Capcom, The way to Strenghten Guile is

Ultra 2 should help a bit though. Not as much as against shotos or Sagat, but anything to stop Guile from setting sonic boom traps.

guile’s sonic boom recovery is too little for Bison’s Ultra II, the only way it could connect is if Bison performed Ultra and THEN guile sonic boomed, which won’t happen. I’ve seen video where Guile performed Sonic boom and before he could even finish saying Sonic he could perform a punch.

Now a punish for Flash kick is more like it.

damn, good find. so much for them just giving him shades and moving on…

i don’t know why people haven’t jumped all over this post. this is the kinda shit we wanna know, no?

We already knew Guile was getting hitbox changes to benefit him

But we didn’t have any examples to look at. We didn’t have concrete evidence to point at and say “Well, shit. That looks mighty fine.” Now, we have at least one example. Regardless of the fact that we knew he was getting tweaked normals, we didn’t have any further information. This is a great find, man.

It’s just his opinion it’s not factual. For all we know Ryu and guy could have completely different hit boxes. Just take it with a grain of salt and wait a month.

I didn’t say it was fact, but It’s still better than 20 more pages of

  • “I think flashkick recovers faster, see no punish by noub”
  • “nah, the game is just faster”
  • “flashkick still looks different, but yeah the game is faster”
  • “the game is faster nub”
  • “UDK looks faster tho”
  • “no dude, the game is just faster”
  • “Does boom look moar damaging”
  • “No, it’s because the game’s a bit faster”
  • “^yeah the game is faster”

fuck that.

no you don’t have to main the character, but even if you alt bison, you’d know it’s not a matter of how much dmg sb does. Unless bison is content to sit on the other side of the screen for 99 seconds, the bulk of guile’s damage will come from c.hp, s.hp, and air throw. Those 3 moves alone shuts down all of bison’s approach routes with the exception of EX scissors. SB is used to ensure life lead via chip damage, thus forcing bison to you. And EX boom is used to prevent bison from building meter safely with DR.

Look, this matchup has been discussed to death over the past few years, read some old threads in the bison forums if you’re really that curious about the details. I’m only in this threads because I secretly want to main guile >_>

Well just stating why i personally didn’t respond. It’s a good find, but i just hope they weren’t stingy with the frame buffs and hitbox buffs, and extended it to more than a couple of places

Actually hit box is irrelevant. Try this–stun a fucker. You can get even closer. It is -factual- that Guile’s boot is significantly higher above his head in the photo from SSF4 than it is in SF4. Take Ryu, stun him, get as close as you can, roundhouse. Guile’s boot will extend off the screen. Pause it on contact. Take a look at those two photos again. His boot is still lower, it still doesn’t extend as far as in SSF4.

I had initially thought it was a hit box issue until I started messing with it, under -no- circumstance could I find a situation in which Guile’s boot could reach that high or go that far off the screen on an unstunned opponent.

Plus unless Dictator hits Guile with a s.HP combo his combo bnb damage isn’t particularly scary. Especially when u compare him to characters like Akuma or C.Viper who will take half your life away if they hit you with a hard attack.

Those are all single hits. The fact that a very knowledgeable bison player stated that there are no options to get in on a perfect Guile should be proof enough, since any character could say the same thing and yet Guile is still low tier.

LMAO megadeth I feel you. I think I said that like a month ago, like come on everybody enough with the wish lists and complaining the game is done and being put in boxes as we speak. Now all we need to find is some evidence. The find does provide some insight however, I don’t know much about hitboxes or frame data but it looks like those two pictures hit in different quadrants. If it was Ryu and not Guy in the SSF4 picture we could make a honest comparison because we would know the hit-boxes are identical. Right now we don’t know what Guy’s is though so anything said about those pictures is purely opinion.

On another note I’ve been debating this in my head over who to main in SSF4 out of the current cast (the new ones are a total different monster I will be sure to try out as well) and I wanted to know some of your opinions. So far I’m really taking a liking to Dictator because I feel he is just as solid as Guile but does more damage and he fits fell into my play style because of his zoning influences and great footsies. I’ve put so much time into Guile that I’m second guessing if I want to actually just totally drop him for Dee Jay since Guile’s normals are just that dope! I feel that if any of you have been playing as Guile for a long time can stand with me on this in that Guile has had to make your footsies far superior to anybody elses that you play against at your respective venues. In short I’m thinking about doing a Dictator main since he has some very good matchups then back it up with a Guile alternate for such matchups as Zangief. What you guys think on that combo?

Also just letting you guys know some sick news we just received over at Game Galaxy in Tennessee. We will be hosting the SBO qualifiers for ST!!! From what I gathered it looks like top 3 players will be heading to Japan. Looks like its time to brush off that Anniversary Collection and do it up with the real American Hero!!

Again, where it hit makes absolutely no difference, look away from where it connects, it’s irrelevant. If you’re concerned about that, they connect either on the same frame or within frames of each other (Guile’s upper body is in the same position, a part of his body that constantly moves during that move and only looks like that on that frame).

The point of the picture was to show two things: Regardless of hitbox size (Ryu is actually one of the smaller characters in the game, very few things work on him that work on people like Cammy), his leg is elongated to the point that when -not even hugging the corner- it extends off the screen. In a test where you ARE hugging the corner, it doesn’t come close to extending off the screen.

And secondly, the height of his boot is noticeably higher. In SSF4, his boot is entirely above his head, where the top of his flat-top meets with the end of his pants if you drew a straight line from it.

Why does any of this even matter? Single hits or not, they’ll still land, they’ll still do damage. And just because a character is low tier doesn’t mean he’s bad vs everyone. It means he’s bad vs ALMOST everyone.

http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/oct/17/street-fighter-4-tiers-character-rankings/

Guile has exactly 3 good matchups, two of which are 6-4(vs console characters), and one is 7-3. Three guesses on who the 7-3 is.

My brain is really simple, so this is what I got from looking at the image:

hope that helps anyone lol

lol guile lost his ankles

They’ll land if the player is playing perfectly, as they should, and once again any character could say this against Guile. Guile is supp0sed to have the advantage vs honda and cammy too, but they can still catch up in a hurry once they get in, and then Guile is really at a disadvantage.

Somehow that 7-3 doesn’t fit in with the other 7-3’s in the game, i doubt you can really explain it

Yo to really tell you the truth stop looking at tier lists to tell you who’s better than who, It’s going to just hold you back my dude. Not saying it won’t happen but I doubt you will ever be a top player and you aren’t facing Justin Wong everyday, just normal players just like you. I doubt any of you guys are truly practicing 8 hours a day, I play maybe once or twice a week and I do well against everybody at my venue and we have nearly every matchup in the game. It doesn’t matter if Guile has only 3 good matchups if you are a solid Guile who knows his spacing, can block and tech plenty of moves, and have great footsies you’ll be winning nearly everytime. It’s just fact man, play boring as fuck and make em chase you like good pussy.
