Capcom, The way to Strenghten Guile is

Wow way to just reiterate something EVERYBODY has heard before. Let me shut you down real quick. How popular is Seth? Is Seth allowed in every tourney? He isn’t selectable in Japan. Have you ever played a good Seth, offline? Do you realize if he has the life lead at the end of the match with an Ultra you can’t do shit to win? Did i mention he isn’t selectable in Japan?

Both of you be quiet.

Just pointing out that someone who plans to change mains in SSF4 because of a podcast that will probably prove to be completely innacurate is jumping the gun a bit.

That’s what I’ve been doing since this morning.

Lol I love reading the past 2 pages of people jumping ship, for another character. I’m not changing my main…I worked my ass off to use him already. I really don’t care about a setup into Ultra, if he has it or not…I’m still playing him. The fact that Guile is the underdog in SFIV(or joke in most peoples eyes)…and he might be(supposedly)worse…haha I’m actually excited to prove people wrong.

Guile has aleady has great normals, if you know how to use them, and that his normals are betterin SSFIV from Keno’s chat…how is that weaker?

Anywho…no one in this thread has played SSFIV yet, so don’t be nagative about something you haven’t tried out. It’s like all the 3S people think everything about there characters is going to be…just…like…3S. Huh…yeah, right.

I don’t know. I’m even more excited for Guile, lol it’s crazy.

well, over on capcom unity, Seth neither confirms or denies the “low-tier” quote but says that Guile feels more “guile-y” now.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fighter/go/thread/view/7411/22430225/Guile_is_still_low-tier_…_Really_Seth?post_id=390644173#390644173

Fixing guiles normals wont bring him out of the drudges.

well i am 70 percent going to the Dudley Camp for this game.
Guile has no Dignity.

Unless his normals can stop other characters Ultra, but that would be silly.

Reasons not to freak out:

a) It’s good that Guile’s pokes are better, because his biggest problems are his pokes. He has some good ones, but low mk and his walking normals need to get better. If his normals are faster, then that’s good news for comboing and damage output as well.

b) If Guile feels more “Guile-y”, as Seth Killian says, that’s probably a good sign for his tiering. And no offense to Keno, but he doesn’t use Guile and may not have explored certain potentially important things that non-Guile players might not think to check for. Balancing can be subtle sometimes.

c) There’s more time left for balance testing!

d) In the end Guile isn’t even that bad in SF4. Guile is finally like most characters in that the best Japanese Guiles now have 70%+ win rates, it just doesn’t show up in BP because it took Guile players so long to really figure him out. Guiles have performed about as well as a whole bunch of other characters in tournaments over the last half a year plus. He needs buffs to be reach champion-level potential as a character, but he doesn’t need huge ones.

i just hope FK is fixed and c. lp > c. mp is a little easier (atleast). hard to believe that they would let 1 of the 2 moves he has to be foiled by a god damn motherf(*+ing air attack. sorry thats where all my frustration usually comes from and if the devs could atleast say something a lil more concrete then saying “Guile-y” it would be more assuring

I’m not going to lie. Earlier when I listened to Keno’s podcast, I was really upset that Guile was “still low-tier” quote on quote. But then I realized that whether Guile sucks or not, I’m still going to main him in SSF4. I’ve just gotten so used to his play style that I feel like it’s my own. So FTW, Guile for life. You guys are making a lot of sense to. No need to rush to conclusions. I’m definitely going to do a lot of testing when the game comes out, just so I can figure everything out.

Sad

I’m in the same boat…but there will be nothing new to test with Guile…haha.

This just about says it all:

i’d say that what he said pretty much confirms guile is low tier lol.

Guile is such a unique character to the SF series that I say maining him regardless is credible just because of the unique playstyle Guile always brings to the table. Of course Guile’s reputation gets ruined by flowchart c.HK Guile scrubs but a good Guile player is a unique SF experience that you can’t get fighting any other character. I think Guile will just mostly stay a character that has to “talk a lot to get his wins”. Meaning he’ll still be mostly a character where you have to do a lot of strategical positioning and play with the opponent’s mind to win. He’s not a “get the job done” type of character like Sagat or Rufus is and I think people were hoping he would be more like that in Super. I think Capcom threw in all of those extra offensive based characters in Super so that they could keep Guile mostly the same. They want him to be the normal and spacing based character that he already is in IV with some slight buffings. So for those of you that want free damage into Ultra setups and combos that do huge damage…better start changing characters.

meh, it’s not like Guile needs a shitload of buffs anyways. You’d be suprised what an actual ultra setup will do for his game. Buffed normals too? I’ll take it.

if you said to me “guile’s ultra works in the same way as dhalsims. it’ has multiple setups and can be used to get the opponent off your back. he also has improved normals.”, then i would be more than happy with this, regardless of where people think guile is in the tier list at this point. even if his ONLY buff was some setups for sonic hurricane, i’d say that he’s going to be better than people think. a buff to cr.mk would be nice added touch though. flash kick still not working properly, well i’m used to that already.

the problem is, nobody has come forward and explained how sonic hurricane works, what can be achieved with it and if it has any setups. is it usable in the same way dhalsim’s is? can you fadc it like ryu? or is it just a projectile version of rose’s ultra? i have a feeling he STILL won’t have a reliable ultra setup. this is what will keep him down the tier list.

i think guile’s normals are pretty good how they are already. with the exception of about 3 or 4 characters like ryu, akuma and chun li, i never feel like “damn i’m getting out-normalled here”. what i am interested in is damage and ultra setups.

Yeah if Seth is already feeling Guile is still lower tier you can bet the almost number 1 main reason is that he still can’t combo into Ultra. Capcom wanted to keep him very “traditional” feeling I guess and probably figured Guile having easy access to Ultra would make him too much like the other characters. Which will ultimately be his downfall in this game as far as ever seeing a US Guile consistently win tourneys or anything to that effect. Guile winning tournaments will mostly be a Japanese thing if he isn’t radically changed on a damage/combo scale.

If I’m going to theory fight here I’m going to assume that Guile’s new Ultra will mainly be used to accent him in projectile wars and the other Ultra will just be the typical random factor AA style ultra. I don’t see great combo opportunities out of either Ultra especially if it sounds Guile will still basically be made to be “ST Guile in the wrong game” like he sounds like he’s going to be.

even if you could only combo into it in the corner, it would still do wonders for guile’s game. like you said, it might only be useful after a bazooka knee in a fireball war against sagat/ryu.

It’s not like you can confirm SH has no setups have just because we haven’t received any new info.

We just gotta wait and see…
