Capcom ramping up for next gen consoles by hiring “100 software developers a year”
Mr. Tsujimoto (current CEO at Capcom) also reiterates that Capcom’s future is more games on the mobile front, more dlc, and online focused which will likely include micro-transactions.
Thoughts?
They got big tings planned for the future, wonder if Tsujimoto and son can make a difference. Getting some new blood in ol’ Capcom can do wonders for them now that the majority of their old talent has parted ways with them.
As the internetz has said so many times before…
If Capcom truly thinks that more DLC and microtransactions is the answer to their problems…They just need to die already.
Here’s an official link if anyone is interested in reading more about it. It also says Capcom’s operating income is 80 billion jpy for this fiscal year, so they’re running on around $775,000,000 give or take a few thousand until March of this year.
I like to give credit where credit is due, and capcom isn’t bad in all of their DLC practices, just what they tried to do (which was probably last minute descision) with sfxt and UMvC3.
The way capcom handles DLC with ssf4> almost every other company in this entire generation. That disc from 2010 is getting a downloadable update in June. That’s the way it should be done. No one can talk shit about capcom in the street fighter front, because they handled that extraordinarily well. I hope other companies follow suit.
Yeah, we can say what we want about SFxT, and UMVC3 with pretty much good reason, but the SSF4 stuff is a LOT better than what some companies have been doing with games like say, KI for example.
I pledged my soul to Capcom after playing DMC3 so they’ll probably keep getting my money until the end of time. I can’t be mad at the company that made that. I just can’t.
Capcom is making two new R&D buildings to “Create highly original games” and expand internal development (cutting back on out sourcing projects) and they’re scheduled to be done by January 2015 and February 2016 respectively.
Keep in mind they still want to hire 100 new developers each year, hopefully reaching cough 2,500 cough by March 2022 which is the end of that fiscal year.
As someone in construction…why do they need to build new buildings for this? That in itself is a waste of money. Until things are firmer - RENT space. It’s not like they need anything super special for development.
Not really. It’s ‘cool’ to get a new building, and you can optimize somethings, but the cost of doing that verse renting an existing building or buying an existing building and modifying it to meet your needs - for them just seems like a wiser option. I’d feel different is this was going to be more than R&D, but it’s not. Retrofit an existing building with the appropriate size, it will be quicker, cheaper, and just as functional.
Tencent is already developing Monster Hunter Online for Capcom for the Chinese market. This collaboration could be Capcom loaning out their other franchises to them to appeal to the Chinese market.
