From what I’m reading in this thread, capcom seems to be tweaking Guile a little it instead of buffing him, and I don’t think that’s a good thing. Wait and see I guess. 1 hit sonic boom seems pretty unnecessary.
Give guile a counter ultra.
It would probably have so much startup time you could jab him during his counter-stance and it would still be blockable.
or it would just trade.
and sagat would somehow be able to step kick launch into ultra.
Thank you, this is what I’ve been pondering. The possibility that they’ve turn EX Boom from a answer to stay in a FB war in SFIV, to an offensive pressure EX Boom to move forward. If the 1 EX Boom is true, it would have a have super armor…though how much? El Fuerte EX dash takes 2 hits…maybe something similiar, but most likely absorbs 1 hit.
By also making the EXBoom slower, Guile probably can walk next his boom (maybe even dash infront of it) without FADC cancel, while approaching the opponent…this I can see. Imagine the pressure game. You walk with his Boom in front of him…the opponent would have to EX a move to cancel it (but if EX boom abosrbs twice…then they have no choice but to block) and if they jump over the slow Boom (if you telegraph it)…you got setups into jp. grab, cr. HP…even FK or Flash Explosion. Another thing is, the EX Boom cancels ground players attacks (which alot of crew specialty lies) from rushdowns alltogether (unless someone has Super armor or ignores progectiles (Gouken) ) .
Could this slow EX Boom be part of Guile’s now footsie game the developers were talking about? I don’t know, but now that I listed what might become of this EX Boom…it’s actually starting to sound nice…only in theory…but nice.
The other thing they could do, but it might make Guile OP…is change which EX Boom you want, depending on the button presses, like certain characters. For example, slow EX Boom is done by pressing LP and MP. Fast EX Boom for MP and HP…that’s asking for too much though.
Considering the fact that he only has 2 moves (and I’m fine with that kthnx), that wouldn’t be OP. That would add variety in his arsenal. Very unlikely though.
i still say it’s a joke… he had a 2 hit EX Boom in previous builds, what made them change their minds since then? and lol at the concept of a fireball having super armor…
on a different note… is it just me, or is the Sonic Hurricane really fast? definitely under 7 frame start up… might even be a 4 or 5…
Here is my thinking though about the “new” EX SB.
While it might come in handy against some characters, it doesn’t help in 2 of Guile’s hardest matchups; Viper and Akuma.
Both characters don’t give a hoot about your booms unless they don’t know how to use their character well. Also, the current high speed of the EX boom is what’s so gret about it…you catch people doing stuff they thought it was very safe…mindfuck right there.
I think at this point, we’re getting too deep into theory fighter without not much but rumors.
We’ll either need to have some more real data or just wait it out till it comes out.
Pretty much, yeah. It’s just fun and a time killer to talk about it. I still don’t believe shit about the rumor…we’ll get Hakan this week, then hopefully soon, we’ll get some actual footage and feedback on the remaining characters.
Im not sure what guile needs, but what im sure about is that guile needs major changes to compete. Capcom isnt going the right direction if they think characters like guile or vega can be fixed only tweaking numbers unless the metagame changes drastically (which I doubt).
i dunno, guile is pretty decent as a character i think atm in street fighter iv what really bones him is ultras in general, if there were no ultras in sf 4 guile would probebly be mid teir at least he just lacks the abilty to come back at the end of a match that the top tiers have. he would still have bad matches but a lot of them would not nearly be as bad.
how many times have you been beating sagat or even gief and 1 mistake has cost you 3/4 of your life? the fact that guile lacks the ability to do this unless someone really fucks up like randomly throwing ultra out with no setup. is what really makes it an uphill battle, there is no easy mode with guile you play well the whole match or you don’t win it’s as simple as that.
The things is capcom is not going to change that, and if they are going to make this game that one reversal equals loosing the round guile and many others need tools to deal with it. It will have more sense to just remove the dumb ultra system but its not gonna happen.
Better we start seeing some real improves to the low tiers, its good people are so hyped about new alpha and 3s characters but just looking at the previews you can see they have the tools there. You cannot add 10 new characters ans just forget about people who play guile or vega and hope they switch.
