Cammy Match-Up Thread Index

i personally would use s.mp, c.mp > s.hp for whiff punishing against birdie, just because it’s hard to punish itself, and for whatever reason seems to work better against s.mp and s.mk which are the two buttons birdie’s prob using the most.

EX CS sets up a nasty mix-up against Birdie, since Cammy’s at point-blank, +1, and Birdie has no 3f normals. It’s also Cammy’s only “cheap” way of getting in against Birdie - I base the match-up around this tool.

I play the Birdie matchup primarily by counter-poking - as a couple of other people have mentioned, eating a s.mp xx bull head for a whiffed s.mk seems like way too much. I fish for an in by whiff punishing, and once birdie is knocked down, it’s really lights-out. He has more trouble dealing w/ Cammy’s pressure than pretty much any other character in the game.

By the time I get pushed out again, I’ve usually built up a bar for EX CS, which gives Cammy an edge in neutral. It’s going to make Birdie more scared to press buttons, since any time he does I might hop over it and get inside. Depending on how the Birdie plays, I can either a) start bullying him more if he clams up, and find opportunities to dash in, harass w/ s.mk, etc. or b) if he doesn’t adjust and keeps poking, I find the right spot for EX CS, and throw him in the blender.

I don’t think it’s an easy matchup, but I do think that if you have the right strategy and stick to it, it’s going to be just as (if not more) frustrating for the Birdie as it is for you.

Is ex-divekick at least +1?

i believe it is always precisely +1 on block. i have had some strange situations where i counter-hit cammy’s reversal c.lp (3f) with s.lk (4f), but i’m not really sure why, and can’t get it consistent - so it may be +2 sometimes, but is always at least +1.

I’m going to make specific match-up threads like they have over in the Dhalsim forums. If you guys like don’t them, feel free to have a mod or admin delete them.

I think having separate match-up threads will be the best way to have these discussions and to find information we need.

I suggest you get in touch with @jchensor via PMs before doing anything like this.

Will do.

So do i just make laura come to me? Should i just stay out of grab range at all costs? I have no clue whay to do against her besides just hang out at full screen and do nothing…or approach and eventually get mixed up and grabbed

Keep her out at all cost. stmk, crhp, crmk, and if u knock her down apply pressure but watch out for her EX qcf since it has armor

What should we be doing vs FANG? I feel like the matchup shouldn’t be hard. I just don’t even know how to approach it.

I’d like to know as well. I feel like he is just allowed to press whatever button he wants and there is nothing I can do about it. And I just can’t stop him from setting up a defense.

Yup yup.

Also, any advice on how to play vs solid Ryus would be great. That character’s damage output is ridiculous.

Really, you just have to be more solid. Play it slow and don’t try a bunch of gimmicks. Try to limit his movement with your st.MK/cr.MK and maintain a healthy distance. Never let him jump in with you back MP or dp. Also, if you have V-Trigger, you can punish a Hadouken from full screen on reaction every time. You can follow that up with dp or super.

Fang sthk is +1 on block and since he doesnt have a 3f normal you can challenge him every time with crjab, worst case scenario you trade and he loses momentum. There is a way for fang to get around this,i wont go into much detail, but its rly hard to do and its effectively corner only.

Fang is +2 after crmk or coward crouch kick on block, dont try to challenge him here.

Cammy has the advantage of being the only(?) Character in the roster able to punish lk ryubenda on block meterless with reversal spiral arrow/dp,dont let him get away with it (for reference only chun/necalli/cammy super can punish this otherwise iirc). Use mk sa,be wary that just like his lunge he can space it safe at tip range.

Always quickrise after a non cc sweep and throws, fang gets worse oki this way (he can still set up meaties after backthrow/non cc sweep).Do not dp on wakeup after getting hit by a cc sweep you will get blown up.

Speaking of getting blown up,fangs damage is low,but his stun output isnt,if he has 2 bars and vt stocked he gets 666 stun off of a crush counter which ofc doesnt mix well with cammys 900 stun

Be wary of getting cornered even if it doesnt look that way fang gets retarded pressure there

When cammy gets 1 meter it gets rly hard for fang, ex sa on reaction blows up traps, but the biggest advantage cammy gets is from tk ex dive. Generally its hard to react in time to jab her out of it,fangs tall hurtbox makes this even worse. Fang has to preemptively jab (crhp too slow, stmk can only aa on the 2nd hit=too slow, crmk trades more often than not) ,reaction jab trades with the divekick but fang gets knocked down while cammy doesnt,on slow/quickrise fang gets up with cammy in his face, backroll gets him cornered. Not a good look for him.

Dont try to hooligan or vskill over/through traps, fang will have charge meaning he beats both, nvm that he can combo you from the trap hitstun if you try to vskill through it and miss it

Respect his stmp in neutral it outranges both crmk and stmk,it actually high profiles crmk too.

After combos into lunge he gets meaty pressure with slide

Always use the throw os on his wakeup

If you get comboed into super near the/in the corner watch out what combo he used,if he cancelled into super from lunge he only gets meaty coward crouch,if he cancelled from lk trap (there is another setup for this too iirc) he gets nasty setups, just block here

Dont try to jump crossup him in neutral, his crhp hitbox is really good. If you get anti aired with crhp always quickrise, otherwise crhp (1 hit) cancelled to hk trap puts you in a 50/50. He can cancel his crhp into slide too,lk slide he stays front,hk slide he goes behind.

Thats the basic stuff imo, prolly forgot a couple things as well, all in all try not to jump, blow up traps on reaction with ex sa,abuse tk ex cs,abuse his bad wakeup game, learn how to block his mixups, put him in the corner and dont let him get out,he dies pretty easily and quickly there if you play it smart

Feel free. If you create all separate match-up threads, also create a new Index Thread to go along with it. I’ll merge this thread and the new one you create so you’ll be the OP of the thread instead. Just msg me when you’ve done all that work and I’ll take care of it!

Just to add. Using the st mk to limit his movement is key here. Make sure you are in range for it to connect as whiffing means you’ll eat the hadoken or even a jump in. Use it to counter hit his hadoken or jump attempt at your max range. Most Ryus will just try to jump on you after as they’ll get frustrated they can’t get close so that is when you anti air them. However some will start reading your kicks based on the range and will DP your St. MK so if you catch them doing this throw out a st. lk instead which sort of looks like a st mk but will make the DP whiff so you’ll get a full punish.

Is there any way to make a bunch of threads at once without being locked out from making new threads for a few minutes? That’s what happened to me last time I tried to do this.

Lmao. Whoever says ryu is so easy I want to see u post 1 video showing off how ez he is to play. Does he have some basic cancels? Yes and so does everyone else

So, about that Cammy-Birdie matchup being in her favor… Kazunoko dominates every single round and still loses. So frustrating.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fskCmIzQLxI

Who said it was in her favor? That’s probably her only bad match…and it’s really bad.

Kazunoko is losing again?

I wait for the replay and count the wakeup DP’s and jabs ge got punished for.
