Yeah, I read that Revelations sales were about what was expected, but a million copies for a really good RE game released on 5 platforms still sounds pretty low in the grand scheme of things. On that note, there are a couple of takeaways: 1) how much better off would struggling companies be if they kept budgets (at the expense of super sharp graphics) and expectations in check, and 2) making the sort of games vocal hardcore fans want won’t give you huge sales in and of itself (a point sorely missed by most of the gaming forum communities).
I would be perfectly fine with RE: Revelations quality graphics (HD filtered PS2 level) if it meant more releases like the PS2 gen had (where companies could still make profits without selling at least 3 million copies).
When in the fuck was TvC good? I mean yea it has that old capcom flare in terms of characters and sound effects, but the gameplay is stiff and ass man.
Well, I guess I’m a bad guy for liking that decent game.
Trust me when I say that most of SRK would rather play that than MvC3. It looks fun to me and the mechanics are far better than MvC3. I bet if they replace the Marvel 3 mechanics w/ the TvC mechanics, it would be a better game. I would get a copy if they would drop it on XBLA
WHAT THE FUCK? You are telling me a mechanic in which you give up life to STOP what you are doing is worse that a comeback mechanic that **can eliminate a WHOLE F’N TEAM ** with the right plan.
It’s strange. Everytime I wonder if I should have given UMVC3 a chance, some video like that pops up to scare me away. I still can’t believe the very existence of X-Factor. Just… why?
^cuz Ultras in SF4 spawned it. In the most unholy manner.
And the only reason Ultras exist is cuz Ono got a big Blanka hard on for the Daigo vs Wong at Evo comeback occurrence, saw how the crowd went wild, and got the “brilliant” idea of inserting comebacks into every single match. For everyone. No matter how scrubby. Even if its forced and completely artificial.
I’m not even sure the introduction of supers in SF2 was a good idea. sorry, but I’m a footsie purist. imo, footsie=fighters. lol, I’m old school.
edit:
if anything, in this new USF4, they should have done away with 50% damage Ultras 1 & 2 and made everyone rock W Ultra. Just cuz it diminishes Ultra 1/2 your health damage which was always silly + gimmicky to begin with.
edit:
X-Factor is stupid.
And supers in TvC is OP.
SFxT, I don’t even know that game, don’t even care that I am not familiar with it enough to criticize it.
Actually, you’re not even close. The reason Ultras are back is because the president of Dimps is also the same man who came up with Desperation Moves in Fatal Fury and he really doesn’t want to let go of that idea.
I know the whole history. Comeback mechanics are why I dropped both games. It’s just that even with Ultras, HOW do they make such a retarded leap? Seriously, the leap from Ultras to X-Factor is as garish as the leap from eating one slice of pizza a month to a whole pizza every day. It’s kind of a natural progression in the same path, but how the hell do you think that’s a good idea?
