Wow, lot of emotions running around about people’s fav character. The only big things that I really disagree with on the marvel side(dont know enough about all of capcom) is Taskmaster, Nova and possibly RR. Captain America himself has said that Taskmaster was one of the biggest threats to the Avengers. It took the force of the Avengers to bring him down when they were losing to him 1v1. He has photographic reflexes that allow him to counter almost anyones attacks so certainly he cant kill someone like wolverine but what is to stop him from eventually beating wolvie, sticking him in a sack and burying him underground or something. Taskmaster is not beating galactus or strange but as far as anyone on earth throwing punches, he is going to give them a run for their money so I would have put him up near the top of Earth’s Heroes. Sure hes got problems with his memory but show him his mask and weapons and he knows just what to do.
Nova is another one who is way lower than he should be. All of those galactic threats that people have been talking about that top their tier lists, Nova fights them. I think his story is kind of boring but dude gets that job done and has saved existence more than once. Same with Rocket, he fights these same folk but he does it on a team so that doesnt help his ranking in a fighting game but Rocket is one hell of a strategist and has tricked some huge cosmic forces allowing his team to win. Plus, he talks shit, carries*** unfeasibly ***large cannons and usually enough explosives to blow up whatever planet or space station he is on right before escaping. Plus I mean come on, he has a jetpack.
Edit: Also all of this talk about Ammy has me confused. I never played the game so I have no clue about the story but if s/he has the power of the sun and the sun is a star(take my word, it is) than there are a handful of people that can sneaze a star out of existence so I dont know how far sun power really gets you.
well ammy is literally the sun god, and throughout the time of the game she (re)gains powers from other sort of gods including wind, ice, lightning along with her celestial brush strokes allowing her to create bombs and chop heads off of stuff. she can also change day to night at a whim (not sure if that would be moving the sun or literally spinning the whole earth) and im pretty sure she can increase the power of it as well. she just needs people to BELIEVE she is the ultimate god and she becomes it basically.
she is basically the god of all the other gods, in her final form, (which unfortunately is NOT the one featured in MvC3, she is immensely powerful. im actually kind of disappointed that she doesnt get any of her higher tier weapons only the most basic forms of each one.
Bah, who cares about science? Dis’ is Mahvel we talkin’ 'bout.
But on the real though, Spidey’s webbing is only one aspect of his mobility. You’re still heavily discrediting his natural ability to dodge and evade by simply moving around. If Spider-Man and Wolverine are going to be fighting each other head on, Spider-Man is not going to let Wolverine lunge at him with his sharp pointy claws. His spider sense will warn him, his eyes will warn him, his common sense will warn him, and he will dodge. Simple as that. And you’re also assuming that in order for Spider-Man to hurt Wolverine that he’d have to punch through his skeleton. That’s not the case at all. Wolverine can be knocked out like any other human can. As long as the force of the punch is enough to rattle that brain of his (assuming Spidey’s going for a head shot) then Wolverine’s going down. A super powered, webbed up punch to the head is definitely enough to put him down. And then there’s the option of throwing something. And what if Spidey doesn’t feel like throwing punches? Like you said, that limits his webbing advantage, well, there’s tons of things Spidey can do with that web advantage, like sling large objects at Wolverine for the knock out. Cars on average weigh about 2 tons, so that’s well within range for Spidey to throw. Like both of us said, it’s really a toss up fight all boiling down to who hits who first, but from the way I see it, Spider-Man has a much higher likelihood of getting that hit with all the options he has. I just don’t see Wolverine berserker barraging through this one.
Now before going any further, it should be pointed out again that one on one fights are not the best way for putting together tier lists. I’m all for debating between Spidey and Wolvie until the cows come home, get milked, and go away again, but that’s not really the purpose of this thread in particular. Looking at the Marvel universe as a whole, particularly the street level aspect of things, how do you think Wolverine and Spider-Man would fair. If you exchanged their rogue gallery, do you think one would have an easier time with the villains they’ve been facing than the other? How about slightly bigger threats? Which of the two would last longer, or do more damage against them.
As stated before. Wolvie has taken a headshot from the Hulk/Juggernaut and still stood up. Spider-man has spider-sense sure, but there have been several opponents far less skilled then Wolvie who were able to land clean hits on Spider-man. The two times Spidey and Wolvie fought yielded the following results. 1) draw. 2) Spider-man going to hospital from being stabbed by Wolvie. Going by the record, Wolvie is undefeated. But I guess we can agree though that it’s a toss up.
