Capcom Responds To BBB Complaints: No Distinction Between DLC And Disc-Locked Content

I am a little shaken by how Capcom has responded to this claim: Offering a 30% off coupon to the Capcom store…

I’m just upset that I can’t play online with my buddies when they come over. ):

you forgot to add that we got BBCSII for free

To protect all gamers from exploitation!
To unite all gamers with our nation!
To eliminate 1st-day DLC!
To expose all cash-grabs that we see!

Ca$hcom

If $60 and another $20 half a year later is a strain on your wallet because times are tough, you have bigger problems than not having dlc to play with.

Seriously.

The people that make these games are a business too. Most of the complaints here are blind sided IMO.

These are still optional side purchases you can make as far as dlc goes.

the main issue I have with SFxTK is the fact there are 12 characters which I want to play with but have to pay extra for. It is a fundamental part of the game and is a disadvantage to those who dont pay for those extra characters. Sure I would understand paying for extra costumes, levels, colours etc i.e. SUPERFICIAL things which dont really effect the main portion of the game.

But TWELEVE extra characters? GTFO with that shit.

Even so, I dont know what the price of an average ps3 game is ($40-60?), but I wouldnt mind pying an extra $20 for EVERYTHING unlocked, AT THE START, for the SAKE OF CONVENIENCE.

I dont want to pay $40, and then pay for shit in drips and drabs… $2 here, $5 there… wth, NO! just give me the full game, with everything unlocked even if its at a slightly higher price.

Oh yes, the large balance patch. No one has ever released one of those for free before. Oh wait, Capcom did with SSF4:AE2012.

Cs2 is shift extend? Or no?

You don’t get it. It’s not the the price that is bothering everyone. It’s the fact that they locked away finished content to try to pull more money away from you when it’s already on the disc.

When someone gives you something with parts missing and expects you to pay more for whatever is missing then that’s not good.

When you buy a baby stroller with all the safety features stripped from it and you had to pay additional money to get them, of course you would for the safety of your child. Capcom is doing the same thing, they’re exploiting a lot of things to try to get money out of you.

The content is already on the disc.

I hope you guys defending on capcom’s behalf would soon to realize what they’re doing.

One of these day’s those who are defending capcom will hate them once they do something stupid.

At the rate they’re going, it will probably be soon.

Problem is that I love SF4, I love SFxT and I love UMVC3. If Capcom wants to milk extra 30$ from me they will because I’m willing to pay that for this product. If I pay 100$ for SFxT but play it 10 hours a week for a year then I paid 100$ for 520+ hours of entertainment. To me that’s a good deal. I pay 50$ for Dead Space and that will give me maybe 40 hours if I want to replay it for some reason.

Extend was the update after CS2.

I don’t think you get it. Capcom is doing the same thing as everyone else. They are withholding finished product (DLC) in order to charge you for it later. It doesn’t matter where the product is stored; that shouldn’t even be a debate.

Come on people,

A majority of us are not even mad we have to pay for it.
Also not even mad its DLC on Disc.

BUT the fact that the characters are practically already done BUT we have to wait months before playing them. Or wait until Vita or whatever.

I bet if they released them as Day 1 Launch DLC an still had to pay for them people wound’nt be as mad as they still are now.

Its just the fact that in your gut you know the fucking characters are done & already on the DISC and we gotta wait months until there unlocked to play ON THE DISC.

At the rate things are going distribution will be made digital only and I can only imagine what exciting DLC plans are waiting for us.

Personally I don’t have a problem with DLC (don’t like it, don’t buy it) but they way the handled lack of coop play on 360 is appalling.

oh, you mean the one that can be only accesed if you buy their previous update that you have to pay for the other chars, even if you dont want to play any of them?

I really, really, really wish Preppy would talk about the role of the End User License Agreement and its role in software and now with console gaming.

That’s a whole fascinating arena of discussion, but I don’t think it necessarily strongly correlates to this. I think you’ve had the general thesis here behind disc-locked content (also DLC) explained in this thread and pointedly confirmed via public Capcom commentary repeatedly. The EULA kinda further just binds those agreements in place, but I don’t know what Capcom says in theirs that would be of interest.

A: Capcom doesn’t have unlimited money.
B: The quality of what they produce, and what they can produce, is directly tied to the budget that they have.
C: If they can get more dollars from you, those dollars are going into the game.

When you consider the number of people that think that they own the contents inside of the disk as opposed to having very strange lease that you only have to pay once for, then the need for explaining EULA’s to people becomes more of a necessity. Honestly I kinda wish that Ultradavid or anybody would explaining what legally happens when you buy a video game as opposed to what a lot of people think happens when you buy a video game. Either that or we need a good lawsuit or two to set some sort of precedent.

I want to say that the Apple lawsuit on jailbreaking sets somewhat of a precedent towards gaming but it isn’t what I studied so at best its like armchair “wanna be applicant to law school” as opposed to full armchair lawyer.

As an interesting aside, my friend likes to compare the DLC issue to music CD’s where (if I understand it properly) you DO own the content you paid for (that’s why its legal to copy it and play it in various non-commercial ways). My impression is that software licensing is the opposite, to the point where they can actually pull your access to the content if they really want to.
