Miss an airthrow and you’ll find out pretty damn quick
- Get in 2. W/e into kicks into stomps reset. 3. mixup cmd grab, w/e tick throw or w/e into legs stomps again. 4. repeat step 3 until dizzy. 5. With meter from dizzying opponent go for overly intricate dmg scaled combo that does 200 dmg but looks like some Guilty Gear shit. 6. repeat step 1.
Guess you haven’t played a combo crazy seth… its doable, but its extremely hard if you get caught by the divekick… its open season then! Teleport setup is also doable with a sonic boom… even tried to ultra him when he teleported but sonic boom got me each and every time. Guy had mad timing!
i’d say the match is 5-5. guile has 900 stun and if seth does get in on him (which he can with much less difficulty than you make out…although i admit its not easy) then guile can basically die from one knockdown, especially if seth manages to corner him. the way you describe the match sounds like seth doesn’t have any mix ups and guile is amazing on wakeup. his dive kick is especially nasty for guile to deal with, imo. oh and before i get called a scrub ect (because obviously you’re a scrub if you lose to seth with guile according to you) , i’ve played leebuki and djdevalle85, arguably the two best seth’s on psn and my record against them is pretty good…so i see the match as 5-5 with a very slight advantage to seth and i think that is a fair reflection. if you are playing someone as good as geom modinside then maybe i could see why you think seth is free against guile, but i don’t know your skill level.
the good thing for guile is that in this match his damage actually counts for something. however, i don’t think guile is seth’s worst matchup. surely ryu/akuma and sagat are worse.
Yea, I agree with wikum. Seems like one of those, if you get lucky and get in, it’s bad for one person, if you can keep them out, bad for the other. guile has good options against seth like very little boom recovery, the ability to hide behind booms to stop j. hp spam while getting in, and airthrow off walljumps. But you can’t forget that seth has arguable the best mixup in the game, and against guile who has no good reversal options, that can be a bitch. That, and seth stuns guile real quick Yea, 5-5 sounds about right.
I’d say there’s more chance of seth getting in than there is of Guile timing his airthrow 100% perfectly 100% of the time
Well yes, but getting in isn’t completely reliable on air throw. It really helps, but there is of course the infamous sonic boom downfierce trap. Also, if seth is wall jumping, he is probably starting full screen away, which means there is a good chance guile has time to charge antiair flash kick of even ultra.
That’s why you only arthrow occassionally. Guile has an answer to Seth anytime he goes in the air. you also have jump back fierce, which has a good hit box, and does pretty good damage to Seth. And you can aithrow him out of is walk flip 100% of the time, just watch the peak of his jump. You just have to get familiar with the spacing on his aithrow.
An extremely slow boom sounds sick.
It works if they try to get lucky close to 100%, but i recently encountered seths who attack early which means you both whiff, and then he’s right beside you and it’s a pure guessing game. Jump back and fierce is also nearly a guaranteed whiff in that situation as well.
late lk flashkick is ok sometimes, down fierce would probably trade with walljump options but is abit easier to time if they get wise.
Bottom line is, I don’t think it’s really a 5/5, but then again Gief is considered 5/5 and look at the facts for that one
That is the whole key right there, trade=win. Really my whole gameplan against a good Seth is avoiding his deadliest mixups and just seeking to trade/counter every poke. If you beat it clean, excellent. He gets much more dangerous with meter though, as his EX-SRK and EX-SPD and downright evil.
I think it is a little towards Seth but not even 6-4, mostly because of his stun output and Guile’s low stun. Gief is a perfect 5-5 IMO.
@ Kich- I agree, not a very thoughtful response or warm welcome to the guy who came in (although his claim of 7.5/2.5 was just wrong wrong wrong). I think I disagree about no free Ultra though; at complete full screen guile recovers fast enough to block, but inside of that range he still gets flushed into the belly. Also, Seth can just go for a different setup, force a jump, react to a mid-range boom… Not saying it is a completely free-to-land ultra, but if the Seth user has Ultra and is competent you will get got.
i lol’d at the sonic boom and the fact that Seth can do nothing comment.
