Bebop makes persuasive points. I can think of more than 2 players with a great shot to get on the 5 man 3S team outside of Yi, Vic, and Ken, and Vinny, you’re one of them. Why would you be ok with handicapping your chances?

No doubt. Also, obviously I don’t want guaranteed spots in ST either (a game I actually play), but with Remix there should definitely be no guaranteed spots.

I’m 100% confident Ken, Vic, and Yi would get on the team if every spot was up for grabs, and I don’t think anyone in this thread could beat any of them 1 on 1 for those spots, but keeping every spot open is the fairest way to do it imo. I understand both sides, and like I said, I think both ways will give the same results, but keeping every spot open avoids any unnecessary controversy (see:Gasps post). I’ll be there supporting either way.

It’s not that the 2 spots are only for Denjin PLAYERS, it is just that all 5 spots will be qualified for AT Denjin.

I even talked to Gootecks about this when we had our podcast, I said, I am willing to compromise and have the qualifers at AI since it is easier for everyone to meet up there. Ryan said, No, the qualifers should be at Denjin because the Regional is at Denjin and second, he is going to be driving to Denjin to qualify and so should everyone else. I agree with him completely, it’s not Denjin players vs AI players, its SF4 players period, please stop confusing that.

I also even suggested the idea that Ed gets a guaranteed spot since he has been the most consistent. But of course, had I said that, this would’ve turned into another 10 pages of arguments.

I don’t know why so many people are asking for slots to be given to be settled at AI. This regional is at… DENJIN ARCADE. I’m not trying to hate on AI at all, but if this was an AI regional, it wouldn’t make sense for Denjin to say, hey give us some slots to be settled at Denjin. What difference does it make? It’s SF4 and if the players really want to be on the team, they will go to the arcade holding the qualifer, what difference does it make if its at AI or Denjin.

If 3s is 100% skill based, then why not have everyone play for their spot? If it’s 100% skill based, Yi, Ken, and Vic will end up on the team anyway, so why not cover all the bases? There’s no rational argument against having EVERYONE play for their spot; everything else is just hearsay and opinion. What if Pyro comes back? What if Kuroda and a slew of reputable Japanese 3s players fly down and decide to claim residency in SoCal before the round robin? Fucking “WHAT IF”! You can’t auto-assign 3 people to a 5 man team, and say there are no politics involved, regardless of how good they are.

Things have changed a lot since SBO. Case in point: Amir. He’s not as good as he was before, so he has to play for his spot. So, if someone of that caliber can fall as far as not being able to auto-qualify for the 5v5, who’s to say that, conversely, some unknown dude hasn’t rose that far in skill? Since SBO, there haven’t really been any defining tournaments that have accurately divided SoCal’s 3s player rank. Probably because we haven’t had any of those… you know… what were those 3s tournaments called, that were held at FFA, and players earned points depending on how they did throughout the span of the tournament series?

Don’t get me wrong, I like the 3 guys already chosen for the 3s 5v5, and I think they’re incredible players, but they should have to play for their spot like everyone else.

p.s. I don’t really care who is on the team (I’m not even attending the qualifiers), but if it’s really an issue, you can always throw a poll onto this thread or the qualifiers thread, asking how people feel about the assigned 3.

Alright then. And i forget that you guys put out to have a trophy made. i was only thinking of the few AI people that were good that never went to Denjin before. we have so many players in socal it just makes it hard to pick from such a huge community of players and pick ONLY FIVE. I haven’t even heard any discussion on the Norcal team coming down here…

I wasn’t talking about me getting a spot, I was talking about anyone getting a spot. I just mentioned it as a game I play because the other games you want to give guaranteed spots in are games I was just talking about being fair in for other people. I don’t play 3S or CvS2 competitively, so I wouldn’t feel the spot limit personally, but I would in ST.

But yeah, if you’re wondering, I won and placed high in a bunch of tournaments when I lived in the Bay Area several years ago and over the last few years when I lived back east.
