And why should I play this “almost perfect” port over the others? I don’t have to play this shit, it’s not what I thought I purchased.
So completely illogical reasoning then? People are leaving 3soe for inferior ports. If the reasoning they are leaving is “it isn’t arcade perfect” then they shouldn’t bother with emulation or PS2 as those are not perfect and are inferior to 3soe.
If you are saying they are going back to inferior ports because 3soe failed to deliver (but still superior than previous ports) then the reason has more to do with spite.
Is it really more arcade perfect than the emulator? Other than input timing, what else is “wrong” with emulator?

There is nothing wrong with ex moves in 3soe. Remember that thread that you started where reputable players confirmed they have no problems with ex moves?
Yet somehow something like 95% of the players on SRK were fine with playing DC and PS2 for 10 years (and the DC port was actually TERRIBLE and had serious input lag offline). People here are acting like they played arcade for all their lives when most of them probably haven’t ever seen a 3s cab. The best local players here (guys like Gunfight, Marko, Tome, etc) all practice on OE and are all doing fine at the arcade. Personally I consider myself as one of the worst 3s purists, I’ve been playing since 2000 and have spent tons of money at the arcade, made a lot of trips to Japan just to play arcade 3s against good competition (yeah I know that’s nuts). I should probably be the first person in line to bitch about the game and I agree that OE is definitely not perfect, but I really don’t think it’s as bad as all the complaining made it look.
I completely agree that Capcom messed up with promises they couldn’t keep. If you look at his interviews carefully I remember that Derek Neal guy changing his tune from “arcade perfect” to “most arcade perfect version” at some point before the release, so I think he realized he made a mistake when they started marketing the game. Someone probably warned him. They made a lot of bad decisions with OE overall (DLC is another big one), but it really was our only chance to make people give a fuck about 3s again and revive the scene a bit. It’s cool if you’d rather play EMU than console but good luck growing a competitive scene using that.
But some of the same people bitching about OE are super happy to buy games like MvC3 or KOF13 at full price even though they’re completely unplayable online. You guys don’t think a decent port of 3s on current hardware is worth 12$ (or even 6$ a few days ago IIRC)? I’m probably crazy, but I would’ve paid that for training mode alone. Even for a good player, 12$ at the arcade won’t last you very long…

Okay, so we have 10 pages of bitching. What now? People are quick to chime in, but when it comes to making decisions or taking action, it’s hands off, or every person for themselves.
Those who don’t like OE, and never will, there really is no point for them being here. I sense a salty bitterness emanating from people who don’t feel the game is arcade enough, or are enraged by just how shitacular the online is. There really isn’t anything left to do for them, but move on.
Then there’s the group of casual players who are enjoying the game on it’s own merits. Which is fine, but they don’t want anything changed, since they don’t see a problem with the initial product.
Then you have people like myself, who are somewhat more optimistic. I’ve played kosher 3S before, back when it was cool to do so, and to be honest, I don’t mind playing OE at home for shits and giggles online. I don’t take that seriously. However, being the optimistic person that I am, I would like for some additional patches to at least address the issues discussed here. But I suppose there’s so much back and forth because this isn’t likely to happen. Which is a shame.
Overall I think that the core fans, who followed 3S all these years (for the OGs that’s over a decade! Holy shit!), feel somewhat deceived here, because it’s not the 3S they’ve grown with, and love. It’s a bastardization, that more or less insults skill, as playing online is almost a complete reversal from playing offline. At the same time too, I think it’s a case of “we were all rooting for you!”, letting the core fans down. This game didn’t reignite the scene, or make 3S tournament viable, again. So it’s like a further butthurt I suppose.
Anyway, apologies for the wall of text, mostly just analyzing this situation and trying to figure it out, rather than coming to any concrete conclusions.
Wait, so you’d rather complain about something that might exist (dropped EX inputs, though no one has tested or proven anything and opinion is split) and go back to a version with known speed and input lag problems? At least abandoning OE for going back to the arcade makes sense. You are abandoning a better version of the game for a worse one because it wasn’t advertised properly.
It doesn’t seem universal. There’s people who have chimed in saying they played in arcades for years and are mostly fine with the port. There’s people who stomp guys with Alex all day online complaining about how awful it is. It doesn’t make sense comparing OE’s online play with anything’s offline play, in any case. Of course playing 3S online is going to be nothing like playing it offline, that has nothing to do with OE’s offline play.
Pretty much how I felt. Imperfect ports are imperfect, I tried to make the most of it but shit’s like artificial crab meat. Just because this one taste more like it doesn’t make it real.

Seems like there’s been reasonable arguments on both sides, and there’s been some agreement. You’re just not a part of that because you’d rather be angry all the time. It’s true that I don’t post here often, and truth be told I’m not a super great player. I’ve been playing about a year and have a good ways to go. But I am a fan of the game and I’m always interested in discussing it. That’s the only reason I signed up here in the first place.

-Emulated 3s is not arcade perfect either. Close enough, maybe. Fast gameplay, but it works. I do not want to see IglooBob or any other emulator basher say it has input delay cause thats a PC build issue or your malfuctional controller.
-3SOE/PC GGPO 3S Online ruins the timing in most combos/parrys. Don’t bother playing online if your pc is not close to hign end enough or your connection is unstable. Have fun playing the game offline. At least, you know it works fine this way.

still played on my Dreamcast version until 3SOE dropped and scrounged up my monies for that
I was mad hyped, still on the kool-aid, even bought the unlock Gill/all DIP switches DLC which I had to unlock the hard, painful way back when I was playing on the DC
I saw some stupid shit with bugs and stuff offline and online but I just kept saying that shit’s gonna get patched soon (like with Super Derp Fighter IV: Hong Kong Powered Edition getting the ver. GB update - as in Get Bent)
