"Capcom to adopt 2.5D For Future Fighters"

not really unless you’re talking about kof sprites. sf4 models look like SOTA toys moving around in HD and most 3D animation in games look similar. that’s because there is hardly any deformation going on except on the joints of the models because to apply some kind of modifier (soft bodies) in real time would take up too much memory and slow the game down. also, because of low poly count, you’d have a lot of clipping especially with clothes if you want it to move realistically which would help the models to not appear so stiff. 2D animation doesn’t have to worry about that. it can squash and stretch however the artist wants. now if they could make pixar quality models and animation to games one day then nobody will complain about game animation looking stiff.

Should check out Uncharted if you want yo see some 3D animation going like that, atleast I think the animation in that game is something else

Yes we do…I was baited, wasn’t I?

Just as long as the character models stop looking like ass Seriously 3/4th of the SFIV crew look terrible I’m fine with it.

Rather than Street Fighter 4, absolutely.

Oh, I certainly agree that 3D saves time in development. But becoming able to do a good 3d model takes years of practice - it’s the skill that doesn’t come quickly.
Another benefit is that you don’t have to draw the same character from the same angle like hundreds of times, which frankly gets a bit boring after a few animations.

Also, speaking of BB and 3D and all this… Here’s from Gamasutra interviewing Arc System:

only 2d, i cant stand 2.5 graphics like sf4

As long as you have people who will buy absolutely any old shit with Street Fighter in the name, regardless of how clunky, grotesque, watered-down-for-noobs, or half-assed the collision detection is, Capcom will survive.

At the end of the day, I only care about 2D gameplay. It’s fundamentally different from 3D gameplay, and there are only a few genres (like racing) where there really isn’t a point to have a 2D version.

I play old school sprite-based games all the time, and there are only a handful that would truly be considered a downgrade if the game was swapped out for polygons. Hell, if they remade ST with SFIV polygonal assets, and ran the game at 384x224 res + scanlines, it would be hard to tell that it was actually polygonal. It’s the same thing with KoFXII, in that game you’re looking at prerendered CG models with sprite manipulation.

If SFIV taught us anything, it’s that art direction goes a long way. SFIV’s models emulate Ikeno’s style surprisingly well, and they have more facial expressions and personality than any other polygonal fighter I’ve ever played. I’m not the biggest Ikeno fan, but a CRMK- or Kinu Nishimura-designed fighter with the SFIV engine would look nice as hell.

Yeah, I’ll take the bait. SFEX was actually a very good series produced by the former SFII team and if anyone makes furthur fighting titles for Capcom I’d gladly support them as producers/directors.

I’ll put it this way. If IV actually played anything like the EX series it’d be halfway decent.

Good one.

SFIV is a joke.

2d sprites are hard to make and alot of people dont like them…

I’m hoping they won’t get slower.

I’d seriously play the shit out of a new SFEX. I thought the art design was awful, but the game gets an undeservedly bad rap-- mostly from annoying sprite purists.

create 3D models for them

apply them to Mr. Jeff Schaeffer’s blueprint, of Street Fighter Legends http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=103126&p=7511078&viewfull=1#post7511078

we just got a real game

As much as I respect SFII and the OGs, I really don’t like playing these old games.

It’s either their old style of one answer to everything or the new style of multiple answer to something/innovation. I find the first style boring and I’m sure many players from the Marvel/3S era do so as well.

I don’t think it can be on equal grounds.

3D models are easy to make and alot of people dont like them…

:coffee:

My bad .

Edited.

I said it last year that 2.5d is gonna become the new standard more than likely they are gonna stick with this until they can pull off the KOF12 style graphic which to me show a lot of hardwork and dedication from the staff.

I want a real SFEX4 title.