Going vs other threats, I agree that Spidey’s toolset gives him the advantage vs a larger variety of foes. Wolverine is fairly one-dimensional in terms of what he can do. I think Spidey can fight Hulk better and Magneto obviously (though he still loses both matches). Hulk can actually take everything Wolvie can dish out. Spider-man can dodge Hulks attacks easier then he can Wolvies due to Hulks lack of martial arts training. Any of the characters who utilize beams/long range attacks, Spidey should have an easier time with then Wolvie though. Wolverine would have trouble vs flyers. There’s really nothing he can do vs them without Colossus giving him a fastball special.
Hold up now, Wolverine is definitely not undefeated. Ha ha, no sir, not at all. The last time Wolverine took a head shot from the Hulk, he was left drooling and his eyes rolling to the back of his head. Yeah, he got back up, but it definitely wasn’t instant or even in the middle of the fight. It takes time for that healing factor to kick in against big name threats like that, same with Juggernaut. And Spidey and Wolvie have fought a lot more than two times. The other times yielded pretty favorable results for Spider-Man. Off the top of my head, there was the time Spidey didn’t wanna fight, so he pretty much webbed Wolvies hands to his head. Then there was the time back in the Secret Wars when he took on all of the X-Men and made them look like they were running around silly. There was also the time they were in Stark Tower or something, and Spidey knocked Wolvie out of the supposedly “unbreakable” window. Wolverine is definitely not undefeated. I’d say those were all pretty favorable wins for the wall crawler, but again, this isn’t a one on one fight we’re supposed to be debating.
Concerning the spider sense in general, it’s a lot like the healing factor in terms of how good it is. There are occasions when writers completely ignore that it’s there for the sake of the plot, and there are occasions where writers realize it’s there, but make up some bull about how it’s not working right. That’s the part that we as readers sift through. Spider-Man getting tagged by common street thugs isn’t something that’s supposed to happen, just like Wolverine regenerating from his body being destroyed to the bone isn’t either, but at the same time, if the characters were written as always being on their A-Game, then you’d get one page comic book fights, and that’s no fun for anyone.
Alright, that’s good. I pretty much feel the same way in that respect. Any certain matchups Wolverine fairs a heck of a lot better in that you can think of?
With the way Spider Island is going, I’m pretty certain he’ll get it back by the end. But concerning this thread, I’m pretty sure we’re going by what’s in the game, and considering Spider-Man mentions that his sense is tingling at the start of the match, it’s safe to assume he has it. Much like how Doctor Strange looks to be Sorcerer Supreme in the game, too.
Not too many now that I think about it. Vs Spider-man’s rogue gallery, probably Lizard and Kraven. In terms of UMvC3 characters, maybe Captain America. It could be just plot armor, but if I remember correctly, Spidey, was getting pummelled by Cap A during the Civil War storyline. Spidey commented that it was cause Cap A was able to read/predict movements, thanks to Cap A’s martial arts expertise. Spidey was able to fight back after bringing out the Iron Spidey armor stingers which Cap A never saw before. Cap A may have a little more trouble reading Wolvie as Wolvie is just as skilled in terms of fighting ability as Cap. Cap A has so much plot armor that it’s tough to tier him IMO.
She’s a Class B+ Darkstalker, which is as powerful as a strong demon warrior. She hunts demons and the like and has mystical powers. She’s powerful compared to most of the Capcom side, but nowhere near Morrigan or Ammy and below Zero/Dante (can this guy even die? Or would he just be corrupted? Someone educate me on DMC knowledge, please). Capcom needs to explore some of the DS characters’ powers so we can actually get a little taste of what we’re using.
The Hsien Ko you see in the games isn’t her full strength. Her sister as the warding seal is limiting her powers significantly, though if this limiting was lost Hsien Ko would also lose control of herself and probably become a voracious monster.
Ah, yeah, forgot about that. Hence her plowing through everything in Rimoukon. With any luck, her anger is fermenting while sitting on the sidelines getting ready to be called for the next Pendulum assist.
Again, tho, all of that is all Earth-based. It’s odd to “tier” the wolf because her legend/mythology comes from the assumption that Earth is all there is in the universe regarding mortals.
She uses all 3 of the highest tier weapons in her level 3 tho. I did like that bit of fanservice.
Oh his heart was in the fight for sure. It was actually Captain America who made the peace offering, and Spider-man turned it down and initiated the fight. That doesn’t happen if your heart isn’t in it. Staring at the issue right now. It was actually a pretty good fight scene. 8 pages long.
