possible brand with versions closest to that one until Jackson is no longer playing the role.
Heck, originally Mark Millar had stylized Ultimate Nick Fury based off of Will Smith, it wasn’t until the Ultimates run that Samuel L. Jackson became the artistic model. Can you imagine if that had stuck…

Shame the movie was very meh, I think the way he looked and acted all in is as close as a comic characters every been portrayed. Sam L Jackson is obviously cool but I was a little pissed when they did the switch around the time of IM.

Pretty sure a few years afterwards, any potential reprisal of the role by Hasselhoff was ruined because either the film’s producers or Hasselhoff disliked the portrayal of the character in a MAX (Age 18+) book where he was old and spent a good deal of time banging hookers and cursing.
Yea, kinda ironic as well, I was a big punisher fan, the MAX label stuff by Garth Ennis, and I was thinking that damn, Hasselhoff playing a guy that drinks a lot, bangs hookers and has no qualms about killing brown people… Its like the motherfucker in real life. Opertunity lost.
It seems pretty clear we won’t get white fury back in the foreseeable future. The first Ultimate Alliance was the last thing white fury was in.

Thank God for that. After watching 90s Iron Man: I’d probably hate on that Nick Fury with the quickness. Jackson’s Fury feels like a seasoned spy. He looks like a man with more secrets than he lets on. How he slipped up against WS will be cool to see.
