Capcom Going Broke, only $152 mill in the bank

I am quite surprised no one has posted anything about this?

I love the way the COO thinks DLC is the answer:

**The firm now says they plan on going full scale into DLC to make up ground.

“I regret to say that, up to now, we had few plans for the full-scale implementation of DLC.” From here on out, we need to focus on the long-term provision of content starting at the earliest stages of development. Furthermore, in terms of user response, if the additional related content we are providing continually to users online is deemed uninteresting from the start, there will be no ongoing business to pursue. This means that, more than ever before, the creation of underlying content is the key to success.” - COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto**

No Capcom, you don’t listen to your fans. For example we wanted Megaman and you put a fat Megaman into SFxT as your answer?

Yeah $152 mill is a lot of money to you and me but to a game developer that’s close to bankruptcy. With the damage they caused to their reputation I am not surprised. The DLC shit they tried to pull, vanilla -> UMVC3, RE6, the greed etc. To be honest I say go f**k yourself capcom.

Some videos discussing this:

People did post about this…in the Video Game General thread.

Ahh really? Sorry I couldn’t actually find a thread on this.

Capcom, good night sweet prince.

That’s kind of ironic that SNKP was close to bankruptcy before and now it’s Capcom.

Is this even legit? I saw this a week or so ago from a single website, yet no other major sites picked it up when it came right after Capcom’s yearly stock report.

Capcom still makes a killing on Monster Hunter and Sengoku Basara, and they said in their report that they actually turned a profit this year thanks to the surprise success of Dragon’s Dogma.

Makes sense to why some of Capcom’s titles got delayed so that the quarterly figures didn’t look so poor.

It’s a real shame, even with all the controversy do people seriously not care if Capcom files for bankruptcy?
When more and more companies go down the pan, you can only expect to play more and more games like CoD and annual sport franchises.

Bankruptcy won’t necessarily seal its doors. Other companies have made out fine after filing.

You don’t ever get tired of on disc dlc and selling the same games 5 times at full price with only minor “upgrades” in each version?
Gooby pls, Capcom deserves what it gets and shit like EA and Capcom going broke, would be a step in the right direction opening the market for not streamlined games with dlc rip offs plastered all over them.

They have $152 million cash reserve.

They also had $940 million revenue & $31 million profit this year.

DLC is balls.

…just sayin’.

DLCapcom is news? They opened the crazy bags of cats on this DLC bullshit and will milk it to the extreme. My fanboyism with this developer is officially dead. SF was exceeded by Tekken many moons ago in FG realm and capcom seemingly went out of their way to take a massive shit on their DMC franchise, honestly capcom can go under they havent produced anything of worth in a literal console generation.

Die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Capcom isn’t going to die, but they’re gonna change A LOT in the coming years, Breath of Fire VI on mobile phones is just the start.

For every Capcom that goes under there’s at least 4~5 companies that can take their place, there’s mad talent outside of AAA studios.

Companies like NIS/Falcom/PlatinumGames/Comcept/Arc System Works/Marvelous AQL/ATLUS/TecmoKOEI/SpkieChunSoft/VanillaWare/Kadokawa Games/GrassHopper Manufacture/GungHo/CompileHeart/GameArts/GUST and even SNKP to an extent has been making a name for themselves this gen and they’re liable to grow even more coming next gen.

Nintendo/Sony/Bamco are the only big companies I still give a shit about, and to some degree SEGA if they would localize more of there games.

Capcom can suck a fat one for not reviving Onimusha.

I hope EA goes out of business before Capcom because at least Capcom made a ton of great games once. A friend compared SF to Madden, but I said that Capcom really does change things with each iteration for tournament players and hardcores, whereas Madden only changes graphics and rules that the NFL does. Capcom has been ignoring investing in the tournaments for way too freakin long. They should have learned from Blizzard with SC, but they have only recently invested in tournaments. They say they really want to focus on DLC, and thats the worst thing for them to do, theyre not even making the average amount of profit from DLC that other companies make. Hopefully they make Ultra really good, and they start to make their own tournament series like last year, and build up the scene for spectators. Its so glaringly obvious they need to do this and theyll make a ton of money later on.

Capcom can eat dicks and die in a fire, the company has exhausted my patience and has shitted on their consumer fanbase for far too long.

Regardless of whether this news is true or not I realize these guys are now committed to shitting on quality for the long haul. Comeback mechanics, dlc bullshit, canceling big projects, and effectively firing Inafune and treating the company’s flagship character like Dan solely out of spite?

I never thought that I’d be saying this 6 years ago but Fuck Capcom.

So SFxT would be considered as their training round?

Yeah, only thing I’ve bought were old Capcom games… nothing on the current console generation has been worth shit, except for DMC4 but that came out 5 years ago…

Never thought I’d say this, but I’m glad I’ll never see Breath of Fire 6 finished.

This article was posted before Monster Hunter 4 murdered everything in Japan sells wise. They’ll be fine for a little bit.
