I love how he makes it sound like they are not corrupt but rather incompetent.
Probably fired Jeff Gerstmann over the Kane and Lynch review, for being overqualified for the position.
Jeff Gerstmann explained the Kane and Lynch situation, and it wasn’t as simple or corrupt as him being fired because he gave it a 6 while it’s ads plastered Gamespot. Although that action did play a part in his firing and all the people on the executive board who had a hand in his firing have all been fired themselves
Anyways, anyone who thinks critics are actually handed briefcases of cash in dark alleys while wearing trench coats is retarded. Publishers/developers create an all too friendly atmosphere at press junkets offering entertainment, free plane tickets, food, etc and the corruption is more implied than explicit in most cases. Don’t want to play ball with the big companies? Okay then you miss out on that exclusive interview or preview footage is sent late.
Yeah they find ways around that with the free TV’s as an example I’ve heard of and other things of course instead of direct cash bribes, like any good bribe I’m sure.
EGM got the boot by giving Assassin’s Creed a 6, way back when with the first game, and did their editorial explaining how the advertising was pulled and the anger it caused but they didn’t want to give up their integrity and just give in to the business.
What happens to the online servers when Capcom closes it’s doors? Maybe there could be a crowdfunding campaign to buy the servers from Capcom so their fighting games can be continued to be played online even with the shitty non-GGPO netcode.
Capcom’s only chance at survival is to go small and make games with an indie level budget. Once they put out a game that becomes a huge success they can afford to produce a AAA game. But that won’t happen because the higher-ups at Capcom refuse to momentarily cease their habits of hookers and blow so they’d rather risk their chances of ever being able to have hookers and blow again than to play it smart.
But the servers are used for matchmaking. It’s kind of shitty that they don’t but their fighting games don’t have an option to manually type in an IP address and find another player. Unless Capcom patches the games (which they won’t because there’s no profit incentive), you have to go through Capcom’s servers to play online. PC modders might be able to find a way around it but those who play console exclusive games like Marvel are basically fucked.
Thats cause online gaming is raking in the big bucks in Japan. If anything, the money they can make through that will give them some seed money for console games.
Dead Rising 3 is also selling pretty good so at least Capcom has that going for them for now.
TLDR: All Capcom games in the future will have micro transactions.
Oh we’ll get a proper DMC 5, it’ll probably even continue the story after 2 as a true sequel instead of another prequel…but each move will cost $1.99 or you can grind out 100,000,000 orbs to unlock stinger!
unlock fireballs for ryu in SF5 for the low low price of $4.99!
Get to move and shoot at the same time in RE7 for $14.99
If Strider turns out to be as GDLK as it looks then Capcom is getting my money. Companies with bad business practices and quality products are not always mutally exclusive.
Normally, I’d be with you on supporting good games no matter the publisher. I have a couple of EA and Ubisoft games here or there because they were good… However, Capcom has proven that they do not operate logically.
All that Strider money would just go towards yet another goddamn shitty Street Fighter IV update, or, even worse, Resident Evil 7: Vin Diesel Edition, while they dangle the possibility of a CvS2 online or new Mega Man game like the Last Guardians that they are.
Ugh, if this is the shit they’re doing, then just let them fucking die already. The gaming world doesn’t need shit like this, especially in fighting games…of course, even though it already has it and people are jerking off to it…
I don’t get why Tekken isn’t doing well these days.
Got myself TTT2 couple of days ago and that game shits all over SF4 in terms of presentation and features and I could jump right back into it after not having played Tekken since Tekken 3.
Seems like it doesn’t matter if you make a great game with great features like Tekken or even Skullgirls, if it doesn’t have Ryu in it, it’s gonna lose to Capcom titles, just cuz it’s Capcom.
Yeah, it kinda sucks that it’s like that. I mean hell, TTT2 is the first Tekken I decided to take seriously, and once you get over that initial “oh shit, I have no idea what I’m even supposed to be doing” the game just becomes godlike.
If Strider sells decently expect Capcom to make a supremely shitty 3D reboot and then shut down the studio that made it like they did with Bionic Commando.
Unlike most SRK’ers I usually don’t open my mouth about a game I haven’t played myself, but I’ve seen enough playthroughs of Bionic Commando to see how buggy it is, and those invisible walls everywhere…in a game that emphasizes spiderman-esque freedom of movement as it’s primary hook (are you more ashamed of my cheap pun or the fact that you laughed at it?) why the hell would you make it as restrictive as possible?!
