So now Zangief and Guile may have the same hp? Wow.
I don’t assume people would play Guile perfectly. I just assume people are playing him with common sense and at least trying to make as little mistakes as possible. I don’t know how Hakan will be played, but he doesn’t appear to have any free ways around sonic booms. That’s just my observation. And I think the whole idea of Hakan being a bad matchup just harkens back to “Guile suck, and is free against anyone”. That appears to be the popular opinion in this thread. I mean it IS possible to win with Guile, and believe it or not, he does have some decent matchups
It’s St. Patrick’s Day…Guile wears green…he might have Irish ancestry…he might have luck on his side for Super.
It wasn’t until this week that I actually considered dropping Ultra 1, but I admit that I only wanted to stick with Flash Explosion because Sonic Hurricane looked lame as shit. Now I’m getting around that.
I was hoping Ultra 1 was going to be buffed, but not in terms of FADC–>Ultra (which ain’t happening anyway from the looks of things). I mean like faster start-up. Maybe some more damage. Even more invincibility frames would make it better as a counter-Ultra against some characters like Sagat. I would’ve liked any of those traits. I’m just tired of using it as only a “I hope it’s my lucky day” wake-up tool, or comboing it after LV2 Focus for shit damage. And as an anti-air…forget it. I have to be already charged, in position for my opponent’s jump-trajectory, have my opponent jump-in like an idiot, and then STILL need to perfectly time the Ultra so that it hits the opponent when they’re an inch off the ground. Do it too early, and you get damage that rivals an EX Flash Kick (that 2nd kick in Flash Explosion just loves doing 1-hit in anti-air situations), that is if your opponent’s j.HK didn’t hit you out of the Ultra. Do it too late, then your opponent lands and blocks, and now you’re gonna die.
If Flash Explosion remains the same, and Sonic Hurricane is safe® on block or has invincibility frames, then it’ll be an easy decision for me. I’d even take just using Sonic Hurricane for safe chip damage than to just die with my Ultra still in stock like I usually do with Flash Explosion.
Hearing about him having more HP sounds pretty nice. Never understood why Capcom decided to give Guile 900 stun though…pretty frustrating against Sakura, Balrog, and Seth players.
^
I don’t think anyone knows what going on with Flash Explosion (or Guile in general). Really, we got nothing so far…but I’m hearing minor adjustments from other character threads about there U1’s…and for the most part, there getting buffed. Ken’s U1 can do full Ultra, off of a FADC heavy SRK for example…and the playboy has complete invincibility on EX SRK and better fireball…c’mon.
So by far, some stamina (1100 sounds too good…1050 more likely) and a strength increase (Pre-SSFIV Sagat maybe) can go along way…let theory fighter continue!
Who needs luck? FADC Shades all day.
Too bad that’s all he has.
That +100 ‘hp’? Probably +100 stun.
What’s wrong Guile? Thinking about your friend I killed? Try harder!
I haven’t kept up with the Guile updates, but I thought about what it meant when Seth said, “Flash Explosion isn’t fast enough nor does it have enough horizontal range to counter people like the Sonic Hurricane.”
Since Flash explosion has 7 frames of startup (which is actually pretty damn fast for an ultra), if we took Seth literally, we might take this to mean it has 6 or less frames of startup. At this point, the ultra already becomes good for punishing a lot of things. For comparison’s sake, Bison’s s.hk comes out in 6 frames.
Now, if it has 5 or less, Guile would be able to link his ultra off of a bunch of his normals. This would actually be pretty disgusting, as he would be able to connect off of a crouching or standing jab, or everyone’s favorite, far s.hp. This sounds borderline OP, and it would have been pretty easy to discover this in the beta builds, so for argument’s sake I’ll say Sonic Hurricane has 6 frames of startup.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Sonic Hurricane doesn’t have the retarded double flash kick motion, so you’re not required to keep a down charge. I don’t know if SH has a qcf x2 motion or a double charge motion, but either way this is a huge benefit because Guile isn’t restricted to his crouching normals. If it’s a qcf motion, Guile would be able to hit confirm from any sonic boom. This actually sounds very broken, so my guess (again, I don’t know) is that it’s a double charge motion. If it is indeed a qcf motion, Capcom would be forced to lower the hit advantage on the sonic boom.
So what does this leave him with? Well, with a double charge motion, and a 6 frame ultra, this means Guile should be able to link ultra off of most of his normals on counterhit. This actually seems like a pretty fair buff, and inline with the designer’s philosophy of improving Guile’s footsies. Combined with a faster FA2, it may be possible to sonic boom, FA crumple, dash ultra. If it’s qcf x2, all the better.
This is all speculation, but the point is, the new ultra can have dramatic effects that may not be obvious from a few hours of play testing. Bison and Chun both have qcf ultras that will majorly change the way they play. Not everyone needs dpfadcultralulz.
tl;dr I wouldn’t be surprised if Guile could link into ultra on counterhit.
Ah, don’t kill our enthusiasm. I believe guile has had lower than average stun in more games than this one and 100 health would be far more useful
finally, someone else noticed… I’m actually pretty confident that Sonic Hurricane will have a 6 frame startup… I watched the video where Justin Wong interrupted the Sonic Hurricane twice with the Psycho Punisher, and noticed that both times the SH was interrupted at exact same frame… so I would assume that’s the frame in which the Ultra freeze ends… counting the frames from that point, it took about 5 frames to connect in the demo video… add 1 frame for pre-freeze, and that’s a 6 frame start up…
when Mr. Wiz first posted that the SH was crap… I said that I don’t really care, as long as the start up is less than 8 frames, and it has more range then a flashkick… the reason being is that it will be possible to hit confirm a CH far HP into a Sonic Hurricane… and it will be stupid easy to do… that is why, secretly I really didn’t care if they didn’t change Guile at all… as long as they don’t nerf him… however, hearing the rumours of the damage reduction on Far HP now definitely has me concerned… if they actually bothered nerfing the damage on that move, who knows what else they might have changed for the worse… if they increased recovery on far HP… well, shit… :shake:
I’m thinking they probably made st.HP better than it was, and it could be hit confirmable into ultra. That would make sense to me. As long as he has a way of comboing his ulta, I’m fine with that. I never through FADC ultras really fit guile at all anyway. I have a strong feeling that the Super version of Guile will be very similar to the CVS2 version. Just a hunch. I think links into ultra seem to suit Guile’s play style a lot more.
That’s what i’ve been hoping for, he’s closest to that version anyways
That would be awesome, I remember asking for this in the OG SF4’ Guile Fixes thread
Komoda, AFO and Muteki are of the opinion that the mathchup is actually in Guiles favor, albeit just slightly.
Kind of feel bad for you guile mainers, all sources say he’s still the same old bad character and i haven’t seen no positive info yet.
what sources? all 5 of them?
If Guile isn’t better in ssf4 i’m switching theres no point in limiting myself to bad character on a brand new game with more better characters. How is Guile expected to be even with characters like Ibuki, makoto, T-Hawk, Adon, Juri, and Hakan? I want to enjoy the game and not be at a disavantage to all the possible bad matchups that Guile might have.
How do you KNOW that Ibuki, Makoto, and anyone else in SSF4 is better / worse than Guile when none of us have played the game yet?
I don’t know, i’m just assuming they’ll be better because of the videos i’ve seen and how they play.
