Can’t really do any combos with Strider’s “Vajra” assist. And I saw your comment about Doom too, I am recently working stuff with Tron/Doom and I gotta say I like it more than Tron/Taskmaster because Doom is an easy character to use (only his mobility is bit of an issue). Compare Task’s “Aim Master (Horizontal Shot)” to Doom’s “Plasma Beam,” Plasma Beam wins because it’s a beam assist and it’ll help cross up with Tron’s air.H since in UMvC3 it causes a “greater knockback.” DHC is also good, do a basic Foot Dive loop and then an air Plasma Beam to “Photon Array” and within the last hit or two DHC to Tron’s “Servbot Takeout.” Plus Doom builds good meter AND if you want to keep her alive you can always do a TAC and perform that loop with Doom. Oh forgot to mention, you can do cr.H and call Plasma Beam and immediately execute Servbot Takeout.
I actually use Tron/Vergil and it works well. Tron’s “Servbot Takeout” is a great setup for Spiral Sword Loop and it’ll connect, guaranteed. You can do cr.H with Tron, call “Rapid Slash” assist and immediately do a Heavy Beacon Beam and from there you can probably figure out. Do it dude!
I used to run that team, but stopped because it doesn’t give Tron the ground control she needs to make things happen. I can see it maybe working if you’re a more patient player that waits for opportunities since the team has very nice combos, tags and DHCs, but it definitely doesn’t give Tron the breathing room she needs to move in and do what she wants on her terms.
My interest in Tron has been rising over the past month, and the main thing stopping me from using her was that I couldn’t think of a team for her.
I decided to leave all of the thought at the door and just copy/paste Tron onto my main team. So I’ve been trying Tron/Doom/Dante, but I’ve been wondering if Dante/Doom is actually the better order for her instead. What do you guys think? In terms of assists, is Plasma beam good for her, or would she prefer a beam that doesn’t necessarily cause a knockdown?
I also have another question…on the off chance that I have to confirm off of Jam Session, is it possible to get Beacon Shot extensions off of Plasma Beam? Or is that a hitstun dependent thing?
I think Dante and Doom are both good assists. While I think either team order can work well, I think Tron/Dante/Doom might be the way to go. Plasma Beam is definitely a good beam assist, and I think one of the best overall. I do like projectile assists that don’t knock them down (i.e. Strange’s Bolts, Task Arrows, Arthur Daggers) since if they do connect on a grounded opponent, it is easier to confirm into Tron’s more damaging BNB. Doom’s Plasma Beam does come out fairly quick and can help her get it pretty well though.
From what I have tried before, I’m fairly certain a Beacon Bomb extension doesn’t work with Plasma Beam. At the most, you can get s.H into Servbot Surprise if they’re high enough or s.H > drill H > Lunchtime. The DHC options from the second aren’t the most damaging though.
Off of Jam Session (and this is me being completely not creative at all), I would opt for a shorter combo into Lunchtime and DHC into Devil Trigger (if you have Dante second ofc) and then hard tag into whoever is a favorable matchup for you against the current opponent (either Tron or Doom). Dante will recover any chip hits he takes as an assist super quickly and Jam Session will come out slightly faster and do more damage. It might not be a kill combo, but I think it’s an investment in your team that is pretty risk free and pays for itself over time.
I’m looking to play Tron, Strange, Dante.
Which strange assist will help tron the most?
Bolts is a ridiculous neutral assist because Tron has a nice box dash but how do I extend combos?
In the corner I did magic series launch sj.magic series > land >cr.h + bolts > gustaff fire > beacon bomb :l: or but I haven’t been able to recreate it and I’m not sure how much HSD it works after.
The team looks like it can do well but if you have any tech for Tron + Strange or Strange + Tron please share.
I’ve always wanted to mess around with that team due to awesome vertical assist and awesome horizontal assist. Strange Bolts would be the ideal assist to help her get up close, and Dante’s Jam Session would be your ideal combo extender for her to get an H Beacon Bomb. You could get one with Bolts assist as well, the timing being a little odd at times though. So far, I think the only notable tech with Tron + Strange is that if you get a low enough Beacon Bomb in the corner, you can raw tag Strange and go for Palm Loops. Strange definitely helps Tron more than she does for him.
Strange assist depends largely on the point matchup. If you’re up against Wolverine, for example, it’s almost always a better idea to use Eye of Agamotto instead of Bolts. Bolts is great for countercalls and birthdays, but you have to be prepared to airdash back and stick out a tank limb to protect Strange if you see things getting hairy; especially because of Tron’s huge hitbox, it’s very normal for you to call Strange and airdash forward, get airgrabbed from underneath and then have the opponent pick both you and Strange up for a birthday even though the assist has long finished.
For the times when you do use Bolts, I wouldn’t worry TOO much about extensions since that’s the assist you will be using to get in. The timing is real weird for stuff in the corner; Dante is MUCH more helpful here (along with much more consistent). If you do want to practice extensions with Bolts, I would recommend practicing by starting a combo with Jam Session assist, since that is a time when you will NEED to know what will and will not work with regards to HSD by using Bolts (since you won’t be able to use your Dante extensions).
I play both characters, just not on the same team anymore, but if I figure something out, I will let you know.
So I’ve finally hit the lab again just to make sure that I could actually pull off this one unblockable setup with Tron and Taskmaster on incoming. With an incoming opponent, I use the H Beacon Bomb > Servbot Surprise and DHC to Taskmaster’s counter hyper. With the Servbot pounding on them, I gotta get a L Sword Master to the unblockable with the sharp sting followup. And after the knockdown, call in Tron Gustaff assist and pick up the opponent with a quick Mighty Swing to H Arrow and get a combo from there.