Seth can Teleport(not safe), Throw EX Sonic Boom, Throw Sonic Boom. Jump dive kick.
St. FP go under fireballs which helps. EX Sonic Boom is two sonic booms which helps for delivering pressure.
Seth players capitalizes on baits since they can’t really trade.Guile doesn’t destroy Seth.
Also Guile’s AA isn’t as dangerous as Ryu or Rufus so Seth players can take more risk even with the low stamina.
I’ll take a cr.HP or Flash Kick compared to Rufus’ Jumping FK to Snake Strike or Ultra.
Saying that Guile can do some decent stuff to Seth with constantly keeping him back.
But compared to other characters, his keep away damage is quite low. Ex. Sagat.
Guile needs some help certainly as there a reason he isn’t played much.
Most people know these reasons and choose not to pick him.
Whoops, missed this
No beef, unless maybe he WAS the guy on psn i played. I think the match is in seths favour because he’s playing against a guy with low damage, low combo-ability, low stun, low punishment and hardly any chance of landing an ultra. Also his main anti-air needs to be surgically timed while seth has a really good amount of air attacks he can choose from, guile NEEDS to keep seth out here and seth has more than a few chances here that he doesn’t usually get vs other characters
He needs to play perfectly against you or he’s probably going to lose the round(what’s new with guile?) But seth can actually afford to screw up in this matchup because getting airthrown once or catching a cr mp to FK isn’t the end of the world when you could catch an ultra or 400 damage combo easily.
Seth has alot more room to breathe in this match even though he can’t land his ultra as easily. Guile can basically flip a coin as to whether or not he’ll win as i find if airthrow timing is off there’s a good chance of losing.
A brutal rushdown, usually focused on stun… Something setup off of a simple boom teleport mixup or knockdown. They can try to go for cr.hp to lp.srk to air stomps (air reset) followed by a strong mixup with EXSPD or SRK or bait a reversal. Seth has great air options and a deep j.hk (can crossup) can combo into c.hp; which means Legs in the corner into stomps reset or srk mid-screen into stomps reset. If Seth wants to stay close he can play a mini vortex with j.hk dive to throw or c.lp combo into legs. He has excellent pokes; s.mk and hk, and great sweep range. Also, his tanden engine is pretty great just outside of poke range, it can pull in for a safe block string , or if you are trying to jump out or poke it will vacuum into big combo. Mty favorite is with 3 bars EX-SRK (over 6 hits) into EX-Engine into big combo.
edit: all this is based on my (not great) Seth and playing against a local Seth that is much better. Also the newly discovered Magneto Loop looks like it has major potential. Instant air stomp from ground to j.hk (combos) into major combo, all from what looks to be a confirmed poke.
For me rufus and e. Honda
the only person I constantly have trouble with in matchups is rufus and e honda. I usually lose when I pick GUILE against these characters. When I lose I pick BISON(dictator) and beat them. I have to be really patient against those characters when I am guile. I am an offensive guile. Everyone else it’s just how skilled the other player is. zangief isn’t hard to zone and niether is m bison(dictator) sagat is easy once u figure out how people play. Seth and el fuerte I just keep my distance cause them people are cheap as hell when they get you in certain situations
guile is one of honda’s worst matchups. just play patient, throw booms, air throw everything he tries to do … if guile stays out of the corner he really dictates the pace of the match.
Blocked Hurricane at :54
Looks to me that Sonic Hurricane is quick as fuck and safe on block. Maybe we won’t be able to combo into it but it looks like it maybe be great for corner traps.
I don’t know bout what I just saw…but SH looks pretty safe. Fast start-up(where’s Gilley at?..he can read frame data on this stuff) and it looks better for AA then FE.
whiff EX Flash Kick seemed a little safer. I dunno, i dont main guile but it kinda seemed like it