Its just the attitude of capcom seems to have by reading interviews and stuff, hope they just dont give guile a better flash kick and new ultra and call it a day.
to be fair, if he really does have flash kick>fadc>sonic hurricane, he might not be as low tier as people think. 300/400 damage on a more regular basis would mean a hell of a lot to guile. if it doubles as a pressure projectile (like dhalsim), then it’s even better. his normals are above average. yes, flash kick is bad, but we are already used to it being bad. having said all that, when someone like gilley is saying he’s heard things and it’s looking like he’s switching to adon, i think it’s looking likely that we are doomed lol.
it seems like guile has been one of the most neglected characters by all of the beta testers. has anyone half decent with guile managed to play this game yet? until someone who mains guile uses him, it’s really hard to know for sure how right these “leakers” are. they may well be great with balrog and sagat, but guile is a very different thing altogether.
^
I think it’s kinda like Keno and everyone else…it’s a shit load of people testing the game…but for 20 minutes or something. These guys are picking the most likely candidates for high tiers, and giving nothing but positive reienforcment behind them.
The low tiers get 20 minutes in, and no one can tell the difference from Vanilla SFIV. It’s hard to swallow the info right now, cause in reality…no one knows shit right now. I’m taking the 3S propaganda crew with a grain of salt right now, because there in the spot light now.
Again, until release, everything is theory fighter for the most part.
Very True. We got nothing else to do but to theory fighter though.
Well, we will know Capcom’s answer to the topic’s question pretty soon.
Capcom, The way to Strengthen Guile is …
Here’s something else no one mentioned yet. Pretty much nobody has the reflexes to FADC a FK on reaction…it’s a 50/50 on wakeup. If you hit em, great; as of now, you have no follow up. If they block, OK; you dash out of range, or in for a throw maybe.
This is not a reliable way to land an Ultra. Even assuming you could squeeze a charge in, by the time you realize whether your FADC FK hit or not, it’s probably too late. Now you could just let the Ultra go either way, but if they block…
The whole point of why people want to FADC into Ultra with Guile is so they have something on par with the other characters who can easily combo into it. Right now, there’s nothing easy about it, and certainly nothing reliable. I’m sure you will be better off trying to get a psychic LK FK into SH than anything else, and that’s still a guessing game.
the way to strengthen guile is :
let sonic hurricane combo from s.hp
a one hit ex boom that absorbs projectiles (thus increasing its own damage to 150 if it absorbs a projectile) and it armor breaks and crumples
11 frame recovery on flashkick
sonic booms do 65 damage
a 20% increase in damage on all his normals
a 4 frame c.mk
yeah right:arazz:
as much as i agree, it will make people think twice about pissing around with guile on his wakeup. this can only be a good thing, considering how much he gets owned on wakeup at the moment.
anyways, i decided to list a couple of things about the new ultra. maybe someone might be able to add something that i’ve missed out:
Confirmed:
easier to dash into ultra
only need back charge, rather than just a down back charge (easier/more chances to use the ultra as a punish)
Speculation:
flash kick/fadc/ultra
can be used as a “get the fuck off me” move like dhalsim’s ultra
it probably has anti air properties.
This whole time I could have been doing tha… wait a minute… that shit doesn’t work on small sprite characters when they’re crouched. Also, I land a lot of c.mp with no charge in the bank - it’d be nice to have a combo option. Capcom has, however, made it clear that Guile is forbidden from having combos.
So what do you guys think can be done to improve flash explosion? I’m hoping they tweak it in some way to make it less useless. If they would just allow it to be charged initially with downfoward instead of just downback, then you could juggle it off of his downfoward hardkick.
They can leave it without a combo setup, as long as it has a hold effect (Rufus/Ken style), I’ll still use it.
If the first hit connects, all of the rest needs to connect. But that’s been established a long time ago…I just don’t believe Capcom would buff mighty Guile that much
I mean, he’s already overpowered…looking at the way Capcom treats him
