Capcom Vs. SNK thoughts

I agree that with companies actually making new games now (sweet!), we should turn our attention towards the future.

But I’m sure some of us wouldn’t mind getting in a game or two for nostalgia sake.

Capcom Vs SNK was THE dream match. Just the concept of Ryu being able to fight against Terry Bogard was huge for a lot of people. I was never a big SNK fan, but I liked using a lot of the SNK characters in CvS1. It was a fresh change from the Capcom characters I’d been using, and with the team format I could mix it up with something new and something familar.

With fighting games coming back, who knows? Maybe we’ll see a CvS3 one day. I’m still into the games out now, but if I had a GGPO/PSN/360 version of CvS1 I would definitely hop on that and play from time to time.

Oh lawd, CvS1 tiers. CvS1 was a hard game to tier with the ratios and what not, but if my memory serves me correctly, among the R1’s it was EX Yuri, EX Vice, Blanka, and Reg/EX King. In the R2’s Nak was the best in the game hands down - then somewhere below Nakoruru Tier in Merely God Tier was Guile and EX Balrog. R3…if Capcom hadn’t made the ratio system so goofy, there would have been more EX Yamazaki, Sagat, and to some degree Bison ruining everyone’s lives.

No, I just assume you suck because you’re some noname who talks about playing his favorite marvel superheros like every other guy scrub who comes onto a forum that’s about WINNING at fighting games and coming up with strategies or techniques to do so. It’s one thing to talk about playing a game for fun and enjoying it, with nostalgia and all that. But it’s another to assume that people will go easy on you, especially in a game where the top tiers are too high for the others to catch up.

look at this homo shitting up the thread because nobody gives a shit about what he has to say

:lame:

"…"
that’s all i got, lol

You can’t shit up a thread that’s already garbage.
And what the fuck do you think everybody else is doing to your thread?

Can they just release either CvS1 (ugh…) or CvS2 (hurray!) on a next gen system? I want to use my TE sticks.

I’m holding out hope since they did it for mahvel.

CvS2 is the best fighter ever made, despite all its flaws (customs, RCs, Sagat, etc). Don’t flame me.

Sagat’s really not that bad. He’s top tier sure, but you can learn how to beat him. There are a lot of SNK and no top tier characters that give him problems, mainly Kyo and Rock.

CVS 2 is a great game, because it made you think about pressing buttons. By definition it’s the most masher unfriendly game in existence. When someone know their pokes and ranges, they can become a beast in the game, seriously. It’s a game where you can make any team pretty good too. Yeah SURE there are a lot of teams that won’t win huge tournaments, but give credit where it’s due. People like Combofiend, Daisuke, Bea and others were able to make noise with no top tier teams, because they had solid fundamentals. I didn’t understand the importance of footies until this game. And now I really don’t respect games that don’t put an emphasis on footsies and spacing. CVS2 matches can be dull for the uninformed spectator. But chess matches are dull to spectators, but for ehthusist, it’s great to see the mindgames being played.

I think SF 4 is bringing Street Fighter games back to it’s roots. It’s amazing how so many great CVS2 players like Matsu, Combofiend, Kim1234, Iyo, Yoshio, etc are really great SFIV players. Can’t wait until the next revision of SFIV so they can refine the system and balance. CVS2 was a true thinking man’s game.

ugh “thinking man’s game” is such a toxic phrase

We think alike for some reason. :wonder:

P.S- CVS2 was really fun to play but the SNK side got nerfed pretty hard in that game.

CVS2 is without a doubt, the best fighter there is. And the things you consider “Flaws”, are just part of what makes this game amazing. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Except for maybe a sequel.

I don’t mind Voldo (I always thought he was complicated to play imo), but I’ve been maining Kilik and Nightmare since SC on Dreamcast and I picked up Taki when I bought SC2 for the GCN :wgrin:

and CvS2 is easily one of Capcom’s best (Dan Tier King FTL though )

Tiers was tough in that game. Nak was god tier free.
After that, it was kinda debatable. Yeah guile was top tier, but cammy countered guile hard. Dhalsim owned a lot of the R1s free.

CvS2 is my favorite game, but cut the bullshit.

Game would be a lot better off without RC, and with CCs and the Alpha sprite Top Tier toned down a little bit.

I’m not actually sure how true that is. RCs give the lower tiers a lot of tools to fight the top tiers/bullshit (ie. I main N Iori and RC rekka is a godsend).

What I would love to see is an Evo side tourney using the Xbox version of the game.

CCs are not overpowered in this game. I’m not sure where people get that. The CCs in this game are massively toned down. It’s not the type of crack that VCs and Alpha 2 CCs are for sure. Meter drains a lot faster than normal, and can only be activated on a full bar. Yeah some people have retarded CC stuff, but it’s nothing that anyone can’t live with.

Plus the usefulness of A groove is highly character dependent. Not like Alpha 3 where it’s V-ism or death.

The general Idea of Vism or CCs is just stupid. It was made up in A2 due to the A2 engine lacking chain combos from A1. If you want chain combos, go play the marvel series. Keep that shit out of Street fighter.

I think they’re fine. I like them more than 3s parries. There is definitely risk of blowing your meter. Plus in creates a new spectrum of baiting techniques. The problem with CCs is generally how they are setup. Let’s be honest with you, combo into L3 super is just as damaging as a big CC. The problem is that CCs can generally be exploited like it was in A3 with crouch cancels, or in Alpha 2 where you could set up unblockables. Still, CC has never been autowin. One need to be strategic to set them up. There is even more risk to CCs in CVS2. Lowered invincibility upon activation, and many CCs can’t be juggled full screen, at least not like they could be in Alpha 3.

To each their own. I always found them bad for any game they are in. They normally take the top spots.

The SNK side was given a lobotomy. The SNK characters was hardly worth using. They were underpowered, had no priority on moves. Dan was more dangerous than half the cast from SNK. This game was totally lopsided in CapCom favor. CvS1/Pro was better, leagues better.

How are the top tiers any less able to utilize RC than the lower tiers?

Nearly all of the same characters who were already considered to be among the best (Sagat, Cammy, Blanka) before RC was discovered are STILL among the best.
If you took RC out of the game, most of the tiers would probably be exactly the same, except Vega, Sak, Bison would drop a little but still be pretty damn good. Honda is probably the only character above mid who would be drastically hurt by the removal of RCs, but it’s Honda so who gives a crispy shit.

Iori never needed invincible rekkas, and Bison never needed invincible Psycho Crushers or Scissor Kicks to be good…so why do they need them now?
