Oh no you didn’t.
makes some sense as of right now. jab jab jab strong fierce. etc. jab being entirely without any danger AND chains into itself AND can be chained into stronger things into a linked normal for special cancel, super, or just ex it, or for tag in.
the saving grace of this game is that it’s a team game and playing with a human teammate is a blast. trying to share meter efficiently and also be able to give advice while playing is just straight up fun. I don’t think it’s a brilliant game, but I don’t need all games to be a huge commitment. Some times I just want to have fun. If I want to be ‘serious’ I go play 3S on the h2h cab.
this was a well thought out response. I agree, the fear of something new replacing something old that you like can makes people act out. But I think people should understand that there is enough room for lots of fighting games. Each can have their place and still get enough attention. Also, many players, myself included, don’t just play one game. I’ll be playing 4 series and SFxT for the foreseeable future.
@ LoyalSol,
while the concept of touch of death doesn’t seem like its going to be the norm of this game imo, i can see where your coming from and its a legit concern as recently i’ve seen some pretty messed up resets that mite as well be added to that category. however i still believe thats one of the unquie things that set this game apart from SFIV so idk, i lost games because i was at 60% health o_O but thats the nature of this game.
I’m still a firm believer in the throw game in this title, even though its not as strong, it still has its uses. online is actually the place here people still try to abuse them, to me they don’t serve that huge of a role anymore, any character who greatly depends on a knockdown needs that throw, and a character with weak reversals hates throws so there are still reasons to do them, and sometimes its a good tool for pressure or even testing your opponent(seeing if they are sleeping). Personally i’d rather tech a throw and reset the situation then take damage and a mix up.
Oki in this game to me is less brain-dead then it was in SFIV, its a good thing that there are less Option-Selects. OS puts players into a state they dont have to think anymore while the opposing player has most if not all options they had available locked away because of said OS. that kind of thing make the games weak, while having more wake up options gives your more things to think about, and more things you can do when your on the receiving end of the stick. but thats just me think that…everyone is entitled to their own opinion~
To add to my last post, besides SF4:AE 2012, UMvC3, and SFxT, there is also,Blazblue, SC5, KoF13… and coming soon, VF5 final showdown (forconsoles), TTT2, Skull girls, Persona Area (this summer I think?), DOA5 (not sure when but it’s on the horizon), there may be even more as I could be forgetting some but that is off the top of my head. I honestly think that many of these games will be able to exist and thrive w/in the FGC. After the release of SF4 the FGC has only gotten bigger and bigger and bigger. Streams are regularly hitting 15k+ viewers and not even for majors, I think that is amazing.
I don’t hate this game, in a way I do think it’s funny.
The problem is that people aren’t exactly jumping on the game for its own merits, they’re directly comparing the problems they had with SF4 and see that those issues are fixed / not much of an issue in this game at all.
My personal dislike of the game stems with defensive options but that could possibly change over time.
Also I think gems in this game do absolutely nothing for it. Their implimentation is atrocious. Get hit by four specials to activate?
Uh hello? **THE WHOLE POINT OF THE GAME IS NOT TO GET HURT TO BEGIN WITH, WHY THE HELL WOULD I WANT A TOOL THAT ENCOURAGES THAT? **
Too many of the gems are too similar to one another, the vast majority of them are utterly useless. If you could have activated it of your own accord I think that would have been amazing. As it is now they’re just a pain in the ass and too much of a cash cow to bother taking seriously. I don’t want to paint Capcom as some big evil corporation but there’s got to be some body grinning from ear to ear now at the thought of all the tournament organizers in the world having to purchase every god damn gem for their events.
Ah well.
well i have a in depth gem rundown in the Poison thread~ explaining why gems like those exist and such. if not, i tried
The thing is though in most applications even with OSes you still had to think because rarely did one OS cover everything. Often characters had at least one option that would cause your OS to whiff or get beat or against characters with 4 or 5 frame reversals you couldn’t OS off a safe jump because it wouldn’t come out in time. There were only a handful of characters who you could auto pilot OS on.
