i feel you man, i used to ganme for hours a day back on my neo geo and snes. even on the ps2 i had some good times. but when the 3shitty and bstripple got released, everything went downhill. i got qualityy titles, but i just dot have the urge to play anymore. i find this is mainly to blame that theres no games like in the old days that just hypnotize you by being soo damn good that you have to play it no matter what. man i got uncharted 2, demon souls, yakuza 3, valkyria chronicles, gow 1,2&3 and other good titles i cant remember right now (mw2… and some others). i just dont feel like playing.

i just played through the remake of persona 3 and i totally agree with you, that game dragged alot longer than it had to, and for a few months in that game i had absolutely nothing to do but grind levels and stats, which even then at that point wasn’t necessary
fortunately persona 4 shortened the calendar and it took that huge chunk of nothing out of the game, the pacing is a little better, but it’s still somewhat of a problem
as for the main topic i think it’s more important to criticique the games that you love rather than the games you hate. there seems to be a lot of defensive flaming and trolling and that’s not really the answer here.
There has never been a point in time where good games being released outnumbered the bad. This holds true for every form of media throughout time.

Fewer and fewer good ones. I find these days that graphics is the most important thing to developers, second being how much like an already successful game you can make yours without being too obvious. Good gameplay and originality and waaaayyy down at the bottom of the list.
This and pretty much this. Niggas need to go back through the NES roms and see all the garbage that was in that sytem. SNES, on the other hand, has a lot of undiscovered talent but plenty of garbage.

at least there where quality titles coming out back then. the amount of quality titles released every year was way higher than what we got nowadays. i have yet to find a single REAL quality title that just makes me want to forget all other shit and just play the damn game. name me 1 great game on any of the next gen systems? decent to pretty good ones, sure. great ones? nah.

Gonna have to disagree on that whole quality issue. The standard bar has been raised considerably this generation because of that to the point that people are actually reluctant to spend money on a ‘good’ title and instead wait to spend money on the ‘great’ title. Loads of good/solid games have come out this generation that have been just slept on for the other higher profile releases.

i disagree. This gen could have been STELLAR. Instead it was like “look what we can do” round 2, with Sony and MS. Sony shot themselves in the foot by having like 3 games and copying the Wii 5 years too late. Wii was a great idea with fucking terrible specs. And MS decided to make a shitty console that catches fire if you stare at it too long, then make controllers that need replacing like 4 times a year, and decided to rape companies by charging them ridiculous fees everytime they want to post DLC, or even PATCH THERE GAMES (this has been stated by many companies to be a hinderance…case in point, compare Team Fortress 2 on pc to 360…not even the same game anymore).
I kept thinking Halo 3 would be insanity. It was still hella good, but fuck…I was expecting full mods and maps coming every month, rather than some sort of online service that seemed out of the 80’s. And lets not get into the fact that Canada got raped in this whole generation due to paying high Live fees but getting like zero content (still getting shafted compared to america).

In any case everytime I hear someone saying this generation of games has sucked I’m wondering if I’m the one that in the Twilight Zone and I’m missing something. This Gen has definitely had it’s fair share of let downs as you’ve stated earlier (599 US Dollars, The shittiest hardware crafted, and wagglan out the ass) I’d say games in general have actually been pretty solid. Take note this is coming from someone who generally will play just about anything save for mostly sports titles…I like variety. Personally I wish I had more money and more time to buy a lot of the stuff that has come out this generation. If you’re going to rag on this generation for just being PS2 and Xbox with prettier graphics then I could easily say the GC, PS2, and Xbox era was just N64, PS1 and Dreamcast with prettier graphics. This is actually one of the reasons that motion controls came about in the first place to try to breath more life into the game industry instead of doing the same old graphics update.

The only thing I can say that I’ve been truly disappointed with is the over abundance of FPS…and I’m not saying that they’re bad either I just feel like it’s like the ‘go to’ genre at this point whenever someone wants to make a game…especially western developers.
Not really, if one ignore the hardware improvement and graphic, but just how good/fun a game is, SNES, PS1, hell even NES era are head and shoulders above current gen as a whole. Current gen have 1 strong point, online multi-player, ( PC gaming had that for a long time already.)
SNES is awesome, lots of ‘hall of frame’ title so to speak. Younger RPG player please research JRPG made by Square Soft and Enix from this era, those are what true great jrpg is, not the current weird hybrid called FFXIII and alike.
PS1 era is 2D to 3D, games are great , 3D gaming become practical and the devs have a lot of new ideas for it. A break through for console gaming. RIP 3DO!
PS1-PS2, big jump in hardware-wise, console able to match arcade’s hardware also pretty big, many great games were made (PS2 still have good games coming out nowadays btw) and fresh idea are still around until…somehow many devs just focus on graphics/va etc and put gameplay, creativity in the back…more devs keep walking down this path and we have the:
Current gen, sure we got great games now but imo the game development as a whole are just stalling. Muses are dead for most devs…
Photo realistic graphic, HD detailed 3D model, top talented voice actors etc, those are great but they could only carry the games so far.
Might sounded depressing but I have hope that gaming is going to be better.

It sounds like you’re talking about ‘milestone’ titles. There hasn’t really been as many games in that respect imo if you’re going to go there. Usually you can’t really tell if a game will end up being a milestone title until at least 5 years out or more. Seeing as how this generation is supposed to last for another 4-5 years (at least on the 360/PS3 side). I can’t honestly say that most NES titles hold up to the standards of gaming today. Like someone said earlier I’m sure if I played a good chunk of NES games then would break my Nostagia goggles easily now.
As for PS2 still having good games coming out…O.o? I’m certain the last solid game that isn’t a sports title to come out on PS2 was Sakura Wars. If there’s something else coming out that’s going to be good (besides a sports title) then please tell me what it is…I’m curious.
