Cammy General Discussion: To Bee or not to Bee

Cammy’s goggles are S tier. I want to play Cammy just because of that outfit, it’s so great.

I want it too but no Best Buy to pre-order from in my country.

This MCZ tournament really left me aching to see some high level Cammy stuff to try and have some faith. Karin, Nash, Chun and Birdie all had some pretty good exhibitions already.

Cammy really doesn’t have any gimmicks to run and is not 100% as solid on the ground as Chun, Birdie, Karin, or Necalli, imo.

Chun has better buttons, a better VT, fireball game that can create situations, etc.

Karin has high damage off the longer range and some of the better buttons in the game.

Necalli has st. RH … it is that good … but has some other stuff.

Birdie just has amazing buttons and damage, but weaknesses with being rushed down no one really knows how to fully exploit yet.

Cammy seems to sacrifice a bit of the ground game damage for better anti-air and some divekick options that no one really knows what to do with yet. Cammy is definitely good, but I can see you having to play more honest then those characters and needing to win a couple more exchanges because of the tools and combos. Be interesting how people flesh out her offensive options because this lame footsie oriented Cammy needs a bit more umph and think the trick lies in options people really haven’t figured out how to work with yet.

Of course has noone figured Cammy now out.

The people who played Cammy relaid for years on knockdowns, 50/50’s and divekicks.

Chun’s fireball is bad. Slow startup,medicore recovery. If you see her going into the pose you can jump-in for a free Combo.
Birdie can her chainthrow,Karin has her Special that goes over it,Nashs fireball is better, Cammy can jump-in or backfist, Rashid can S-Skill through it. It’s just a bad fireball that doesn’t do anything if the opponent pays attention to some points.
Her V-Trigger isn’t better, her buttons have less range for a frame faster startup and they’re all unsafer.

Don’t know about Karin. The Karins I played against couldn’t play a neutral and died really fast. They barely had a chance to get in or deal any damage outside of some chip damage.

The other thing with the MadCatz tournament was, that people played what they know.
How many of them played ever Cammy competetiv? I remember Valle played her in some older games, but thats it.

Chun’s fireball is still useful because she still has arguably the top 2 footsies in the game while still having access to one. Meaning she can always use it to protect her already strong buttons and move in safer. EX fireball plus dashing in with buttons is pretty much a free get in vs a lot of characters because of how slow it travels.

Her frame data on block is the same. She isn’t “unsafer”. She just does more block stun and has more active frames. I don’t think it really matters which ones has the better V Trigger, but you can say that arguably Chun’s V Trigger does more things for a longer period of time. Even does random stuff like let her b+HP absorb one hit projectiles.

I still think Cammy is good, but be ready for how good Chun will be also.

But…she had…godlike buttons right? I look at Birdie’s, Karin’s and Chun’s buttons and I cannot understand how Cammy is the one getting that rep.
I’m also not buying the whole “Cammy has to be played differently now”, I just think she’s bad for the time being and the only apparent way she’s viable is footsies. Lacks that umph as said before - or perhaps the decent follow ups are only yet to be found.

Rashid seems to be the in-your-face pressure/rushdown character this time around. Anyone here gave him a try? Damage seems stupid low but at least he can keep himself in. Perhaps Laura for the mixups?

I still want to see more matches, especially now.

I play CVS2 style and have realy good results.

I also don’t see it when people say Chun has better buttons,they’re equal at worst. Karin also never feeled like she is even close to Chun or Cammy and Birdies problem is his whole walkspeed in general.
I had the least problems dealing with Birdie, Ken gave me more trouble than Birdie tbh.

I play her so simple and barebone that it just works and nobody had a real way to deal with it. Hell Tyrant paniced against this and he is actually good.

Looking at e3 cammy,she lost a good chunk of damage,but i still think she is good. I don’t think chun totally outclasses cammy, i had some good matches with competent chuns in beta 3,felt pretty even on the buttons side imo.

I made it into the top 10 of the ranking on beta 3 and feel I was playing her effectively with just footsies. I also figured out how to beat some stuff later into the game I didn’t get to test in other matchups to probably make it better.

I feel it will be hard for her to have any truly terrible matchups with her toolset, but her issue is that she doesn’t really get big damage in the neutral compared to others. Other characters can kinda through out safer high damage stuff then she can so you need to win more encounters to come out ahead with similar quality normals.

I think her divekicks still have some unexplored potential as do a couple meaty setups so I definitely wouldn’t call her bad yet by any means when Ken is in the game. I’m just hoping whatever else is in her toolset actually makes her more fun to play, lol.

Does anyone have good videos on “footsies-oriented rushdown sfv cammy” people are talking about? Safe footsies has also been what worked the best for me but I feel like that was me being better than my opponents and not the character…

Alioune makes it pretty perfect.
I think he also replied that he was aware of the CC Punishs,but didn’t go for them for some reasons.

I play similar with some parts from SFIV. I can’t stop doing my jab/throw/frametrap mixup, but it works.
And I don’t know my rank in the end of Beta 3. I had something like 3850-ish points. I think thats top 200?

Yeah Alioune did almost everything perfect in that vid though I think he could have given up some damage for for pressure by choosing spiral arrow in some places over what he actually did. He did some interesting combo’s though I think he had better options there and is trying out the fancy stuff at the second over what is probably ‘most effective’. Also Necalli didn’t really seem to play as much of a footsie game as he is capable of (big difference in skill).

Need to use more cr. FP probably in my game as that seems like it could be a solid option against Necalli st. RH.

S…hk is also good to stuff normals like necallis s. Hk. You can DED os it and if it works do instant divekick into combo

Does v-skill combo after a crush counter s.rh? Now that it does 90 damage and links into s.hp without counterhit it would be a better followup combo than [s.mp, s.hp xx] or [f.hk, cr.mp xx] and build extra meter to boot.
