Calgary Thread 2014

Karma is real. My lesson in karma is don’t consort with girls who have boyfriends. Nothing but shittiness.

edit: PS WOOT sold my car. Awwwww yeah.

SIGH.

Josh will u be willing g to give that Wii u for like 2bills?

but yea insofar as beggars go i don’t give my money to fucking nobody. i work hard to earn it. don’t FUCK AROUND. I remember the time outside tubbys guy walked up to us as we were smoking and asked for 2.50 in change. We all hesitated, Falken gave him the money just as I put my hand in my pocket and grabbed some change. falken gives 2.50… He says, “Oh I’ll take yours too!” I said “NOPE YOU ASKED FOR 2.50 AND THATS WHAT YOU GOT NOW FUCK OFF”

SMH, a lot of people I find are in consistent financial hardship make SHIT decisions often. I work with lower income people and its pathetic to see people unable to pay tabs. Then why are they at the motherfucking bar? Yea what are they gonna spend the money on? How do I know? it’s my money, I don’t give it to anybody, period, no questions asked, never give anything to beggars

We live in alberta FFS, get a job

I dunno how showing people respect turned into giving them money or not.

So people not recognizing that he’s michael buble is disprespectful? Maybe the idea that I should recognize michael buble when he’s disguised as an ordinary person can be considered disrespectful. It’s deceitful. Maybe i don’t give a fuck about michael buble. Maybe I like him less now. actually I totes do.

Like it or not, people think busking, people think giving money to people in dire financial straits. you’re the one who mentioned the open guitar case. People probably just thought he was annoying. Maybe people think busking is self serving and annoying and that this kind of cynicism michael buble displayed “I’m a talented artist, but people only recognize me when I’m on stage” is a waste of time.

how exactly do i show respect to someone busking? Nod at them? Tip my hat? Whip my dick out? Who cares. this is a debate now. No need to be sensitive.

I once gave a man a ticket for the train, he then proceeded to walk 10 feet away and asked another person, i called him a useless human being.

amin: les and dave are already eager for it, i’m just giving ricky an opporunity to respond… otherwise i think les wants to get it asap lol

You don’t have to throw money at people because they have an open guitar case. You’re still allowed to not act like they have leprosy. Like I said, just try talking to them. Your perspective will probably change.

Talk to them and disrupt their performance??? Talk about disrespectful

I mean for real, how do I “show respect” to someone who is busking or begging for money, WITHOUT giving them money?

Maybe my way of showing them respect is to acnkowledge the fact that like me, they can actually work hard for their money. I don’t give handouts for the same reason I don’t call people “buddy”, I act as though everyone is on the same level, I don’t hierarchicalize people in everyday situations.

edit: And I’m not gonna sit there and EXPLAIN to people my philosophy, many of my greatest problems I have dealt with ALL on my own, and they can do the same.

edit 2: basically, how do i show respect? By not being condescending.

edit 3: Mike mateyko, get barrett in on this. He is a goldmine for topics like these

By acting like they exist, and not being condescending, yes (which is exactly what people are doing when they actively act like others are invisible).

Your philosophy is the same as everyone else’s, so I don’t think it’d be hard to explain. The american dream exists to teach us that philosophy, so we already all know it.

meh i’m editing this out. I don’t want to get into an argument.

a bit busy today Josh, gimme until tomorrow morning (ie, the end of today) to respond re: wii U

Back of the line with you then.

Roger that, otherwise its going to senor no limitz.

re: buble on stephen ave.

the comments crack me up, ZOMG PEOPLE ARENT STOPZPOZING FOR DA MICHAEL BOOBLES?
Not everybody gives half a fart about some singer that you so happen to follow on facebook you silly fuckers.

Oh, and just to clarify why this is a silly statement… it’s like saying when you go out to a club looking to get laid, a girl you talk to couldn’t possibly be showing respect unless she’s making out with you.

Hate to say it, some people just don’t deserve my respect at all. There are a lot of shitty people out there. A lot of great people, but a lot of bad ones too.

The long string of poor decisions that will actually result in someone living on the street permanently in one of the best countries in the world are indicative of you sucking complete and total ass at life. How in the fuck do you exhaust all your own personal resources, every federal resource and the patience of all your friends and family?

If it was addiction or mental illness, treat that BEFORE they are homeless. In all likelihood, they probably refused the help they needed to keep their life on track. I’m not a guy who’s gonna say we need to axe all social programs, anything but. I believe we need to do more to help addicts, re-work the prison system to be more Scandanavian instead of American, and teach people more essential life skills in grade school. But once someone has well and truly hit bottom, we should just leave them there. The homeless don’t need a second chance - they’ve already missed it. And probably the 3rd, 4th, 5th chance too.

Just cuz you talk to a homeless guy doesn’t mean you are getting the real story on what happened to them to put them on the street. They live here, and couldn’t find a way to make it work? Are you serious? People who live in countries with no opportunities at all, like Brazil or three quarters of Africa, are far more deserving of my goodwill than these fuckups on the street here.

time for a segue

  2. give the money to a homeless person
  3. take a free flight to Vegas for Evo ($450 value)

it will happen at Tubbys if we get 6 more entrants.
so far we have Nav and Amine.

a quick reply before back to work

I’ve heard the name michael buble but I would never recognize him especially on a busy street, so if I walked right by it would be no skin off my back

andrew I don’t really get it, do you expect us to just… talk and listen to people who come up and ask for change? or interrupt a person busking and talk to them? what if they reek of alcohol, or are in a dangerous part of town, or we’re walking to meet someone for lunch, or are an introvert, or any number of other factors?

the reality is that there is a stereotype on homeless people for a reason. that’s not to say there aren’t some genuinely good people who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own, but I don’t know how you weed those people out, and frankly I don’t know that it’s my job to. I donate money to charities every year, helping the causes I want to help through a means that will actually do something positive, rather than (likely) give homeless people alcohol money