I actually saw OSes as a method to get people to stop abusing SF4’s wake up options and block. In all previous SF games you didn’t have half the wake up you do in SF4. Then again OSes in 3S and ST were insanely good compared to SF4.
it was more the os that were attached to safe jumps , can’t reversal , can’t backdash , can’t throw , can’t press buttons
okay real talk. Reason why SfxT is a bad game is because they couldn’t get Guile’s sonic boom right. Japanese Guile has hands down the least enthusiastic, dull “SONIC BOOM” since that old SF2 game ._.
edit: NOW you may say I’m trolling.
Because blocking is a bad option?
I think it was the natural progression of things that made it seem this way, as you said, ST and 3S OS were really good, and seem weaker in SFIV. if things keep going that way, things “may” get better and people will break those old habits, but i can also see the problem in that as well…we’ll go right back to square one.
SF4 OSes will never be as good as ST OSes because ST OSes were guaranteed damage. For example the T-Hawk SPD OS SRK OS. In ST grabs were 0 frame whiffs so if you didn’t grab you could OS an action that would respond to the opponents move. For example, if you weren’t grabbed that means you either jumped or reversaled. So you OS T-Hawk Uppercut and for most characters T-Hawk’s reversal would win. If you were one of those poor souls without a better reversal it basically meant you had no way to avoid taking damage once you got to that sitaution.
In 3S we didn’t have the same style of OSes as ST or SF4, instead we had a ton based off parry. There were OSes you could do that would both parry a counter attack while inputting some move. I am not as knowledgeable on those since I was never much of a 3S player, but I know enough 3S veterans who I can take their word for that these moves were strong.
SF4 OSes will never be on the same level because blocking will always stop the OSes from coming out and grabs have whiff animations. The only one that was even close to the same level was Akuma’s Flip Grab OS, but that has since been nerfed.
You guys are wasting your time with this thread.
It’s cool to hate on SFxT right now, and people on SRK so desperately desire to be cool.
A few weeks ago, it was cool to like SFxT, so you saw more posts with optimism and approval.
Then a few months before that is was cool to hate SFxT, so you saw posts like you do now.
Then before that, it was cool to like SFxT, etc. etc. etc.
By the way, this game is fun. If that matters anymore.
no its not , just makes offence braindead , got nothing to worry about
Horse crap. So you block my safe jump, guess what? Now I have to play a ground game.
In fact the hardest players to mix up are the ones who are good at blocking and knowing when to actually throw out a reversal/back dash. Not joking. The easiest ones are the ones who keep pressing buttons and back dashing like idiots.
I doubt anyone who says it is brain dead has actually used it.
This game has a metric ton of serious problems, and I don’t see how turning a blind eye to them helps anybody. It’s not a matter of being cool, there are a lot of legitimate issues, and they should be discussed here, not ignored because “the game is fun.”
yer but are you frame natural? that yes is the best way to deal with it
but reading what your opponent is going to do is part of the game the os removed that , you didn’t need a read , you just did it
Again I can tell immediately who has and hasn’t used OSes by statements like this. Try OSing Bison with practically any character and come back to tell me it was brainless and required no work. As stated before it isn’t common to have a single OS that beats everything a character can do even for a character like Akuma who has some good ones.
Even with OSes you are still required to know your opponents options and be able to read their tendencies.
For example OS Sweep with Akuma against Makoto beats out most of her options, but if she has Ultra 2 OSing sweep can get you killed. The Ultra will cause the jump in to whiff and the sweep to come out right before Makoto activates Ultra. From there she can hit you with the Ultra. Your only hope is to mash U1 out and even then you may not be able to get it out in time or if you don’t have it you are screwed.
OSes do no remove having to make reads. That is a myth that is going around SRK by people who never actually used them. In my case I can only name about 3 characters that have no answer to Akuma’s OSes (Juri, Balrog, and Honda) and I can’t imagine any other character having many more too.
Like I said, the hardest players to mix up are the ones willing to defend. The only people who got blown up by OSes were the ones who refused to block.
Dat sanity.
