I played some matches with Jr rodriguez

I already know that in the beginning I did a random ultra but I didn’t know what to do. I wonder whats wrong besides the fact I suck
Well the random ultra at the beginning after you missed the perfect opportunity to punish him was one mistake. Going for FADC when he had ultra or super up is another bad idea, that is probably the sole reason you even got hit by them as at any other time its so easy to avoid Akuma’s ultra/super I consider it near useless.
Also you were falling for the wakeup DP almost everytime. Also remember as fun as ex hooligan is you can’t grab a crouching opponent as stupid as that is.
My observations:
- too much backdashing: You ate a few demons because of it. You want to get in on Akuma and inflict massive damage. He’s trying to keep you out; don’t help him.
- reliance on ex. hooligan: Maybe throw out one for a surprise, but don’t use them too often. You started getting punished for them.
- random jumping: walk in closer instead of trying to jump in. same on knockdown as well. you ate quite a few uppercuts and a demon.
- i’ve never seen so many landed demons
How do you got hit by so many ultra/super? lol Other than off a FA, you shouldn’t get hit by Akuma’s ultra. Maybe one or two times, after the second time, you should learn.
Learn how to finish off combo(c.lk, c.lp, c.lk, SA), after he missed shoryuken, you can HP–> CS, or c.MK–> SA. After he teleport to you can c.MK–>SA
There are too many combo opportunities that you didn’t take advantage of. Free damage is free. This means you will win couple more rounds in that fight.
Dam your so right, why didnt i think off that.
After applying ur tips i felt like i instantly improved my game, beeing able to hit con firm better, mix up,…
thanks
Well, I’m far from the best Cammy player, but I’d like to toss in my 2 cents.
That Akuma was very agro and VERY jumpy. A few good Cannon Spikes could’ve slowed his roll and gave you some breathing room. He was jumping a lot on your wakeup too. Don’t forget Cammy has a DP too, just be smart with it.
Don’t go for the C.Strike so much on oki, ESPECIALLY if you haven’t conditioned your opponent into blocking/teching on wakeup. C.Strike is awesome oki, but it’s not your only option.
Against run-away Akumas I tend to SA under air-fireballs if I don’t feel I’m being baited, but I’m aware that it’s pretty scrubby and prolly won’t work when I hit a higher level of play.
OKI? :wtf:
Oki is short for okizeme, which basically means wakeup game.
Who says I don’t learn something new everyday lol.
Yet another bit of fun trivia that gets stuck in my head.
thank you, you guys I greatly appreciate the critiques
*sigh, I’ma suck
So here’s me sparing against a Bison, who beat me 19-2. I got the last 3 matches recorded…