Noticed I had to get the Sword Master hit near the beginning of when the Servbot starts attacking, otherwise Taskmaster would get pushed back from the pushblock. So I guess the timing is a little strict, but overall it’s somewhat useful?
Considering my new team potential I actually am kinda glad to hear this :3
I started picking up Tron for my love of hard hitting characters or grapplers (preferably in some form of armor or mech) and have since loved Tron all the more for being a mix of them.
I’ve been messing around with Tron/Frank/Taskmaster team having Tron mostly rushing down in the opponents face with Taskmaster assist support with ways to combo for Frank to give him a level 5 from nearly anywhere on screen when I DHC. Only thing I’ve been unsure of is what assist to give Tron that best supports both Frank and Taskmaster. Gustaf fire and Bonne Strike are the two I’ve been switching between regularly unsure what one is preferable.
Can anyone more experienced with Tron let me know how this team seems to you and advice on assist please?
I guess I know the next video for me to work on then. I’ll try to get the unblockable video up for timing purposes and such.
I have messed around with that team way back when I wanted to put Frank. The only problem I have with it is that you can’t really get a beacon bomb after an OTG and either Shopping Cart or Horizontal Arrows assists. Shopping Cart I know is possible if the combo isn’t quite so long, though you most likely won’t get into that situation all the time. Frank is nice to have so you can hit confirm to a combo, though since your main focus will be leveling up Frank, you probably won’t kill unless you have lots of meter or your opponent has low health. Though I guess if you play Frank well enough, you’ll manage to win somehow.
As for Tron assist, I feel like either Gustaff or Boulder would be best for Frnk and Taskmaster. With Gustaff you can preserve the ground bounce with Frank’s H Tools of Survival and use it later, and for Taskmaster, you can convert of a forward throw or back throw in the corner with a quick Spidey Swing (and calling assist) canceled to H arrow and the fire will pop them up. Bandit Boulder for Frank can help out with his roll mixups and it might be able to help both with a ranged game since I think the assist boulder goes further than the regular version?
Even while Frank and Tron have great synergy and you can get lvl4 or 5 Frank, I feel like you really need an amazing anchor w/great projectile assist. Taskmaster is not the greatest comeback character and his assist is alright. I like to try and protect him with Tron’s big body from certain projectiles so the arrows will come from behind her. Obviously it doesn’t work with beams like Plasma Beam, but maybe a well-timed s.H or Gustaff Fire can make up for that?
I was thinking of either Sentinel or Arthur over Taskmaster if need be though I am not entirely comfortable with zoning characters as much. Any other characters that work well with covering Tron whilst being fairly versatile as the last character?
Some that come to mind would be Doom and maybe Strange. Of course, there’s Churro who has Vergil on anchor and Ketsui with Morrigan in the back, and they seem to make it work out well. I just think having a good projectile in back can make things easier for Tron. Sentinel certainly isn’t a bad choice, and Arthur can be annoying in lvl3 X-Factor. Just experiment and see what you feel most comfortable with.
I play Doom on Anchor. It’s kind of an uphill battle depending on the team you’re fighting.
He’s super easy to run from.
I’m thinking about removing Frank from my team and running something along the lines of Tron/Doom/???
I’m thinking maybe Spencer? I don’t know, man. I thought about learning Strange, too. But I don’t know if I have the patience to learn FoF loops. >___<
Tron/Strange is great. Bolts is really great at protecting you from grounded anti-airs, so you can go ham with IAD :h: if you catch them blocking or ducking Bolts right next to you. It also helps you approach from far away, since it covers the ground for so long. You can plink dash from maybe 3/4 screen under the cover of the first Bolt and go for a mixup off the second Bolt. It’s also great for extensions and conversions off midscreen air throws.
It’s not hard at all to transition into Flames loops, and I have to tell you, it’s not actually that hard to do the loops. You just have to be mindful of Strange’s positioning relative to the opponent; this is what needs practice to get consistently. It’s easy to kill with Tron anyway even without Flames loops, so you don’t have to learn it right away, but the meter you save can be worth it if you have a nice meter-sink on your team. I personally use the Strange/Ammy THC as my meter-sink, but there are a lot of other characters you can use who can get more out of extra meter than most other characters (Vergil and Dormammu come to mind).
I think Strange Bolts can work wonders for Tron especially when it comes to sniping some zoners from afar to let her work her way in. I’m still considering learning Strange to switch off with Taskmaster on Anchor, and I figure he’ll give Vergil even more cheap mixups with that Bolts assist as well. Still gotta get used to those loops after beacon bombs.
Funnily enough Strange was my original anchor but someone told me “Taskmaster will do better he’s more versatile” yet I was actually happy with Strange at first. :V
Good mobility, zoning, can out fly and air stall to annoy Zero in the air, teleport/daggers pressure with Franks shopping cart is really good. Only issue I had with him was lack of ways to DHC for Frank to take pictures in the event Tron is snapped out or killed early on. Eye of agamoto is great for Tron to extend her OTG enough to combo into lunch time but Bolt’s is also one I liked for covering Tron well.
Arthur has been doing not too bad for me either, his daggers may not cover as much of Tron as Stranges bolts but they are sooo good for confirming combos that lead to DHC Frank level 5 combos. Plus the sheer terror his kings armor + x-factor level 3 when all else fails for Tron and Frank is amazing. In the event Tron dies Goddess Bracelet helps Frank a lot for getting some levels even from full screen.
