guile is such a terrible character + everyone who plays him is a terrible person i hope they make his new ultra he pulls out a gun and shoots himself for being a garbage shit character

Well if that’s the case then why is Ken pretty ass-tastic even though he can do shoryu FADC Ultra and all of that good SFIV shit? Oh yeah that’s right cuz it only works right on a clean counter hit. Yeah his normals are generally weaker and have slower start up compared to Ryu’s so his combo possibilities aren’t as strong and most of them lead to mix ups instead of untech knockdowns that shoot Ryu towards the top. Is Ken a casualty of SFIV? No he’s just a casualty of just not purposely given the tools that Ryu has.

Having normals that are nothing to write home about is just some blasphemous decision the developers at Capcom decided to have. Super SFIV’s mechanics or any of its new characters do not force Guile to have half assed normals and a super weak cross up that aren’t reminiscent of his glory days. Admittedly Guile having shit damage on BnB’s does partly have to do with the SFIV system. Though that was the case for SFIV from the beginning and Guile’s normals really should do more damage either way. Throws being weak and easy to tech hurt Guile bad also since he doesn’t have a vortex game on wake up like other characters do for scoring throws.

What does Guile’s special moves being rather weak have to do with SFIV? SFIV has made special moves for most characters better than they’ve ever been since like Alpha 1. Especially when it comes to the shoto style characters. SFIV’s game engine did not make Guile’s specials suddenly worse when they’ve made other character’s specials better than they’ve ever been since Super Turbo. It was just random balancing acts from Capcom who were afraid of giving characters good specials for god knows what reason. Why all of Dhalsim’s specials and command normals suck ass outside of df+LK/MK slide and an occasional teleport is beyond me too. Especially in a game where other character’s specials like Ryu, Sagat and Honda were brought back more so to their glory days. Honda with a good headbutt and good buttslam hasn’t happened since Super Turbo. If you take RC’s out of CVS2 Honda’s headbutt and butt slam were designed to be terrible.

Though even with all of that Honda seems to be surviving pretty well in a game where throwing sucks unless your character has a sick vortex game. Not to mention a game where having a good ultra is normally a trait for a high tier character. Mainly because his BnB’s actually do damage, his normals actually do damage and have RANGE and his super when stored gives him a lot more opportunities for high damage. This is all despite having a shitty ultra, sub par command throw and being pretty free to cross ups.

I could conversely say Honda been shitty in preety muc every other game beside hd remix.

They made him usable, aka translating his normals and damage.

They did not do the same for Guile.

But, hey nothing Guile players can do now, so arguing over the usefulness of guile design is pretty hard for me to do where in the latest game all is faults which every character has are the only thing noticeable.

I will still play him to win wit him, but of course I and many other guile players (ignore what thhey are saying now) will probably use some other characters as well.

Honda being shitty in every game besides HD Remix is basically what I said too. Well technically in Super Turbo he was a complete monster against half the cast and completely died to the other half. He was probably the most randomly tiered character in SF history.

Though yeah with 35 characters to choose from u might as well just put down the sunglasses and sonic booms now. :lol:

Japanese developers are a lot different than American ones. They’re perfectly competent and capable they just don’t care about making the game as balanced as possible.

In fact I think they like having some amount of imbalance (for whatever reason) and I think this is evidenced by their past games.

If you think they’re going to do jack shit for character balance between now and release you’re very naive.

I think a lot of people saw this coming when they decided to cram so many new characters in.

Yeah people are making an overly big deal about things I think. Guile is just one of those characters where if he has gotten any buffs it’s going to be in minute things that probably won’t be apparent until the game releases. It’s obvious Capcom doesn’t want him to be an FADC Ultra character especially since the FADC Ultra characters are losing the strength of their powerful attributes as well.

Either way I don’t see Capcom doing anything that would have made Guile close to top tier. Especially with 10 new very obviously powerful offensive based characters trying to steal that spot from him.

Sonic Hurricane is possibly the least “ULTRA Esque” Ultra in the game. It’s just so visually plain. Pretty much every other Ultra in this game is just an epic take on one of the characters Supers. But this shit looks so half assed. It’s his fucking Ultra, man. They should have actually made it a giant Hurricane that goes vertically into the air like Seths new Ultra. Hitboxes all the way up.

It’s like they just churned this one out in 10 minutes. “Let’s just make his sonic boom a little bigger. That’ll work.”

yeah, Guile (and some other characters in SSF4) have been branded to be low tier by the SSF4 developers. obviously, this isn’t the first time this has happened in a SF game. still, did they have to add injury to insult with the sunglasses buff? man, that’s cold.

The truth is a heavy set of buffs might make guile really overpowered, he is inching on having some very very powerful tools. Its hard to balance him so he doesn’t eat the rest of the cast. When I play random I really destroy the opposition… now competitions that’s another story, he is not viable.

So guess Capcom are scared of creating another monster like in sf2, they rather just make him into another joke character with the glasses thing. Going to annoy the hell out of people to put on those glasses ;p! Not only is he really scrubby, but he is beating your ass and he puts on glasses to show how scrubby you are ;p!

I’m guessing the reason for Japanese tiers is to give various options to various people… extremely good execution players can play with say guile and challenge a lesser execution player can pick Rufus… they will still have fun during the matchups and the guy with less execution might still win from time to time. Anyway that’s my take on balancing… for competitions… then yeah that seriously limits the playable options!

Still again, there are a lot of tiny changes that could seriously affect guile’s play mechanics… Mr wizard Guile might just be too scrubby to see those… I will wait for Guiley’s opinion and see what he has to say!

Edit: Also are we going to see a list of changes for sf4 to ssf4… i’d love for Capcom to publish said changes so we could see whats really going on!

Honda is still like this. The MU’s didn’t really change, he beats the same, gets beat the same, and goes even with the same. Pretty much.

Well except in Super Turbo he went 2-8 or worse against Ryu though now can actually competitively fight Ryu at no more than 4-6. Watching how seamlessly Alex Valle killed Kusumondo at Evo2k8 in Super Turbo was a huge testament to how free Honda was to fireballers in that game. The only fireball character that decimates Honda in SFIV now is Sagat whereas in Super Turbo if someone picked a fireball character you might as well have just put the controller down. Sure he still loses to the fireball characters but it’s not a “just don’t even try thing” like it was in Super Turbo. Like the tiers were basically Honda kicked your shit in or he got raped HARD. Guile does not rape Honda in SFIV like he did in ST.

Didn’t Ono SPECIFICALLY mention buffing Guiles footsies earlier? Why would they not do that? And again, how could Mr.Wizard notice whether or not Guiles normals were buffed if he:

A) Doesn’t play Guile
B) Can’t tell whether or not thunder knuckle was nerfed, and if it did get a nerf it’s only by one or two frames

No, not according to honda’s like thelo and ea megaman that made top 8 last evo. Ryu/ken are still honda’s worst matchup, and he still rapes hawk/gief endlessly. Ken’s new srk makes life hard for honda, and fake fireball doesn’t make it easier.

He still has that upclose advantage. He still has trouble getting close.

Maybe they improved guile’s hitboxes. Perhaps sobat, and cr.mk will be a little better at least.

I dont keep up with honda…but that would be broken.

Honda doesnt need that…his worse matcup just got a health and damage nerf…he will be fine without someting like that.