So I noticed I do a few scrub moves real quick, abusing the Spiral Arrow like it’s a fireball, and the wake up Cannon Spike.
You didn’t do too horrible. A bison smart enough to abuse lk sccisors a very safe move is usually not that easy to beat I find, most of them that I find online try and abuse the headstomp. Standing hk makes it hard for jump ins to work on him as well.
But 19-2? I can’t really think of a way to beat a good Bison like that. The 2 victories I had were because of gimmicks. The first victory I abused the M. Punch, and got a lot of free hits etc in. The other one I used a lot of TKCS oh his wake up. I only won because I had a different play style that was far different from the previous 5 to 10 battles.
Don’t get frustrated, you just have alot to work on is all. #1 you need to develop a ground game. the BnB’s are ESSENTIAL! when you get in close, c.lk x2 to cannon strike will not cut it. if you watch your replay he was sittin on it and kept s.rh’n you everytime. c.lk~lp~lk xxSA is what you need to work on. After that you need to work on your spacing when your on the offensive. Know when to use this combo and know when u need to shortened it to c.lp~lk xxSA or to just c.lk xx SA.
Develop a game plan. Stop throwing random stuff out hoping it interrupts his moves and be patient. Get him on the defensive and then poke to annoy him. If you notice with your button presses, the more you blocked, the more annoyed you got right? well its a two way street. When you apply constant pressure and keep an opponent uncomfortable is when you draw mistakes out of them. The problem is if your continuously poking randomly when they make a desperate move it’ll hit you because your playing out of control. Just like when you got ultra’d stickin that foot out. You knew it was way to far away but cammy was driving not you lol.
Learn to block comfortably. You block out of neccessity and constantly are spamming moves trying to break through his blockstring. Just block it and stand your ground or back out and try to reestablish contact more in your favor than his.
Cammy is a hunter, and all hunters stalk their prey, they just dont go running and screaming through the woods shooting in all directions at random moments in time.
Learn to understand your opponents wake up options. Bison can headstomp, scissor kick pyscho crusher and teleport on wakeup. His safest moves would prolly be teleport first ex pyscho 2nd and prolly ex scissors 3rd. Take notice to his tendencies which does he do? Does he even do all of his wake up options?. If he teleports is it only when he’s in a corner to get out? or is it all the time? does he have a favorite side to teleport on.
Start seeing the fight instead of just doing your routine button presses. You cannon strike alot when out of position, couple random cannon spike misses when you were across the screen, one time you hooligan and he ex headstomped and you tried to grab :(.
Learn how to backdash on wakeup. It stops you from dealing with alotta issues. You can be hit if they do a move that makes them go forward, but it goes through alotta of standing pokes, and grabs miss.
Man, I feel so much for that whiffed throw around 4:40. That (c.strike>tick throw>whiff for some reason) happens to me entirely too much.
Your opponent seemed to eat most of the CStrikes you tossed out (especially the Cross-ups which must’ve sucked for him, killing his charge). Your Cammy looks pretty good in general, in this case, I think the first few losses just got you discouraged. I know that happens to me quite a lot.
As a side note, when in doubt against Bison I just cross-up. All of his charges move forward, so most of his moves will whiff, and if he doesn’t act, he will haves too a) block high and lose ALL of his charges, or b) take the cross-up and whatever footsie/TKCS bullshite you wanna do after words. Of course, my track record is this match is kinda lackluster too…
hey, I don’t really play cammy, but I noticed a two things from our matches last night.
-
s.hk
I think cammy’s cannon strike is a great pressure and crossup tool. But after the first 3 matches or so you were getting really predictable with the CS. That’s why I kept on catching you with s.hk during your poke strings. I knew you were going to jump sooner or later for CS, and the s.hk would be there waiting. The way around this is mixing-in low poking(c.mk), as nearly all low pokes in the game beats bison’s s.hk clean. -
approach
I noticed you had 2 main methods of approach: shallow jump-ins and spaced SA. Both of which lands you in a bad position. I think you could have gotten in a better if you spaced your jumps so that you land deep, and possibly crossup with CS, and continue with shenanigans. Bison cannot handle being pressured and have to teleport or spend meter to gtfo. -
oki
quite a few times you caught me with SA but couldn’t pressure on my wakeup. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with bison’s wakeup options, but here they are: -
EX stomp (very risky, defeated by walking forward and early crossups)
-
EX DR (safest option, get stuffed by neutral jump whatever)
-
EX scissors (only good for escaping crossups)
-
EX PC (this is bison’s shoryuken! But you can tag him in the tail with a crossup)
-
teleport (doesn’t work in corners)
anyways, keep it up and don’t be discouraged. We’ll spar again sometimes
My turn. Sabrerockaway recorded a couple matches today so I finally get to show off my scrubtastic Cammy.

Kinda grainy, but you can still get the general idea. Of note is a glitch at the end of round 1 vs Gen, where Gen can basically “Ultra-Parry” Cammy’s ultra.
So what do you think? I know I’m making a lot of mistakes (especially random Ultra…) Critisim is welcome!
You play a pretty sweet Cammy. I’ve yet to start my own SFIV Cammy, I’m still hooked on HD Remix (I dig your Front Kick > FADC back > Ultra. Nice!)
Everyone, thanks for your input. I wasn’t discouraged, at least I don’t think I was… I do, however, consider quitting when I loose to scrub Kens and Sagats multiple times in one sitting… :-/
I did notice how often I do a Cstrike, and I’m starting to believe the move is a waste of effort. Tk, I’ll use and abuse, but jump in CS I’ve realized is a free hit/combo for my opponent. I wanted to cry when a Ken FA lvl 2 my jump in Cstrike into Ultra, TWICE IN ONE ROUND D-;
Thanks zeno, I do want to spar some more with you, but maybe a little bit later. I need to… I dunno, somehow apply everything into my game. I at least thought I was good at the oki game, but I’ve lost a lot confidence. Maybe just bad experiences eating random scissor and wake up ultras.
Sory Power, I saw most of the first vid, kinda choppy, so It was hard for me to really see what was going on. I’ll try and study it a little more though!
Just to add my own experiences (you may relate, though this is from HD Remix but I could see it still applying): Cammy is a low-tier character. She has tools to win some big matches, but her weaknesses mean that you may be misfortunate more than fortunate. I’ve also lost some matches to people who I thought were definitely not that great; on the flipside, I’ve won matches against some of the best players. But I realized that my losses to the “scrubs” (I dislike this term, we shouldn’t criticize players for not being good) just meant that I needed to pactice more - much more. She’s a really bad character, man - you’re 'gonna go through some heartbreak. But she’s fun as hell to use! Just keep at it.
